Welcome to our Annual Production Sale!

Wow, what a year to be in the cattle business. With cattle prices at an all time high and inventory still shrinking, the future looks bright. We would like to say thank you to all of our customers for the confidence you have in our program. We greatly appreciate the support and loyalty you have placed in our herd. At Sandhill Red Angus we stay dedicated to producing the best genetics possible. We talk about consistency all the time here at Sandhill Red Angus. We believe that the biggest contribution to our consistency is our females. They must be long bodied, huge middled, and stay functional. For us, being functional means having a perfect udder, good feet, and breeding up on time every year while raising a big calf.

I would like to take this time to thank all of our friends, neighbors, and family that help us. We are very blessed to be surrounded by such a great community, and have the opportunity to serve our customers and the Red Angus breed.

Welcome from Shane Castle

It’s been a great pleasure to tour through and evaluate the program at Froid of Sandhill Red Angus and to right away notice and appreciate the rigors of which the herd must adhere to for their survival. For the betterment of breeding and genetics, having a seed-stock outfit put the cattle through the paces year round can only garner any ranchers respect. Having mother nature apply pressure undoubtedly will reveal who is earning their keep and who isn’t. With keeping their foot to the floor and no reason to let up on the cows, yet continue to jump the hurdles, we will find out who has what it takes to reach the finish line. Breeding cattle isn’t a difficult task for a cow. Producing a live calf, weaning a good healthy calf, and re-breeding in a limited time will let the wheat sort itself from the chaff. It is clearly evident that this is the case for Andrew and McKenzie! By incorporating the genetics which are clearing their hurdles, you will notice a number of calves sired by their own home raised calves. Simply plugging in the good cows as many times as you can is certainly a recipe for genetic progress and breed betterment, ultimately landing on the real goal of being profitable! Feel welcome to direct any questions you may have our way, we look forward to hearing from you!

SRJJ KICK-START 2189

RED T-K MISS RAMBO 47E

5041 is a de ant contender for the best son of Kick Start 2189. His dam is a beautiful cow that has one of the best udders in our whole herd. Don’t be fooled by his numbers, 5041 has as much growth and performance as any bull calf that will sell this year.

SELLING 1/2 POSSESSION AND 1/2 SEMEN INTEREST

It is rare for a sire to breed as true and constant as Kick Start 2189. is is his second calve crop and will be his last as he unexpectedly passed a er breeding his second year. His calf crop last year caught the eye and impressed everyone that seen them in person. 2189 was one of the best breeding bulls the breed has seen in many years.

5034’s dam has done a great job and just keeps cranking out high performance bulls. We have been debating on using one of her sons and this might be the one.

A spitting image of his sire. With extreme muscle shape and rib shape that is hard to duplicate, 5023 will produce calves that push the scale down.

The cattle industry lost a great man this past summer. Dunn O’Connor was known far and wide. His ability to strike up a conversation and become friends was simply amazing. Dunn loved his family deeply. He enjoyed visiting with friends and never met a stranger. I truly miss those calls early in the morning with the simple greeting, “O’Connor here”.

Ride Easy my Friend, you are missed by many!

Research Validates Red Angus as Most-Favored Female

Ranchers across the country have long recognized the value of Red Angus females as the foundation of a profitable cowherd. Now, independent research validates those years of cattle production experience with tangible data proving the Red Angus heifer’s worth.

Research Confirmation

Esther McCabe, et al., of Kansas State University, led a study that conrmed Red Angus are the most-favored female in the industry. McCabe and her team compiled ve years’ worth of pricing data from Superior Livestock Auction, comparing 13,804 lots of heifer calves totaling over 1.2 million head that sold in 116 video auctions.

The research team evaluated the effects of independent variables on the sale price of heifer calves that fell into six different breed composition groups: English, English crosses, English-Continental crosses, Black Angus-sired out of dams with no Brahman inuence, Red Angus-sired out of dams with no Brahman inuence, and Brahmaninuenced.

They deduced that Red Angus-sired heifer calves bring $5 to $9 more per hundredweight than all other breed types.

Rancher Trusted

While market research validates the price advantage of Red Angus heifers, ranchers have tested and trusted her worth on the range for years. Red Angus females are desirable as replacement heifers because they mature into productive mother cows that reward producers with extra dollars in their pockets on sale day.

Red Angus cows have gained ranchers’ trust as a complete package through fertility, eshing ability, good disposition, longevity and excellent overall production. They produce feeder calves that earn premiums in the yard and on the rail through docility, feed efciency, conversion and carcass merit.

Over the years, stockmen have voted with their checkbooks, purchasing heifers they know will bring protability to their ranching businesses – and Red Angus females are their most-favored choice. ■
