Rural Route 5 Farm 2nd Annual Online Production Sale

Page 1

We are excited to be presenting the Second Annual Production Sale for Rural Route 5 Farm!

We are in the midst of our transition to moving our herd to calve only in April – May and so far, this decision has been incredible, to say the least. While we missed having fall and winter calves born on the farm, we were able to spend more time in the bleachers watching our kid’s basketball games and use some of the ‘free time’ to check some items off the never-ending to-do list. It’s also been better on the cow herd and calf health as we aren’t managing young calves through arctic cold spells and we were able to pair off right to grass last spring.

The format for the sale is the same as last year, online only through DV Auction. Even though the sale is online we welcome your visit to the farm to sort through the bulls and heifers. Give us a call anytime if you are going to be in the area as we’d be happy to show you the cow herd too.

This is our last offering of fall and winter born bulls and we have dug deep in the replacement pens to offer bred and open heifers. We are really excited about some of these females and we would have been happy to have kept them, but we think they’ll do well in your front pasture as well. A couple of the bulls are out of a group of high-end females we purchased from Wilkinson Simmentals in ND, and their dams are some of the reason we purchased the cows. The bulls for next year’s sale were born last Spring; we are looking forward to offering 22 month old bulls next year.

At RR5 we focus on phenotypically correct cattle, with performance and strong maternal traits. We utilize ET and AI, but we also value natural service and in doing so have been able to keep a 60-day calving window. Docility is important to our operation, we want cattle our kids can be around, are workable through the chute and respectful of single strand of electrified poly wire to facilitate rotational grazing. We’ve emphasized “letting the cows be cows” in our management and we feel this results in stock that will be able to perform in any environment.

We value the relationships that being in the cattle business has brought to our lives; we have tremendous landlords that allow us to use their land for crops and pasture and appreciate those that have purchased cattle and become part of the RR5 family. Thank you for trusting us and bringing RR5 genetics to your herds.

We know investing in genetics is an important decision, please let us know if we can help in any way.

sale format & terms

The sale will be through DV Auction as a timed auction. The sale will open on March 12 and close on March 16, 2026 at 7pm Eastern / 6pm CST. All lots will close at the same time. If a bid is placed within 5 minutes of the closing time, the closing time for the event will be extended to 5 minutes after that bid. This continues until no bids are placed for 5 minutes. All bulls must be paid for within 7 days of the sale closing or prior to being released, whichever is first. Terms are cash or good check.

Docility

Docility is paramount to our operation, as such, we score the cattle frequently during our daily interactions and when working them. We have published a docility score with each animal. We use a scoring system from 1 – 6 with lower scores indicating calmer cattle. 1 -Docile, 2 – Restless, 3 – Nervous, 4 – Flighty, 5 – Aggressive, 6 – Very Aggressive. We cull any animal that we consider to be 3 or higher. Note:Docilitycanchangeastheanimalagesandin differinghandlingconditions.

Bull Guarantee

We appreciate your business and want you to be satisfied with your purchase. All bulls have been fertility tested by Dr. Bryce Slavik. We guarantee that all bulls are breeders for a 90-day breeding season following the initial turnout. Issues that are outside of our control will not be covered (i.e. poor nutrition) and a veterinarian’s opinion may be requested. A replacement of equal value or sale credit (minus salvage value) will be issued for the next sale. If an issue arises, please contact us as soon as possible.

Post Sale Boarding, Trucking & Delivery

Heifers will need to be removed as soon as possible. We offer a $150 discount on the purchase price if the bull is removed within 1 week of the sale offering. Bulls can be

left at RR5 and we will feed them for free until May 1, 2026. We strongly recommend insuring your investment after purchase. We offer free delivery within 250 miles and will help coordinate trucking and delivery outside of that area.

Management

Our cattle are all rotationally grazed using frequent moves and single strands of poly wire as subdivision fence during the growing season. In the fall we use cover crop mixtures to extend our grazing season. The calves are not creep fed. The bulls are overwintered in a large lot with barn access to allow for ample exercise and fed a high forage ration. We want our bulls to develop slowly to ensure they aren’t over conditioned, to maintain foot quality and have longevity when they go to their new pastures. The heifers were over wintered on cover crops with windbreaks and fed a high forage TMR. We are happy to discuss our management practices if you’d like further information.
