President Message
Dear fellow Hereford breeders and enthusiasts, I am honored to be your 2019 WHA President. Hereford cattle have been in my blood for my whole life growing up on Gari-Alan Farm. I have had the privilege of being on the Wisconsin Hereford Association board for two terms and was Vice President this past year. I am looking forward to serving both the board and the membership in 2019. We all have faced a long, grueling winter and I think it’s safe to say we’re ready for spring! The always anticipated sight of Hereford cows and calves scattering the green pastures is By: Nathan Reinke coming closer by the day and will certainly make for happier WHA President days for all of us. We have some great events to help promote the WHA and the Hereford breed this summer. Mark your calendars for the Wisconsin Farm Technology Days at Walter Grain Farms in Johnson Creek on July 23-25 and visit our booth in the Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association Beef tent. We welcome volunteers that would like to spend a day at the WHA booth. This is a great opportunity to promote our organization and breed. On August 24, the Northeast District will feature a field day hosted by Huth Polled Herefords in Oakfield. This will feature an opportunity to view great Hereford cattle, tour the ST Genetics facility and listen to a spokesman from the DNR on CRP lands being opened up for grazing. I look forward to meeting with fellow Hereford breeders, cattlemen and cattlewomen this year at various shows, sales and events. Let’s continue making Herefords the breed of choice in the state of Wisconsin!

MAKE YOUR CATTLE BETTER TODAY BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO MARKET THEM TOMORROW!
Field Day 2019 ST Genetics • W7652 U.S. Hwy. 151, Fond du Lac Huth Polled Herefords • W9096 County Rd. AS, Oakfield
For the past 18 years that I have been writing articles for the several different state association newsletters in my territory, I have always ended each with the above statement. By: John Meents, Marketing is such a huge part of the AHA Fieldman purebred seedstock business, and we all need to improve. Successful farms, ranches or any businesses puts marketing at a top priority. How much priority are you putting to marketing? The American Hereford Association is hosting, THE BRAND, MARKETING SUMMIT, June 3-4, 2019 in Kansas City, Missouri. Please consider taking one and a half days out of your year to learn and develop a better marketing plan for your seedstock operation. The Brand Marketing Summit will provide an opportunity to learn from fellow Hereford breeders and industry experts. Some of the highlights will include sharing the Herford story, building your brand, developing an effective print and social media strategy, and analyzing marketing success stories. Here are five reasons to attend: 1. Develop a better understanding of print and social media. The Brand will help you develop a better understanding of marketing platforms. 2. Gain insights into trends and marketing in the industry. A diverse speaker lineup of industry leaders will share knowledge on success. 3. Rejuvenate your current brand. The Brand will offer new and innovative ideas. 4. Make your mark at a low cost. The Brand will develop a strategy to tell your story at a low cost if you are big or small. 5. Network and idea share with other Hereford breeders. The Brand will give participants the opportunity to analyze marketing stories from other operations and businesses.
