Selling 60 Charolais & SimAngus Bulls | Wells, Kansas

We look forward to visiting with you at the ranch!
Welcome to the 24th Annual Schrader Ranch Bull sale

The welcome might seem like a broke record from year to year stating the same message with a lot of familiar words. We believe that mirrors our dedication to consistency. Trust and loyalty of our customers allows for the continuation of this annual event. As a result, our commitment to the process and progress doesn’t waiver. With diligence to measure each data point with accuracy and integrity, we strive to provide a practical and predictable product.
We are excited for cow calf production as current margins are at all time highs. With demand continuing to keep pace with increasing prices, coupled with the delay in domestic herd rebuilding, most experts suggest a multi-year period to come of good prices.
For those unfamiliar with our program, you will find bulls developed with enough calories to express performance differences and still maintain function and longevity. The goal is to deliver a fit, athletic breeding bull with minimal acclamation needed to a new environment.
Both the Charolais and Simmental programs are managed the same. Regardless the breed, it still all starts with the females. Quiet, easy calving cattle with functional udders and practical performance will always be key focuses for Schrader Ranch. We are very pleased with the depth of quality in offering of both breeds.
Please contact Laci, Weston, Josi or I with any questions. Cattle conversations are most rewarding for our family, and we look forward to assisting in any way possible.
Sincerely,
The Schrader Family

Simply put, this generational donor has earned her keep here at the ranch. Generating phenotypically elite livestock with longevity is her calling card, with last year’s $34,000 high-seller, Schrader’s Guardian 477M ET emerging as a popular AI sire for partners Thomas Ranch and Bradley Cattle as well full sister, Schrader’s Melania 497M ET, earning champion honors at many stops in 2025. In our minds, Lots 1-5 further elevate the consistent quality we’ve come to expect from this mating, building upon last year’s full brothers who averaged $13,000. Here’s real-world performance backed by proven brood-cow value.

The bulls were DNA-HD tested, increasing the accuracy of their EPD profiles. They also were tested for polled and color status. These results are reflected in the catalog. All bulls are PI-BVD Tested Negative.

Breeding good cattle isn’t complicated. Cattle feeders give us the ultimate report card. According to Jared Wareham, Top Dollar Angus, “No other option offers the greatest terminal crossbreeding value from the ranch through the feeder like a really good set of smokes or buckskins that are at least 50% Angus or Red Angus.”
Use a registered Charolais bull and genetic verification through CharAdvantage to earn more premiums.

Why?
n Market demand
n Predictability
n Increased weaning & yearling weights
n Easy calving
n More live calves
n Adaptability
n Value of Charolais-cross females

Customer Service. We help many of our customers merchandise their calf crop or at minimum, assist in price discovery. We encourage all customers to contact us with questions regarding any segment of their cow-calf operation. Nutrition, genetics, price discovery, etc. – nothing is off the able.

Investment Value. Profits and return on investment are never guaranteed in any agricultural business. However, with the quality that we strive for here at Schrader Ranch coupled with 92.5% of the purchase values fitting in the range from $3,750 to $9,250 in 2025, bulls can be procured with confidence as producers work towards profitability.

Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPDs, the difference between two sires’ EPDs represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPDs of +10 and -5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using EPDs is knowing in what units they are expressed. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPDs, sire A would be expected to sire 15 pounds more weaning weight than sire B. If calving ease was the trait, sire A would be expected to sire 15 percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if sire B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we would expect sire A to require 15 assists. A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPDs rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. For more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes, visit www.simmental.org. Listed below are the units in which ASA EPDs are expressed, you can find the full list online:
Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers.
Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight.
Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight.
Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight.
Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk.
Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight at 475 days.
Maternal Calving Ease (MCE): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters.
Yield Grade (YG): Carcass yield grade score at 475 days.
Marbling (MRB): Carcass marbling score at 475 days.
Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of carcass ribeye at 475 days.
Warner-Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds of force required to shear a ribeye steak.
All-Purpose Index (API): Dollars per cow exposed under an all-purpose-sire scenario. (See $ Indexes for more details.)
Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. (See TI for more details.)
