Welcome
Silver Dollar Simmentals would like to invite you to our 2nd Annual Production Sale. Crazy to think we’re rolling into our 2nd year in the seedstock business. We’d like to consider this our first production sale offering as this is the first calf crop from the breeding decisions we, ourselves, have made. With a strong emphasis on artificial insemination, it’s been fun to see the breeding decisions made last spring come to fruition. While we’re still in the trialand-error phase, we are and will continue to strive for progress over perfection and we think this lineup has done just that.
This year, we’re excited to offer up 25 yearling bulls, 15 advanced-age bulls, and 5 bred heifers. The 2-yearold bulls in the offering have passed their BSE and are ready to go to work, developed to ensure longevity in your herd. The bred heifers come straight from our replacement pen. Our goal since day one has been to tighten our calving window, thus we hold our bred heifers to a high standard. These heifers are for sale simply because they were bred a little later than we’d like, but still portray the maternal qualities we strive for throughout the herd. We tend to get attached to these girls so it will be hard to let them go. Nonetheless, we have no doubt they’ll be a great addition to anyone’s herd.
We invite you to study our offering and reach out to Jaedyn or Eric to talk through your herd’s needs and schedule a viewing. Visitors are always welcome!
We would like to thank past and future customers for your continued support and interest in Silver Dollar Simmentals. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our family and friends for the countless ways you have helped throughout the year. We are also grateful to Bata Brothers for the trust you’ve placed in us to carry forward the reputation you have built over decades. This offering would not be possible without each of you—thank you for being part of it! We are proud to be a part of this industry and are eager to continue learning and growing in the years ahead.

SDSR FREEDOM N503
There’s no better fit for lot 1 than this guy. He makes his way to the top pretty easy with his size and presence in the pen. We purchased his dam in the Rendezvous Farms herd dispersal sale in MB. She’s an easy keeper with a more moderate frame and great disposition. We’re excited for her future here. N501 ranked 3rd at weaning coming off the cow at 967 lbs and sits 1st with a 1427 lb yearling weight. He’s a mid-Jan calf with a 40.5 cm actual scrotal. Extra age and size will grant him the perfect prospect for those looking to turn out bulls in April or May.
Baldy alert! Another standout in the class that offers a little more age than the preceding. Dam was our pick at the Rendezvous dispersion that will add some frame to her calves. She ranks in the top 3% for milk, excited for a few females from her. N503 came off the cow weighing a solid 908 lbs with a yearling weight of 1275 lbs. Pounds, chrome, and character - everything that N503 will sire!

SDSR CALIBER N561
An RF Caliber x Riddler son that checks many of the boxes when looking for a herdbull prospect for your cows. This Riddler dam has the reputation of producing high birthweight calves, but all have come unassisted. N561 hit the ground running and hasn’t looked back, ranking 1st at weaning at 828 lbs to ratio 114 and 1st in his contemporary group at yearling at 1423 lbs to ratio 113. Don’t let his DNA results scare you away. Use him on a group of red cows to produce that larger framed, high performance red bull that everyone is looking for!

SDSR CALIBER N513
These 2 Caliber sons are two peas in a pod when it comes to type and kind. I mean look at their photos, can you tell them apart? N513 has EPD’s in the top 10% for WW and top 15% for YW and ADG. RF Caliber is consistent for adding growth and frame to his calves. We plan to continue to use him heavily in our AI program to keep bringing you this CALIBER of bulls.

SDSR MARVEL N533
A signature BBS genetic line-up here! N533 is wide-topped and belly deep. He found himself 2nd in the class at weaning with an actual weight of 828 lbs to ratio 113. Ranks in the top 2% for WW, YW, and ADG. Dam is a bull producer, with many sale toppers for Bata’s. Maternal granddam stayed in this herd for 14 years, never skipping a beat. Check out a bred heifer of hers as Lot 37. Great bulls are built on great cow families and this is one of them.
SDSR MARVEL N515 6 Lot
SDSR MARVEL N523
Another big-bellied, stout Marvel son. Growth EPD’s in the top 4% of the breed to place him in the 6th and 1st ranks for weaning and yearling weights in his contemporary group. Dam was another we purchased from the Bata dispersion with both her bull calves making the sale. Pedigree on her goes back to the 281M donor cow of Bata’s that had several sale topping bulls. She’s filling those shoes even at her young age.
SDSR FREEDOM N505
Lots 8 and 9 are twins from a dam we purchased from Rendezvous dispersal sale. Lot 8 is a baldy special. He came out just a few pounds lighter than his brother but in true second-child fashion, he stole all the milk and feed to surpass his brother in weight and size. Outweighing him by 21 lbs at weaning and 45 lbs at yearling. I’ll let you guys guess who the second-born Pesek is.

SDSR FREEDOM N504
This set of twins were sired by the same bull as lot 2, Rendezvous Freedom. Some may say they have a slight disadvantage staying on their dam all their life but I think it only highlights her performance. She weaned off 1,427 lbs. Impressive!
SDSR THUNDER STRUCK N540 10 Lot
We love our baldys here and we’re pretty proud of this one. Thunder Struck was a bull we purchased from Bata’s back in 2023. Little did we know that we’d be using him as a clean-up bull on the registered herd. Nevertheless, he’s proving his place here. N540 is wide-topped and big-butted. He comes from a first-calf Caliber heifer that commended $11,000 in the Bata dispersal sale as an open heifer - you can imagine how the ride home that day went. The EPD spread here is hard to come by.

SDSR THUNDER STRUCK N538
An all-black option out of the baldy Thunder Struck sire. Dam is out of the great Y116. If you’ve kept with me through all these footnotes, you’ll know the mark she left on this herd.
SDSR BLACKJACK N530 12 Lot
Rounding out the black yearling offering strong with a couple Blackjack sons. Blackjack has done well for us and Bata’s, siring many top sellers and top heifers. He’s now 7 years old and has yet to have an issue with his feet and legs. We turn him out on a

SDSR BLACKJACK N573
SDSR JUDSON N562
One of the first ever bulls to be offered out of our red herdsire TT Judson. Bata’s purchased Judson from TT Simmentals to be used as a cow or heifer bull option. Dam is a beautiful Brooks daughter out of the great B40 donor cow Bata’s used heavily. She has built the foundation of this red herd, producing 28 progeny, many including great high selling bulls to well-known cattle producers around the country. Remember what I said about great bulls being built upon great cow families? N562 ranked 4th at weaning and 2nd in his

SDSR BOOST N581
A dark cherry red calf out of our own herdsire MAF Boost. He’s an early April calf that still managed to cross the scale this fall at 740 lbs to adjust to an 836 lb WW to claim the #1 rank. His gains since weaning have solidified his growth potential and locked in his spot as the #2 yearling weight in the class. Dam is a ¾ blood purchased from Kline Simmentals when we were still running the commercial herd. She has proved herself to stay in the registered herd and we look forward to her calf each year.
SDSR RED SUMMIT
The sole Red Summit bull in the class. He’s big-boned and big-ribbed. Ranked 4th at weaning and 3rd and yearling. Hails in the top 15% for growth EPD’s. From top to bottom, we’re extremely proud of this offering and we’re excited for the future here at Silver Dollar.

SDSR ASSET N539
Red performance AI sires are hard to come by and we were itching to try something different. Erixon Asset semen was purchased with the goal to straighten out some calving and birth EPD’s on a few of our cows while still maintaining performance and phenotype. N539 has had that bullish appearance since a young age and we see herdbull potential written all over him.

Welcome
from Bata Brothers to our 29th Annual sale in Rugby! The Bata Brothers name has now been passed down to Mark’s three boys, Hudson, Leo, and Harris. Mark participates as their mentor, AI tech., and chore boy. It is a fun project for the kids and will help them out with their college funds. The mothers of the bulls in this sale started as a 4-H project. They were our open heifer picks from the R Plus dispersal sale in SK. While our numbers are few, the quality of our offering is high.
Outstanding genetics, a little chrome and just good cattle. We thank Silver Dollar Simmentals for having us as guests in their sale. Our ranches are just 5 miles apart, so be sure to come check out all the bulls prior to the sale.
The bulls were weaned in August and are being developed on a growing diet without getting them over conditioned. I am very pleased with how they have performed this year. All our bulls will be semen tested prior to the sale by Golden Valley Vet Clinic. Don’t miss the bred heifer we are offering as well.
Thank you for the confidence and trust in BBS over the years. Feel free to reach out any time with inquires or assistance. What a great time to be in the cattle business. See you at the sale!
DELIVERY: We would prefer bulls be picked up at the sale or deliver them soon afterward. If picked up at sale, there will be a $200 discount. If you cannot take your bulls right away, we will keep them until April 1st with a $400 charge at the sale to insure them. If you prefer to have your own insurance, that fee will be refunded.
Thank you!r

Here’s a baldy that comes at you with great growth and a balanced EPD profile. Something a little different on the sire side. Dimension has sired sale toppers for Wheatland’s north of the border and gives his calves a little extra look and soggy middle. One look at this bull’s dam and you know you have to own him. She’s an easy keeper and a great milker. Frame 6.8.

A bigger framed bull with a blaze face. These Caliber son’s have been really fun to watch develop. They really grow and are the commercial cattleman type. Wow! Arguably one of the best bulls I’ve raised. He would stand out in any bull pen across the state. One of the highest adj. weaning weights we have ever recorded at 925 lbs. and he just keeps growing. On paper he has 3 growth EPD’s in the top 1%, just 97 lbs. at birth and 1625 at yearling, he’s a powerhouse. His dam is exceptional, big bodied, great udder, and perfect feet. If I had more cows she would be in the donor pen really fast. Caliber semen is in high demand and really expensive, as his progeny have been topping every sale across Canada. Acquiring a son of him would be a pretty wise decision. This bull checks all the boxes. Great disposition. The type of bull this breed has been needing… He is 100K DNA tested and has genomic enhanced EPD’s. Frame score 7.5. Owned by Hudson Bata

I don’t think there’s a red bull out there that could be bred for maternal traits more than this bull. Sired by the immortal BOZ Redcoat, who’s semen we have been hoarding for years. Born in 1992 I don’t think there’s any semen left in the entire country at this point. His dam by Captain Morgan, who himself has proven as an exceptional female maker, raised this calf and his twin sister weaning 1241 lbs. off the cow in Aug. To say she milks is an understatement. UNDERSTANDING EPDS A GUIDE TO
EXPECTED PROGENY DIFFERENCES (EPD): EPD are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPD, the difference between two sires’ EPD represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPD of +10 and –5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). Key to using EPD is knowing what units they are expressed in. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPD, A would be expected to sire 15-pounds more weaning weight than B. If calving ease were the trait, A would be expected to sire 15-percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words, if B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we’d expect A to require 15 assists. A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPD rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPD and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org. Listed below are the units ASA EPD are expressed in:
ALL-PURPOSE INDEX (API):
Dollars per cow exposed under an all-purpose-sire scenario. (See below for more details.)
BACK FAT (BF):
Inches of backfat.
BIRTH WEIGHT (BW):
Pounds of birth weight.
CALVING EASE (CE):
Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers.
CARCASS WEIGHT (CW):
Pounds of carcassweight.
MATERNAL CALVING EASE (MCE):
Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters.
MILK (MLK):
Pounds of weaning weight due to milk.
MARBLING (MARB):
Marbling score.
MATERNAL WEANING WEIGHT (MWW):
Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth.
RIBEYE AREA (REA):
Square inches of ribeye.
WARNER-BRATZLER SHEAR FORCE (SF):
Pounds of force required to shear a steak.
STAYABILITY (STAY):
Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age.
TERMINAL INDEX (TI):
Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario. (See below for more details.)
WEANING WEIGHT (WW):
Pounds of weaning weight.
YEARLING WEIGHT (YW):
Pounds of yearling weight.
YIELD GRADE (YG):
Yield grade score.
$ INDEXES: Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That’s where $ indexes come in. Through well conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ indexes blend EPD and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on your bottom line. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry and dairy genetics over the last several decades was used to develop the following $ indexes:
All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield.
Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield. Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you’re keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPD, zero in on the unit difference between bulls. (As described above, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another. Or, put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000). A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPD and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org.
