Welcome to the Lechleiter Simmental 38th Annual Simmental and SimAngus Bull Sale. The sale will be on Friday, March 20, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Loma Livestock LLC, 1369 12 ½ Road, Loma, Colorado.
We are selling 109 bulls and 30 heifers this year. We started culling as soon as they were born and continued through weaning. The calf had to have strong birth vigor and get up and nurse unassisted. We only kept bulls that were trouble free from the beginning. Our herd covers thousands of acres of native range and they have to be athlectic, active and ready to work in our mountain country that ranges from 8,000 ft to over 10,000 feet. We evaluate them again at weaning and cull for low weaning weights and poor disposition. All bulls and heifers are PAP tested and will work at their recommended elevation.
We do not pamper our cattle. They must be able to perform in less than optimal range conditions. The sale bulls have been fed a low-energy, high-roughage diet for better soundness of feet and legs. They are not fat, but are growed up and fleshed to hold up for breeding season. They are ready to go to work.
Our cow herd consists of moderate framed cattle that are maternal, easy fleshing and have extremely good udders. The cow herd has to survive on high mountain pasture, dry fall pasture and winter corn stalks and maintain their body condition all the while raising a calf.
All of the bulls being offered for sale have been Fertility, Trich, Bangs, BVD/PI by Dr. Bob Bessert of Fruita, Colorado. The bulls have also been PAP tested for high altitude by Dr. Jeremy Ley of Canyon City, Colorado. We also want to thank Dr. Jeff Burnham of Clifton, CO for pregnancy testing and Dr. Emily Lashaway and Dr. Meghan Tumlinson of Montrose Vet Clinic for all of our herd health needs day or night.
The bulls in the sale have high EPD numbers for Calving Ease, Maternal Calving Ease, Stayability and the API and TI ($All Purpose Index$). If you are looking for genetics that offer excellent calving ease, performance, maternal traits with top gainability and carcass merit, we offer this and more.
We will feed the bulls until April 15th at the ranch free and after April 15tht there will be charge of $3.00 per day.
Guarantee: All bulls selling are guaranteed for fertility for the first breeding season. In the event a bull is deemed unsatisfactory the bull may be returned for a replacement bull of equal value or a credit in the amount of purchase price. Please contact me about any issues prior to culling the animal. A signed veterinary statement may be required.

API (All Purpose Index): Dollars per cow exposed under an all-purpose sire scenario.
BF (Back Fat): Inches of carcass back fat at 475 days.
BW (Birth Weight): Pounds of birth weight.
CE (Calving Ease): Percent unassisted births when used on heifers.
CW (Carcass Weight): Pounds of carcass weight at 475 days.
MCE (Maternal Calving Ease): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters.
MM (Milk): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk.
MB (Marbling): Carcass marbling score at 475 days.

All Bulls Tested BVD/PI Negative
Veterinarian Jeremy Ley PAP testing
P.A.P. or Pulmonary Artery Pressure – in an indication of a bull’s ability to thrive at high altitudes. The higher the PAP score the lower the altitude the bull should be maintained at. Bulls that develop brisket may or may not have a genetic problem, but may be the result of sickness, feed or stress. We recommend that bulls with a PAP of greater than 48 be used at lower altitudes.
Horned: An animal with a horn growth affixed to the skull that has or has not been removed.
Polled/Scurred: An animal with rudimentary horn growth that will not develop into a horn. The rudimentary horn growth may or may not become affixed to the skull at an older age.
Polled: An animal with absence of horn growth. (An animal can have scurs and still be genetically polled).
Double Black: An animal whose sire and dam are both black, which give the animal the possibility of being homozygous for the black trait but its not yet proven so.
Homozygous Black: An animal who carries two black genes and has been proven by mating or genetically tested to produce black calves with every mating.
