Welcome Cattlemen!

Our family would like to invite you to our 6th annual production sale, Sunday March 22nd, 2026 at 2PM at the ranch located north of Bagley, MN. We are extremely excited to showcase this years set of bulls and multiple groups of commercial females. The bulls, as always, are bred & developed to bring more dollars into the pocketbooks of our cutomers. Lots 1-25 are all purebred red angus, 26-29 are black-red carriers & 30-40 are purebred angus. There will be 4 different groups of commercial females selling this year. First will be a group of red angus heifers with calves at side, sired by Dahlke Outcome 016H. We will also have a group of angus heifers that were bred to calf mid april through mid may. The Holm family once again has a group of commercial red angus influenced bred females with 60% of them being AI bred to Outcome and Rancher. Lastly we will have a group of commercial open yearling heifers that were born and raised right here at the farm.

We are around the farm at all times and would welcome anybody to check out the sale cattle and the cowherd on sale day or prior. Along with selling our bulls along side the Nordlund family for many years, we sold our cattle private treaty and have always enjoyed talking cattle with other producers while discussing their own specific goals & needs. Great Grandpa Carl started raising Hereford influenced cattle on this farm back in the early 50s, however Arlan transitioned into selling seedstock bulls back in the late 70s . Our family has been solely focused on red angus/angus based cattle since 1992. The females behind these bulls have been selected for “Our kind”for many cow generations and the consistency and propotency in these cows is hard to beat.

Utilizing the top bulls we can find is extremely important to us. Some of such bulls have been sold here on this very sale over the past few years. As we have in the past, there is a continued push forward in our embryo transfer program. We routinely flush the top 5% of our cow herd while putting those resulting embryos in both purebred and commercial cows. At times this can add a significant cost, but in the end we feel it is money well spent as this helps propel our program forward in an expedited, more consistent manor. By using bulls like Rockefeller, Outcome & Rancher who are all A.I studs that we produced, we know the generations behind them and know that they work in our Northern Minnesota enviroment. This tends to take some of the guess work out of the equation and in return provides a better end product for us and our customers.

Phenotypically we like our cattle sound at the ground, correct in their overall structure, with above average growth and a disposition that allows sensible working ability. Fertility is still king & a top priority here. We feel a frame score of 5.5 to 6.0 with good fleshing ability helps aid the cows ability to breed up in a timely fashion. As far as foot quality, we prefer a hard black foot, with adequate heel depth and claws free of curl that point true. Please inspect the foot quality of these bulls on sale day as I’m confident you’ll be pleased with the overall quality. This trait has been pushed to forefront for us for many years and understand that these animals need to last for our customers. If you are unable to attend, dont hesitate to reach out to any of our sale staff and have them take a look for you.

Watching our genetics appear on other purebred breeder sale reports is one of the most rewarding things I think one can have in this buisness. We enjoy seeing the bulls produce quality groups of calves for both purebred and commercial breeders alike, along with seeing the females that we have sold in the past, go on to become donors and profitable cows for others. As I’m writing this letter, I just witnessed a cow we sold back in 2022 raise a $41,000 bull for a a great program in South Dakota. Our cow herd is truly the best group of employees I could have ever asked for and we will stay committed to producing good honest cattle that work for us.

If the footnotes get a little long winded, I apologize. I am pasionate about the quality of cows behind these bulls and I think you’ll find that I tend to talk about what the bull brings to the table from both the bull himself and the cows behind them. The EPD’s are there for evaluation to help you make your selection, however I rarely mention them or go into detail as you can read the numbers youself. Rather I feel there is more value in me talking about the things you cant see in the catalog, such as the dams, granddams and traits that are not currently associated with an EPD.

The cattle will be on display Sunday, March 22nd, and you will be able to bid in person, on the phone or online at DVAuction.com. We offer free delivery in Minnesota and surrounding states along with assisting in delivery to states further than that. No matter where you live, have confidence that we will find a way to get your bull to you. Feel free to reach out with any questions.

BW: 91 WW: 724 YW: 1384 ADG Ratio: 117

Dam’s Breeding Record: Bred to A.I service 4 out of 6 years Dam’s Age: 7 3 Star Calving Ease

The one that has stood out since the very beginning. Alpha 506N embodies what we are trying to produce here. Pounds in a package that excels in added thickness, depth of body without excessive frame in an easy fleshing package. On top of that, he stands down on a correct made, jet black hoof & is covered in a dark cherry red coat with good northern hair. Additionally he displays tremendous breed caracter with a good angus skull and muzzle, big testicles with added masculinity. Maternally he comes from the great Sandy cow family, Dahlke Ms Sandy 79G who combines SAV Raindance and Red Crowfoot Moonshine. 79G has a phenomenal phenotype, displaying a near perfect udder, is correct in her lines and angles, with proven fertility. We have retained all 3 daughters that she has produced so far as we look to inject her influence into our herd. Alpha 506N is a bull we plan to hitch our wagon to & use back in our program. Look for Alpha to replace the great Rockefeller 009H bull.

Rockefeller 009H has been a staple sire for us in terms of siring heavy muscled, good footed, dark red sons. 553N is no exception to those traits, adding the massive middle and added frame that comes from his 12 year old donor dam, Dahlke Ms Siera 250B. We retained a ful sister last year that stood at the very top of the replacment heifer pen. If you’re looking for a bull with some added octane yet will produce high value females as well, look him up. A maternal brother was our lot 1 bull in 2024 selling to Raile Red Angus in SD.

Play Time 513N leads off a big group of heavy muscled, wide based sons of the $65,000 Canadian phenom, Red U2Q Playboy 2197K. This guy has a little more stretch than some of his sire mates but yet doesn’t sacrifice any depth or thickness, pushing down the scale at every checkpoint. His dam, Ms Hilton 10F, produced the lot 2 bull last year selling to Yaunick Farms for $10,000. She also produced the great Dahlke Uffda 035H sire selling to Jacobson/Rivers Edge Red Angus back in 2021 for $8,500. The heifer safe option of the Playboy sire group and quite possibly the very best of all the heifer safe bulls in the sale. Jock 517N blends a 19 CED with a 78 pound birthweight, good head and smooth shoulders indicating his heifer project capabilities. Unlike a lot of heifer bulls, Jock will add extra muscle to their rear quarter along with added overall base width. The dam, 230K, is an own daughter of the beautiful Raindance sired 82G donor. Ms Hilton 230K is a young favorite around here, displaying superior udder quality, excellent docility, added fleshing ability from a consistent cow family. 230K joined our flush group this spring as we hope to add more females from this 4th generation donor. Expect easy calving progeny without giving up too much performance while producing world class females. Top of my list for purebred leaders looking for a female making heifer bull.

This feels repetitive but heres another thick made, heavy msucled son of Playboy 2197K. This sire group adds pounds without the added frame size, assuring the females will be reasonably sized, in an economical package. All these Playboy sired bulls are wide chested and good skulled, displaying great breed character. Playboy 525N may very well be the widest based bull in this sire group. Dam is a beautiful wedge shaped Foreman daughter.

Unique pedigree on this playboy son out of a LD Capitalist 316 granddaughter. Same tune, different chord, heavy muscled, wide based, good headed in a moderate frame package. Replacement females should be highly productive out of this guy. Use 507N as an outcross sire to inject some new blood into your cow herd.

Leading out this sire group, is Ranchin’ 552N, a grandson of the great Ms Hilton 10F cow. Pretty impressive for a pedigree with 2 sure fire calving ease bulls in Rancher 214K and Outcome 016H. Maternally he goes back to some great Rosie females including the great 230J and 214Z, the donor that produced our high selling bull in 2024 for $16,000 to Russ & Austin Klaphake. The Rosie cow family is known for great feet with great milking ability. These Rancher sired progeny will be the feeding type as they have the added length and frame to hang a large carcass along with excellent carcass qualities. Look for consistent calving ease from this big footed prospect that has the commercial cattlemen’s needs at the top of the list.

Another commercial oriented Rancher son out of a proven staple, Ms Birdie 232B, a 12 year old cow that has darn sure earned her keep around here. She produced our lot 1 bull back in 2016 with Dahlke Endeavor 9D. 592N does all the things right that may not be as flashy. Typically our customers are accustomed to seeing virtually all cows with the Dahlke Prefix on the maternal side of the pedigree. Well this guy throws a wrench into that as we purchased this pregnancy after we laid eyes on the great 142B cow a couple winters ago. 142B looks to be doing great things for Lucas Cutler in Britton, SD shown in his sale offering this year. She appears to be a great footed cow with tremendous teat and udder quality with a proud and elegant front 1/3. Lot 16’s sire needs no introduction as Pie Quarterback has been lighting up sale reports for years now as a proven calving ease sire from the great Pie Ruby 520 cow. 568N may be “Something Different” but I’d expect him to maintain the same qualities that our customers has come to expect. Twin to a heifer, this bull is going to provide a lot of maternal value to somebody. His dam has a look that most would use when describing their model angus female. High libido bull.

Lot 30

We start our angus division out with a pair of flush brothers from Ellingson Prolific and the great Abigale 108J donor. This duo set themselves apart with their added muscle, wide stance and overall softness. They display ideal foot and leg structure along with the flexibility that’s required to last as a breeding bull. We just calved out 5 full sisters, with all of them breeding A.I on their natural heat and calving unassisted while setting down a good snug udder. Based off of the donor dam and the 5 full sisters, I expect these two brothers to produce added payweight along with productive daughters.

Ranger 543N starts out a new sire group for us here in Ellingson Hi Range, the $160,000 high selling bull in 2022. We used Hi Range for his maternal capabilities while maintaining calving ease and longevity. 543N looks to be a sure fire heifer safe sire, displaying the type of head, shoulder and bone structure we look for when identifying calving ease prospects. We purchased his dam as the lead off female on the Flying W sale back in 2024 and she did a whale of a job on her first try. If docility is at the top of your list then be sure to look this guy up, as he’ll be sure to make some friends on sale day.

Ribeye

The purebred angus bull that even the red guys have been finding as they tour through the development pen saying, “Who’s that?” Top End 544N hits you hard with his striking phenotype and proud presence. We found his dam out at Spickler Ranch South as we were searching for a Tahoe daughter that met our standards for structual integrity and soundness at the ground as she was out of a Coalition dam that went back to the dam of S Chisum 6175. She has been a great addition to our program and look forward to seeing how her future progresses. Numerically this fella bends the curve from birth to weaning while maintaining solid scores in all other areas. Highly recommend this bull to anybody looking to move their

value forward.

Another black bull with a great disposition that is easy to be around. Great foot genes out of a cow that has shown great fertility thusfar in her early life. These Badger sons have made lots of friends around the country this year and you’ll see why when you lay eyes on this hog.

Two years ago we sold a group of commercial open yearling heifers on our sale and they were so well recieved we have decided to pull a small group out of of our replacment pen again. Most of these heifers are purebred but will sell without papers as commercial. They have been developed right alongside our own replacement heifers. There will be a group of 5 red hided heifers that will sell as 62A and a group of 5 black hided heifers that will sell as 62B. Some sires represented in this group include Bieber Energize, U2Q Shameless, Dahlke Reckon 208K & Dahlke Stellar 245K. These heifers have been on a full TMR ration since weaning with a north central breeder mineral. They were bangs vaccinated in early December and have had their first round of spring vaccinations. We will sell choice of lot 62A and 62B with winning bidder able to take one or both lots.
