Welcome to the C Diamond Simmental’s 20th Annual Production Sale!

Two New Nicholson Additions in 2025

Greetings from the Nicholsons @ C Diamond Simmentals!

My “letter from the ranch” has a bit of a different look this year because life, quite honestly, is a little different right now. On January 2nd Neil was diagnosed as having had a stroke. We spent 5 days in a Bismarck hospital and moved from there to Fargo for 16 days in a rehab hospital for intensive therapy. Neil is doing very well! He walks unassisted in the house and uses a walker for long “therapy” walks in the gym. He has some motor skill loss in his right hand and some peripheral eye-sight loss. With continued therapy, we are optimistic for a full recovery in time.

That being said, I don’t really feel qualified to comment too much about the bulls as today was my first look at them in nearly a month. Oh my, they have grown! Our philosophy hasn’t changed. We like functional, growthy cattle with good stature and structure all while maintaining above average carcass traits.

Our catalog will have a little less info available at this time as Ryan and Wesley have done a wonderful job of caring for the herd, but there are still only so many hours in the day! We have been so blessed with an outpouring of help from friends, neighbors, and family. Our hearts are overflowing with gratitude.

If you are a current customer, you know what to expect from the offering. We will get the balance of info collected and compiled around the time the videos are posted on DVAuction.com in early February. If you are unfamiliar with our operation, please contact us as soon as possible so we can get acquainted. Everyone is welcome to visit the ranch before sale day, February 25, and receive $250 off a bull purchase.

In closing, my message will not be Eat Beef, Raise Simmental or Pounds Pay, though they are all excellent mottos! But more importantly, I would like to encourage you to trust God, hold your loved ones close, celebrate the joyful moments that are found each and every day, and give thanks always!

Thank you so much for your support throughout the years! We are grateful. See you soon.

God Bless!

Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one’s youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. Psalm 127:3-5

ADG & Feed Ration

At the time of catalog printing, we have not concluded the feed test. A supplement sheet will be provided ASAP to include YW, ADG, scrotal measurement, frame score, and docility. The bulls have been conservatively fed to ensure longevity. We target a 3.5 lb gain, and consult PNC Feeds of Hebron, ND for feed analysis and ration consulting. Our TMR consists of homeraised non-gmo corn and sileage, alfalfa and grass hays. We do purchase a protein supplement that is fed at a 1.5-2lb rate.

Delivery:

Yearling bulls will be fed for free, semen tested and delivered after April 1st. Bulls will be delivered free of charge up to 250 miles from the ranch. We will work with the buyer to arrange the most economical delivery for distances beyond 250 miles. Any cattle selling to Canada will be delivered to the nearest border crossing facility on the ND side. Buyers will be responsible for any costs associated with testing/ clearance for export.

Retained Semen Interest, docility & volume discounts: See Page 4

Retained semen Interests

As always we reserve the right to collect semen on any bull sold in the sale (for in-herd use only). This would be done at the seller’s expense and the buyer’s convenience.

Please refer to the following levels of retained interest.

Level 1-Up to $19,999 we will retain 33% semen interest.

Level 2-$20,000 and above we will retain 25% semen interest.

Volume Discounts:

We will be offering the following discounts for volume bull buyers:

3 head – 3% off total purchases

4 head – 4% off total purchases

5 head or more – 5% off total purchases

When semen is collected on a CDI bull with the intent to market:

We would appreciate open dialogue concerning moving forward with marketing semen, promotion and cost sharing and reserve the right to opt out at our discretion. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call.

Docility Scores (Doc):

Please note the docility score for each animal. We use a scoring system from 1-6 with lower scores indicating calmer, gentler cattle: 1 – Docile; 2 – Restless; 3 – Nervous; 4 – Flighty; 5 – Aggressive; 6 – Very Aggressive. Most of the bulls will fall in the 1 or 2 category, with an occasional 3. Anything above a 3 is automatically culled from the bull pen. Please use this as a relative gauge for your operation. If you have a lot of help from your family or inexperienced workers while working with your cattle, we recommend buying 1 and 2 scoring cattle. 3’s are completely manageable but have at times shown to be more nervous. These scores are based on our daily interactions with the bull to date. Keep in mind, as an animal gets older, or with different handling, its attitude can change.

• We are leading off our 20th Annual Production sale with a stunning heifer bull that accentuates many exceptional traits. 440N has an attractive, angular front third, good depth of body and follows through with nice muscle expression.

• An evaluation of his ultrasound data shows he was #2 for IMF score with a ratio of 142, and did a 103 on REA at 15.12.

• He came off the cow at 770 adjusting to 787 and he hasn’t slowed down. On paper his data is very balanced, doing 10% for CE, BW, Marb, and API while still being above average on growth.

• 440N’s dam, CDI Ms Trustee 31K, is an up and coming donor for us. She has added beauty to each mating we have tried with her. She is soft made, has good depth of body like both her sire Trustee and her donor dam 73B, is easy keeping, has a picture perfect udder, good hoof quality, and is super attractive.

• His sire, LCDR Affirmed 212H has been our go-to heifer bull for the last 4 years and we are still excited with his progeny. His daughters are long bodied, hard working girls that wean off front end calves.

AUGUST

4, 1971-AUGUST 8, 2025

Our family, community, state and more were deeply saddened at the passing of Jason Schmidt. He was a devoted husband, father, and rancher, and also dedicated himself to the betterment of his community-locally and far beyond the borders of ND. He advocated for agriculture, cattle, and kids. He had strong opinions and loved to share them in great conversations where he also listened carefully to your point of view. Consensus on topics did not determine the depth of his friendship. We miss those conversations. Rest in peace, dear friend.
