Building blocks for the next generation

Traxinger Simmental will be hosting our Annual Bull Sale Wednesday February 11th 2026 at 1PM.

Another year with record high cattle prices to finish out 2025 and on into 2026. Most analysts believe this trend will continue for the next 2 years maybe longer. As a cattle person it’s time to secure the best bull power that’s availed to you. I’m talking pay weight on those feeder calves. We watched the fall runs of these calves going through sale barns in the Dakotas and very seldom did you see multiple groups of 6 weight calves. Granted a lot of cattlemen have backed up calving into late April / May which will account for some of that, but the fact remains the bulls that most studs are promoting are smaller framed than the upper Midwest are looking for, me included. That being said there are places that these 5.5 framed cattle and smaller cattle fit as you go into harsher environment, but not in the Dakotas. American Simmental Assn. had a quote years ago that went – PERFORMANCE PAYS and that’s been our goal since we started breeding Simmental back in the late 1960’s. My beliefs haven’t changed.

The offering this year is similar in numbers as other years with 50 to 60 bulls, reds and blacks, most are purebreds with a small number of ½ and ¾. Every bull has been evaluated through the ASA’s Calf Crop Genomics program with parent verification and EPD’s that are generated as if that bull has produced 10 or more prodigy on the ground. This 2026 group are big stout deep quartered power packed bunch. There are several we feel could satisfy the purebred guy. The Reds are impressive with most being dark red and big structured boys. The Blacks are a group of power bulls with some moderation throughout, but 95% are built like linebackers, tremendous top lines and a rear muscle structure order buys will notice.

The rumor is true, this will be our last all-out bull sale. The time has come after 57 years of AIing cows and hosting bull sales to cut way back.

The Traxinger Family, pictured, back, L to R Brittney, Brandon, Jerry and Michael, (front) Mike, Ryker, Rylee and Terri

Slowly the good Lord has been telling me Mike, you don’t have what it takes to continue on and I don’t. It’s truly a young man’s game with passion in their hearts so strong that they fight through all the adversity thrown at them. Michael and Brittney will still have cattle (not many) but we want to do it as a hobby and explore how to go forward in this capacity. We will still have 70 cows so watch for news as we go forward in a new capacity.

The other great news we need to share is the Quandt Family from Oakes ND have purchased our mature cow herd this past fall. It’s very rewarding for me to see these young people with so much excitement and enthuasim get these cows. If you’ve followed their program you know they are a family with great moral value and integrity, and things get done to perfection. The excitement they have expressed to me on getting these females has rekindled the fire in me as if I’m 25 again. Couldn’t be a more perfect fit. THANK YOU QUANDT FAMILY.

Throughout the years in this business we have been blessed with some of the best, most professional people to deal with. Some of these I need to mention.

Jeff Thomas has been a friend and someone who can buy my bulls all day long for me. Great eye for cattle, one of the best I know. Thank you Jeff.

Chisum Peterson, another man with huge integrity. Great individual who’s a master at his craft, auctioneering. Thank you for the years you have been with us and the success you have brought us.

Justin Dikoff, what can I say, well known in the cattle circle who always carries himself with the professionalism of his business. We have appreciated his ability to help at our sales in a rapid fire environment. Thanks for being part of our success.

There are others who without their help this wouldn’t be possible throughout the years, our clipper Joel Podell, picture lady Addison Rall, neighbor help Evan Emery, Colin Frey, Gabe, Jocelyn and Cooper Quandt and many more. Thank you.

And if you’re reading this, a really BIG THANK YOU goes to the lady who can think outside of the box when advertising is involved, Sheyna Strommen, what a creative lady. Thank you, Sheyna.

We encourage people to stop in and view this group of big stout bulls before sale day. (February 11th 1PM 2026). We’re sure there will be several that will catch your eye maybe we can answer any questions you have.

We want to thank all those who have been customers, friends, neighbors or a part of our lives in some form or another. The cattle are the connection but the friendships that we have made throughout the years have without a doubt been the GREATEST rewards of doing this.

The biggest THANK YOU goes to my wife Terri and kids Michael and Brittney for their patience when dealing with this stubborn German at times. I fully understand that patience wasn’t a blessing I was given. Without their help and support throughout the years this old man’s dream as a kid couldn’t have happened.

And in closing if you love Terri’s chili this will be the last chance at a bowl of it. So come be our guests for one last time and enjoy the day. We look forward to seeing you all.

Thank You God Bless Traxinger Family.

Thank you for letting us be a part of

Increase uniformity in your calf crop with a Traxinger bull!

We have been buying bulls from the Traxinger Family for approximately 13 years. Every year the calf quality continues to improve. The calves have the frame, length, and gainability, which are very important factors in a commercial herd like ours. We started calving on April 1, 2024 and sold our calves on January 4, 2025. We sold 49 steers and 44 were sold in one group weighing 845 lbs. each. We sold 54 heifers and 45 were sold in one group weighing 771 lbs. each. Uniformity is key in any operation, but it is especially important in ours. What was more gratifying than the market price for the calves was the three order buyers that came up to me after the calves sold and commented how nice the calves were. It is nice to be reassured that the calves we are selling and the genetics we are using are being acknowledged.

TRAXS MISS WHISKEY RIVER F862

Homo/Polled. A stud/standout red bull. These Vanderbilts have some pop to them and are real easy to like if big and stout fit you. N48 comes from another really strong cow family, KS Little John H054 with ratios of BW 101 WW 103 YW 104. A 100lb calf at birth isn’t an issue in my herd. I think if more cattlemen did take birth weights they would be surprised at how many weigh that, more than they think.
