We are pleased to have moved our sale to St. Onge Livestock in St. Onge, South Dakota and offer these yearling Simmental-Angus bulls. All bulls are sired by purebred Simmental bulls bred to Registered Angus Cows. Many are sired by WAGR Driver 706T, an outstanding Simmental bull in which we are fortunate enough to own semen rights. Semen from Driver cannot be purchased and is only available to owners. We believe our bulls will add pounds to your weaning weights and performance in the feedlot while producing outstanding replacement females.

of each bull over this period is included in this catalog. It has been our goal to keep the bulls in good condition while preserving good feet and legs in a pasture environment. We believe we have raised a group of bulls ready to turn out, cover lots of ground and breed cows. Several buyers at last yearâ€™s sale have reported that when our bulls came back from doing their summer breeding they were in good body condition and looked about like they did when turned out. We hope you will take the opportunity to try our bulls out and give us your reports next year.

The bulls were weaned on November 4, 2012 after spending the summer with their mothers in large rough pastures without creep feed. Weaning weights were recorded and the bulls were developed in one group in a 50 acre pasture where they had plenty of exercise. They were fed a combination of long stem grass/alfalfa mix hay and Purina Mills Accuration. After 77 days on feed all bulls were weighed again and daily gains were calculated. While succeeding with our plan to grow the bulls without making them overly fat, we were pleased that the entire group averaged 3.54 pounds of gain per day over this period. The function of crossbreeding is to maximize heterosis, or hybrid vigor, but it is important to utilize breeds whose genetics will compliment each other. SimAngusTM is the convenient way to capture heterosis and value. This crossbreeding system has the ideal balance of maternal and carcass traits. No two breeds offer more commitment to profitability. Fertility All bulls will be fertility tested prior to the sale and results will be provided to Buyers along with certifications from Dr. James Myers of Belle Fourche Veterinary Clinic.

Breeding Guarantee All bulls are guaranteed breeders from the date of sale until August 1, 2013. In the event any bull is unable to breed during that period seller will at seller’s option SALE TERMS AND DISCOUNTS and discretion either provide a replacement bull of Sales comparable quality if such is available or give the buyer All bulls meeting sale criteria (fertility and health) will credit at next year’s sale in an amount equaling the net be sold to the highest bidder in the traditional sale barn sales price less salvage value of the bull. If no arrangements are made prior to the sale bulls remaining after March 31, 2013 will accrue a feed and care charge of $7 per day until picked up by the Buyer. Always one of the favorites of those visiting the ranch as this Driver son is a deep-sided moderate framed eye-appealing bull with great performance. The highest gaining bull after weaning with a touch more frame than most of the offering. With his average daily gain of 5.39 pounds he is a cattle feeders dream. Big topped with loads of muscle.

Here may be the best profiling bull in the sale that catches my eye every time I see him. Strong topped and deep ribbed. He moves out really nice and is very sound on his feet and legs. One of the top gainers and an all-around package here.

Another nice Titleist son that is a complete package. I have noticed these Titleist calves seem to have a lot of vigor at birth and take care of themselves.

A Driver out of a really good old Alberda Piere cow that has raised a lot of good ones. She is getting old and arthritic so she didnâ€™t milk so well last summer to get this calf started right. Lots of good maternal traits here with a moderate size. Great disposition.

This bull catches the eye of lots of potential buyers and is hard to fault. Very sound and should add eye appeal and muscle to any herd.

Has a nice white strip on his face and really well put together. A big gainer that is hard to miss with a big top, deep side and lots of muscle.

Quick Reference to ASA EPDs and $ Indexes Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs): EPDs are the most accurate and effective tool available for comparing genetic levels. In using EPDs, the difference between two sire’s EPDs represents the unit difference expected in the performance of their progeny. For example, if sires A and B have EPDs of +10 and -5, a 15-unit difference would be expected in their progeny (moving from -5 to +10 yields 15 units). The key to using EPDs is knowing what units they are expressed in. For example, if the above case referred to weaning weight EPDs, A would be expected to sire 15-pounds more weaning weight than B. If calving ease were a trait, A would be expected to sire 15-percent more unassisted births in first-calf heifers; in other words if B sired 30 assists in a group of 100 heifers, we would expect A to require 15 assists. A percentileranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s EPDs rank him relative to other bulls in the breed. For percentile rankings or more detailed information about EPDs and $ indexes visit www.simmental.org. Listed below are the units ASA EPDs are expressed in: All-Purpose Index (API): Dollars per cow exposed under an all-purpose-sire scenario (See below for more details.) Back Fat (BF): Inches of back fat. Birth Weight (BW): Pounds of birth weight. Calving Ease (CE): Percent of unassisted births when used on heifers. Carcass Weight (CW): Pounds of carcass weight. Maternal Calving Ease (CME): Percent of unassisted births in first-calving daughters. Milk (MLK): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk. Marbling (MRB): Marbling score.

Maternal Weaning Weight (MWW): Pounds of weaning weight due to milk and growth. Ribeye Area (REA): Square inches of ribeye. Warner- Bratzler Shear Force (WBSF): Pounds of force required to shear a steak. Stayability (STAY): Percent of daughters remaining in the cowherd at 6 years of age. Terminal Index (TI): Dollars per cow exposed under a terminal-sire scenario (See below for more details.) Weaning Weight (WW): Pounds of weaning weight. Yearling Weight (YW): Pounds of yearling weight. Yield Grade (YG): Yield grade score.

$ Indexes: Though EPDs allow for the comparison of genetic levels for many economically important traits, they only provide a piece of the economic puzzle. That’s where $ indexes come in. Through well-conceived, rigorous mathematical computation, $ indexes blend EPDs and economics to estimate an animal’s overall impact on your bottom line. The same technology that led to the dramatic progress in swine, poultry and dairy genetics over the last several decades was used to develop the following $ indexes: All-Purpose Index (API): Evaluates sires for use on the entire cow herd (bred to both Angus first-calf heifers and mature cows) with the portion of their daughters required to maintain herd size retained and the remaining heifers and steers put on feed and sold grade and yield. Terminal Index (TI): Evaluates sire for use on mature Angus cows with all offspring put on feed and sold grade and yield. Using API and TI: First, determine which index to use; if you are keeping replacements use API, if not, TI. Then, just as with EPDs, zero in on the unit difference between bulls (as described above, index units are in dollars per cow exposed.) The difference can be used to determine how much a bull is worth compared to another, or put another way, how much you can pay for one bull compared to another. For example, when buying an all-purpose-type sire, you can quickly figure a bull scoring +100 for API is worth an extra $6,000 over a +50 bull if both are exposed to 30 cows over 4 years ($50 diff. x 30 hd. x 4 yr. = $6,000.) A percentile-ranking chart is required to determine where a bull’s index value ranks him relative to other bulls in the breed.
