GENERAL INFORMATION: SALE LOCATION: The sale will be held at the indoor arena (Yellow Barn) at the Spanish Fork Fairgrounds, 475 S Main Street, Spanish Fork, UT Inspection of Sale Cattle: All Cattle will be available for viewing all day Friday March 8th through the conclusion of the sale at the sale facilities. Cattle may also be viewed prior to Wednesday March 6th at the respective ranches at Castle Dale, UT and Spanish Fork, UT. Please contact the individual sellers to make arrangements to view the cattle prior to their arrival at the sale facility.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS: The terms of the sale are cash or check unless arrangements have been made between buyer and seller prior to the beginning of the sale. The animal becomes the property, responsibility and risk of the buyer as soon as declared sold by the auctioneer. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Announcements from the Auction Block will take precedence over any other printed matter in the sale catalog or supplement sheets. BIDDING: Each Animal will sell to the highest bidder. Any disputes will be settled by the auctioneer whose decision is final. BREEDING GUARANTEES: All bulls in this sale are guaranteed “breeders” the day of the sale. In the event a buyer finds a bull to be a “non-breeder”, he must immediately take the following actions: 1. Notify the seller within six (6) months of the purchase. 2. Return the bull to the seller at the buyer’s expense in healthy and good condition. 3. At that time, the seller may give the buyer a bull of like quality as a replacement, or give the seller credit toward the purchase of another bull at a later date. 4. Seller has the right to prove the bull a “breeder” before giving credit or returning the bull. 5. Guarantees do not apply to injuries (i.e. broken legs, stifles, reproductive injuries, etc) which occur during breeding. 6. All guarantees are void in cases where the bull is fit for show, is subject to hormonal treatments, or has been subject to abuse in any way. High Altitude or Brisket Disease: High Altitudes Disease (HAD) is a genetic disorder in cattle which causes death in some animals at high altitudes (5000 feet & above) & while not all cattle are prone to HAD, it is a disorder found in all breeds of cattle. A Pulmonary Arterial Pressure (PAP) test is useful in detecting cattle which are prone to HAD, however it is important to remember that poor (high) testing cattle may never show signs of HAD & likewise some good (low) testing cattle may show signs of HAD. There are many causes (other than genetic) such as pneumonia, worms, abnormal births, poisonous plants, possibly over or under conditioning (& more causes which have not been discovered) which can initiate HAD in cattle Bulls in this sale which have been developed at the appropriate elevation of 5000 feet or above have been PAP tested. A supplement sheet will be available on sale day with the PAP scores and elevation of the tests. If HAD is concern in your operation, this chart can be used to determine the PAP score which is acceptable to your elevation. As so many factors (other than genetic) can affect PAP scores & HAD, we can not guarantee that these bulls (good or poor testing) will not get HAD. We are confident that with proper use of the PAP scores & use of the above chart, the incidence of HAD can be dramatically reduced and/or eliminated. Glossary of Terms IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER NOT TO COMPARE EPDS FROM BREED TO BREED! EPDs (Expected Progeny Difference): EPDs are a statistical measurement of a bull’s ability to transmit certain traits to his offspring based on his dams, sires and own production & performance record, as well as his own progeny’s record when data is submitted. EPDs allow for the evaluation of cattle of the same breed from ranch to ranch with out concern for differences in environment, nutrition and management. The following are descriptions of the EPDs used in this catalog. CED: Calving Ease Direct is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in firstcalf heifers. BW: Expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit BW to his progeny compared to that of other sires. The lower the EPD, the lighter the BW on average. WW: Expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit growth to weaning in his progeny compared to that of other sires. The higher the EPD, the heavier the WW on average. YW: Expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit growth to yearling in his progeny compared to that of other sires. Milk: A predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk & mothering ability transmitted to his daughters. %IMF: A predictor of a sire’s progeny for % intramuscular fat (marbling) in the rib eye compared to other sires. RE: A predictor of the difference in square inches of ultrasound rib eye area of a sire’s progeny compared to the progeny of other sires. FAT: A predictor of the difference in ultrasound fat thickness at the 12th rib of a sire’s progeny compared to the progeny of other sires. CW: (Sim) A predictor of the difference in carcass wt. of a sire’s progeny compared to the progeny of other sires. YG: (Sim) A predictor of the difference in Yield Grade of a sire’s progeny compare to the progeny of other sires. Like actual Yield Grade itself, the lower the number the better. $W: (Angus) Weaned Calf Dollar Value EPD quantifies four primary economic impact areas (BW, WW, Maternal Milk, & Mature Cow Size) and combined into an economic value expressed in dollars per head. $F: (Angus) Feedlot Value, an index value expressed in $/hd & is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for post weaning merit compared to progeny of other sires. $G: (Angus) Grid Value, an index expressed in $/hd & is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for carcass grid merit. $B: (Angus) Beef Value, a simultaneous multi-trait genetic selection for feedlot & carcass merit, & predicts the average $/hd difference in the progeny’s post weaning performance & carcass value compared to progeny of other sires.

Evaluation Excellent & Reliable score
Excellent for bulls over 12 mo. Fairly reliable for younger cattle but retesting is suggested Acceptable score for animals older than 6 months that have been at high elevations for an 45extended period. These 48 animals should be considered at some risk. Testing altitude should be considered. Reliable for all bulls older than 12 mo. Recommended that <41 younger cattle test under 41 depending on altitude of test. These scores based on cattle 12 mo. of age & older tested at 6500 feet. Scores may be adjusted +2 pts for every 1000’ above 6500’ & -2 pts for every 1000’ under 6500’ 3640

PRICING A BULL We have all been asked to speculate what the prices of bulls are going to be from year to year. With the price of cattle in historic ranges, and the declaration of some economists that the “traditional” cattle cycle is dead, it may be hard to determine just what a bull is worth. Several people over the years have come up with formulas that could blow up any cowboy’s smart phone when trying to calculate the worth of a bull. However, even with all these new fangled formulas, there are some tried and true calculations that have stood the test of time. One of the formulas that has stood the test of time with history proving the theory shows that the price of three 800 lb steers is equal to the base price of one bull. We all know the expensive costs of developing a bull properly and the costs of making sure he is ready to breed cows. And we know that a quality bull will yield you more dollars than an average or lesser quality bull when you market your calves, but we feel the above formula (Cost of 800 lb steer X 3 = Base cost of a bull) is a good place to start in determining the base price of a bull.
