Lot Numbers: The animals are tagged with their catalog lot numbers. Health: All cattle sell with health certificates, ready for immediate shipping. Bulls have been vaccinated and PI tested, and have passed a breeding-soundness evaluation. Delivery: Free in-state delivery of registered animals, or we will give a $25-per-lot refund on animals picked up sale day. Guarantee: All bulls selling for $2,000 and above are guaranteed against breeding injury for the first breeding season, defined as the 90-day period following the first turnout of the bull. An injured bull will be replaced by its breeder with another bull if available, or a credit in the amount paid, less salvage value of the injured bull, will be given toward another of the breederâ€™s bulls in next yearâ€™s sale. We have a good offering of yearling to two-year-old bulls to sell on March 21st, and we hope you will come early, look them over, and join us for lunch. We have just hit all time highs in the fat and feeder cattle markets and things look great for the cowcalf producer. If you are planning on breeding some extra heifers, we have a great selection of calvingease bulls to pick from. With six different breeding programs represented in the sale, we offer a wide range of genetics to pick from. At the same time, we all have the same goal of providing you with cattle that will work in your operation. We are selecting for strong maternal traits, fertility, moderate cow size, calving ease, above average growth, good carcass values, and—last but not least—good disposition. Pathfinder Program: A Search for Superior Cows The Pathfinder Angus program was started in 1978 in an effort to identify superior cows in the breed based on their records of performance from Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR). To become a Pathfinder (indicated by a # in front of her name in the pedigree — shown in this catalog as a # behind her name in the pedigree), a cow must calve her first time near the herd’s average for first calving and yearly after that. She must wean at least three calves with an average weaning ratio of 105 or above. To be a Pathfinder sire, a bull must have five or more Pathfinder daughters.

In an effort to supply some fresh genetics to our customers, Ficken and Rosemayne Angus have experimented with Simmental genetics. We hope you will find them to be as powerful and valuable as we have. Our bull selection decisions were based on maternal excellence and calving ease genetics. The actual birth weights were the same as our Angus sired calves and management requirements were no different. These bulls are not registered so we are showing the sireâ€™s and damâ€™s EPDs from both breeds. We believe you can use these bulls with reasonable confidence on your cows. They should produce excellent replacement females with a little more growth punch and steer calves that press down hard on the scales. Circumstances limited our offering this year to one bull but we will have several Sim-Angus bulls for next yearâ€™s sale. However, this yearâ€™s bull is definitely worth a serious look on sale day.
