Jeff & Tami Keller, Owners of Niobrara Red Angus, were born and raised in Niobrara, Nebraska, both graduating from Niobrara High. Together, they are blessed to have three incredible sons: Sam, Jack & Ben. Tami (Leader) Keller’s family made their living as Angus breeders in the area, originating with her grandfather, John Leader. Aspiring to have a herd of their own, they chose Red Angus cattle and enjoy the opportunity Niobrara Red Angus gives their sons to be more involved in agriculture.
Jacob Bathke, Ranch Manager, resides and oversees Niobrara Red Angus with his wife, Madison, and their very recent new addition, Steely Joe Bathke. He manages and oversees the daily operations of the ranch and is responsible for the wellbeing of the cattle. Jacob graduated college with a degree in agronomy, but he couldn’t leave his passion for cattle behind. Jacob is grateful for the opportunity to work with the Keller Family and their high-quality cattle. Even though most of his days are spent with cattle, he says what he loves most about his job are the people. He would also like to acknowledge and thank his family and friends who help him throughout the year.
Meg Penrod, Office Manager, is a lifelong resident of Lincoln, Nebraska. Meg received her BFA from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and spent 12 years working in interior design. In 2019, Meg and her husband, Tanner, adopted their oldest daughter, Sloan, and two years later, they had a welcomed surprise when their second daughter Scarlett came along! Meg has spent the last several years at home raising their girls, but her love for working with people and passion for animals drew her to work for Niobrara Red Angus.
Garrett Knebel, Marketing Manager, resides in Bozeman, MT. There he owns and operates Harmony Hill, a progressive Red Angus operation focused on seedstock for the commercial cow-calf operator. With a degree from Oklahoma State University, Garrett’s main responsibilities for Niobrara Red Angus include marketing, consulting, breeding, and seedstock selection. In his spare time, he travels the country visiting with fellow Red Angus breeders and judging livestock shows.
Doug Leader, Logisitcs Manager, grew up on the family farm in Niobrara, farming and raising Angus cattle alongside his father and grandfather. He has a 16-year-old son named Zach who attends high school in Omaha. Doug and Zach split their time between there and the farm in Niobrara. Currently, Doug is a partner of a haying company with his nephew Sam, and father, Alan. Doug wears a variety of hats for Niobrara Red Angus, including farming, making hay, accounting, and taking the lead on delivering NIO’s cattle across the North American continent.
Friends,
Whether you’ve purchased from Niobrara Red Angus in the past, or you’ve been waiting for the right moment to test the waters, the bulls we will offer on February 25th are, without a question, the most impressive group we’ve ever produced. The quality, powerful kind, and robust data set behind these bulls has moved our program up to a whole different level.
Our 9th Annual Bull Sale will be held on Wednesday, February 25th, 2026, again, at the ranch in Niobrara, Nebraska. If you can make time to get away from the ranch prior to sale day, we’d love to have you sort through the bulls we’re selling. Heck, even just to witness the uniformity and consistent quality from top to bottom. They truly are a sight to be seen.
The cow herd at Niobrara Red Angus continues to impress us. With the breed’s most impressive females having been assembled in Niobrara, Nebraska, our young cows just get stronger and more proven as time passes. Sorted heavily for the real-world phenotypic traits that keep a cow ‘in herd’, we have the utmost confidence in the cowherd behind our bulls.
Uniformity in your weaned calves is paramount. Our bull calf crop has been culled through extensively, and only the best remains. Massive, muscular, dense, and rotund, the bulls have set new records each time data has been collected. Feeder cattle buyers, growers, packers, and the consumer are all looking for the most consistent and uniform product. Feel confident in knowing, this set of bulls shows a “cookie-cutter” kind from beginning to end, and if used in volume, will have a noticeable impact on your calves’ quality and consistency.
Thanks to you, Niobrara’s red angus are working in a wide array of environments across the country. We have been fortunate, delivering bulls all over North America; from Canada to Mexico, Montana to Florida. Your feedback has been positive and encouraging. We continue to stay committed to utilizing different lines of genetics, ultimately to breed the kind of Red Angus cattle that are the most problem-free, lowmaintenance, and profitable for the commercial cow-calf producer.
We wholeheartedly appreciate your consideration of the bulls we have on offer. Feel free to contact us at any time. We love talking about Red Angus cattle.
In 2025, we visited Buenos Aires, Argentina, touring Angus herds across the Pampas region. Pictured here, La Rural in Palermo, is an incredible event the entire country of Argentina celebrates. Thank you to the breeders that accommodated our ranch visits!

STRA LAURA 0135
STRA LAURA 703
To be direct, STRA Ranch Hand 2010 has confirmed himself to be the most significant and impactful Red Angus bull I have witnessed in my history of being immersed within the Red Angus breed.
His phenotypic and genotypic combination is rare. But, the true effectiveness and legacy of a bull is not demonstrated until his daughters have calved and entered production. Today, I sincerely believe, Ranch Hand has become the Red Angus herd sire of my lifetime.
With 188 calves reported, and 140 of those with genomic data, accuracies continue to increase, and Ranch Hand’s genetic combination of traits proves to be remarkable.
The breed had been ripe for a source of genetics that would increase the traits associated with the Herdbuilder Index. Expressed as dollars per head born, Herdbuilder is calculated based on the scenario that bulls are mated to heifers and cows, replacement heifers are then retained, and all remaining progeny are marketed at weaning. As you can see, based on this definition, the Herdbuilder Index is arguably the most important tool available for the cow/calf operator. The database and genomics told us that Ranch Hand “should” be among the best in the Red Angus breed. The performance, and real-world output we’ve experienced from Ranch Hand has solidified… he is the answer.
The foot quality (toe shape and depth of heal) of Ranch Hand’s progeny is among the best in the breed. Ranch Hand injects his bold, powerful, dense body type and muscularity into each of his calves, in an efficient, moderate size.
His daughters are… exceptional. In my opinion, they embody what beef cattle industry experts describe as an “ideal” beef cow. The udder quality, structure, and teat size of his daughters are consistently stunning. Bold, dense, attractive and structurally correct, they leave very little to be desired. Studying them in volume is truly a sight to behold.
Semen has been distinctly unavailable and restricted only for use among the partnership. Since the current ownership structure formed, the owners have offered only 8 units of Ranch Hand at public auction, donated as lots to the Western States Red Angus Association in their Bet on Red sale. The first year, in 2024, 5 units were offered. The semen commanded $2,600.00 per unit selling to JLMorris Farm of Douglas, Georgia. The breed was abuzz with news of its unprecedented price per unit. The following year, in 2025, 3 units were made available for the donation auction. By the time the auction ended, the winning bidder paid $5,710.00 per unit. Most recently, 2 units happened to cross the auction block at the 2026 Embryos on Snow, at $6,000.00 a unit.
Semen will permanently remain unavailable for purchase.

In our opinion, this may be the most consequential herd sire prospect ever raised at Niobrara Red Angus. He checks nearly every box and is phenotypically impeccable. He is sired by the proven, breed icon Ranch Hand, and a natural born son of one of the most credible Red Angus cows in the NIO herd. I truly believe, the sky is the limit with Backcountry. This is a bull that needs to see widespread use to help drive red hided cattle into an even greater market share.
Backcountry is the 5th natural calf of NIO Jolene 9263. She has calved in January every year, conceiving to her AI sire each time. With an MPPA of 105, the fertility and maternal power of 9263 is real, and after weaning Backcountry this past fall, she is now at the forefront of our Embryo Transfer program.
The lead-off, highlight lot in our 2025 Red, Redefined Production Sale was a full sister to NIO Backcountry 5058, NIO Jolene 4073. With all 3 Indexes in the Top 5% of the Red Angus breed, in combination with stunning phenotype, she commanded a $50,000 valuation, selling half embryo interest to one of the most progressive breeders in the business, John Carter of Veto Valley Farms in Fayetteville, Tennessee.
Predictability, security, and reliability are what we all desire. I have never been more confident in a young herd sire prospect.

A dominant figure in the yard this winter has been “Throwin’ Elbows”. No matter what direction you turn when evaluating the 2026 offering, he’s there, demanding your attention.
Regarded as the standout by most everyone that has toured, I believe he will be one of the most phenotypically convincing Red Angus bulls to sell in 2026. Dark red in color, with a stout brow and robust muscularity, his powerful, masculine appearance casts a large shadow.
In 2021, Jake Bathke set forth one nonnegotiable stipulation. NIO Cherok 0095 would not be a candidate for the Red, Redefined sale; come hell or high water. After two calves, she entered our Embryo Transfer program in 2023. 0095 contributed 6 bulls to our 2026 offering, and their yearling performance is distinguishable.
“Throwin’ Elbows” embodies the progress we strive for every day at Niobrara Red Angus.

The genetic decisions made today can shape the next decade. The impact that one bull can have on the profitability of your herd can be constructive or catastrophic. Right now, it’s more important than ever to gather up bulls that elevate the quality of your cow herd; the profit generating asset of your business. We believe these three full brothers are rising to the occasion.
It won’t take you long to identify “Rise Above” on sale day. The darkest shade of red, 5194 continues to drive his way to the top of his contemporaries. Muscular, powerful, and robust, he is one of the most structurally correct, athletic bulls in the offering, pounding the dirt with a ground-shaking substance of foot and bone.
With 12 traits in the Top 18% of the breed, “Rise Above” offers one of the most genetically appealing profiles in the entire offering. His young dam was a must-have that I found at Klompien’s while touring herds in preparation for the Bet on Red. Despite being snagged for the NILE first, I knew she was a female that had to be incorporated into the Niobrara herd.
At the front of the offering, we believe Rise Above will be one of the best Red Angus bulls marketed anywhere this year.

Without question, I believe this herd bull prospect will prove to be one of the best bulls that the Niobrara program has ever raised. He checks all the boxes we prioritize and is the product of two of the most proven Red Angus parents in the industry. He’s quick to find in the yard. He is a brute, overwhelming in terms of his density, shape, masculinity, and stoutness. His skeleton is correct, and his foot quality is top tier.

Drifter needs no introduction. One of the most consequential bulls in the breed, he accomplished that from an incredibly restricted use, having died way too soon. The dam of Spearfish, Ms. Dynamo 35B, has been a phenotypic icon in the NIO herd for years and has produced some of the most valuable bulls and females ever raised here. Start-Up and The Factor have proven themselves as highly valuable sires for their owners at DK Red Angus and Beitia Land & Livestock. Additionally, there’s a John Wick daughter in NIO’s herd, a full sibling to Opportunity, that is one of our most exciting prospective donors. You’ve got to see her and her bull calf this year.
All this… and each Index in the Top 20% of the Red Angus breed. Time will tell. But I have the utmost confidence in this bull.

A fan favorite for good reason, NIO Lineman 5215 brings the game-day power; wide, muscular, with explosive shape and ready to dominate. If you’ve been breeding Red Angus cattle for a while, you’ve found there’s a sire that will inject an unmistakable form of punchy, square shape from the backside of their shoulder to their tail, more consistently than any other Red Angus sire I’ve seen. That bull is U2 Dominion. Ironically enough, Lineman is his maternal brother. Both sons of the formidable, $110,000 Hidee Ho 459D, I believe Spearfish is likely to do the same; it’s just that unique.
With a very balanced set of data and more calving ease identified than expected, Lineman appears to be a bull that is very versatile.

According to Darrell Peel at Oklahoma State University, the 2025 calf crop was projected to be the smallest total U.S. calf crop since 1941. In January of 2026, the USDA and HHS unveiled a redesigned, “inverted” food pyramid for the 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines, shifting focus toward protein. Based on those two facts alone, you don’t need a doctorate in economics to forecast what’s ahead for the beef industry.
Widowmaker has catapulted Niobrara Red Angus into some “Saint Anthony-like” performance, holding true to the Top 1% performance consistently witnessed in the Trojan sire group. Weaned at 1,008 pounds on August 29th, 2025, Widowmaker is at the front of the pack accompanied by a few of his brothers.
When 5190 hit the picture pen, I was completely captivated just watching his dark, dominant presence and attractive design circle the straw. In 2025, we offered two of his full brothers from the immortal Kuruba De 2085Z matron, Comanche and Spectrum. With peak demand by many great cattlemen and women, they landed at a premium, selling to two of the most progressive commercial cattlemen that source bulls from us. Darker hided than his two brothers, I feel this is one of the most significant bulls in the 2026 offering.

The darkest shade of red and explosive in his shape, Perspective is one of the stoutest, most muscular bulls in the sale combined with an elevated look and presence.

Hit the dinger! The semen catalog kind, here. A true sale highlight in 2026 is this dark red Ranch Hand son from one of the most proven cows in the Niobrara herd, NIO Boysin Berry 8048. Lord Almighty, where do I even begin! Evaluating 5067 phenotypically, he is one of the most correct, fault free options among a head-spinning set of bulls. He’s smooth, yet muscular and square; very masculine and tight about his head. His presence is undeniable. Elite in his genomic profile, he also ranks Top 8% in his BW column with a -4.8, making him one of the most heifer approved options in the book. Most importantly, his dam has been knocking it out of the park. Calving her entire productive life in January to her AI sire, last year, she gave us NIO Decisive 4054, commanding $38,000 and landing at Rohrich’s Cutting Edge Ranch. I’m excited to see where this bull ends up on sale day.
#2 Highest bull in the entire database for the ProS index! 2025 Born Bulls – 208
WOW! We’re keeping you on your toes with this one! I could talk about this bull all day. Truth Seeker is one of the most exciting bulls ever produced at NIO. Of all the Red Angus bulls born in 2025, Truth Seeker ranks as the 2nd Highest bull in entire database for ProS the index; the all-purpose economic selection index that balances all maternal and terminal traits. To boot, this bull is dark, dark red, ripped up with muscle, incredibly masculine and travels the yard with a proud presence. Perhaps the most convincing aspect of this Ranch Hand son is his mother. This is 3112’s first calf, and PUH-LEASE… let us take you out to see her in the pasture. She is stunning, and her udder is featured as one of the photos in this catalog! There’s not enough room on this page to list everything I love about this bull.

The history
of our cows
In the simplest way, our goal is to produce the most problem free, profitable, productive Red Angus seedstock available today to promote longevity and elevate our customer’s product to the top of the marketplace.
After decades of the most thoughtful and strategic genetic acquisitions, initially setting the paper aside and sorting from the phenotypic strengths that promote in-herd longevity, Niobrara Red Angus has most recently been able to incorporate the breed’s most genotypically progressive options to generate the most well-rounded product the breed has today.
From the beginning, NIO spent considerable due diligence identifying and selecting for the most phenotypically relevant Red Angus females that were available anywhere. Relying heavily on Garrett Knebel’s experience and eye, we chose to isolate and breed from a much stouter, more robust Red Angus female than was commonplace in the breed in the United States. In doing so, that meant intentionally setting the paper or EPDs aside, to solidify the type and kind of female we wanted at the foundation of our business.
Certainly unpopular, we paid little attention to their ranking within the Red Angus Association of America’s database. Most of our cow herd originated from genetics found in Canada. With these Canadian cattle having no history of production or relation to other cattle in the U.S. database, we had to start from square one. And in the RAAA database, that means starting at the bottom.
Overtime and with patience from Jeff & Tami Keller, we’ve been able to watch how these cows and their progeny have begun to “climb the hypothetical ladder” in the database and are now much closer to reading comparatively accurate to the breed. Specifically, our base of cows has improved substantially in their Herd-Builder Index, having time and production now in their favor.
With an extremely solid, tight base of Red Angus cows now working for Niobrara Red Angus, the results we’re seeing are incredibly rewarding. We know our bulls are being produced from some of the most bulletproof, maternal, long-lasting cows in the breed. Now, we’ve begun incorporating some of the freshest genotypic, paternal leaders, with considerable mindfulness to the “bottom-side” of the bulls we identify to use. That said, we still believe it’s valuable to utilize new, breed-leading genetics from North of the border. However, it’s imperative our customers understand these cattle are starting from square one on paper. You’d be made to believe these cattle are some cow-killing, nanny-goat performing critters with the marbling of a Belgian Blue. But the comparative, association data is not accurate. Our progeny from these foreign, imported cattle have no history of production in the U.S. database, and as stated, they’re forced to start from scratch.
That explained, we know we’re on the right track. Our Red Angus females have an undeniable advantage, conformationally, of strength, density, stoutness and foot quality. Inevitably, our customers are seeing that in the offspring sired by Niobrara Red Angus bulls.
EPDs are only as useful as the accuracies behind them. Accuracies are increased by progeny recorded. That’s important to understand. Equally as important a tool in the toolbox, is the actual data gathered. Birth weight, weaning weight, yearling weight, IMF and REA scans, calving intervals, etc. These are all critically important to evaluate and compare. Yet, true genetic progress requires breeding beyond the numbers most convenient for analyzing and visually selecting for or culling based on for real-world production traits. Feet, udders, fertility, and conformation; we believe that should be at the foundation of cattle selection.
In closing, we’re proud of our cattle. With the many herd visits Garrett Knebel is able perform on an annual basis, we aren’t “barn blind”. We put our cattle up against any, regardless of breed. That said, the cattle may never be Top 1% for a certain trait on paper. But if the cattle prove to have longevity and sire calves that have demand, we know we are headed in the right direction.

The first calf crop of Steel Panther’s is on offer in the 2026 Bull Sale, and one thing’s for sure; we should have bred more to him! We start the sire group with one of the most striking and impressive bulls ever offered at a NIO sale. Popular is so neat and striking up front. He transitions back into a stout, bold body type, is tremendously loose and level in his design, and struts the yard like he owns the place. With all 3 Indexes in the top 30% of the breed, here is a true combination bull that is thrilling to study. The sky’s the limit here.
WOW! This Steel Panther son has jumped through all the hoops and is an all-around rancher’s bull that will definitely add value. With the highest weaning weight ratio in the offering, you can expect him to sire one of the heaviest calf crops you’ve ever had. With an MPPA of 110 on a beautiful Western daughter, the maternal is there to keep back every daughter too. One of the best bulls in the sale.
Conversion and Power! Big topped and big hipped, this dark red beef bull will inject the shape into a set of feeder calves. It’s no secret, the breed is ripe for some fresh genetics that can generate the kind that meet the fundamentals yet do it with the extras. I believe NIO Hits Different 5213 may be the most likely candidate of the 2026 offering to fit that description. A son of H/H EEG Stealth 9122, Hits Different displays the enormous rib cage and elevated look we’ve come to expect from this sire. You layer him on top of Ms. Dynamo 35B, and we’re playing with two of the most consistently progressive Red Angus phenotypes in the breed. Ties high, smooth built, huge middled, and proud; Hits Different is just that; different.

With several traits in the Top 20% of the breed, here’s a power bull that exhibits an explosive amount of muscle and shape throughout, yet still shaped modestly enough up front to aid in a hands-free calving experience. Build Back Better! With nearly 600 progeny recorded in RedsPro to date, the impact and legacy that John Wick has instilled on the Niobrara Red Angus herd continues to amaze us. His daughters continue to lead NIO forward on an annual basis. Last year is a prime example, where a John Wick daughter raised the $155,000 NIO Improver 4099. With only two offered this year, the direct sons and daughters, anymore, are rare. Lot 53 is a dark red, muscular, masculine beef bull with the unmistakable look and presence only a John Wick exhibits. His marbling scan was among the best in the sale this year, ratioing 126. The dam of Lot 53 is a Dyna 89Y, sired by Dominion, and that’s where the extra pop of punch is coming from. Simply put, keep every daughter while increasing carcass quality.

You’re going to need another truck! The performance and gain of the Cherok 0095 donor is palpable! She’s produced the biggest, stoutest bulls of the 2026 Sale. It goes without saying, pounds are paying the bills and that’s not going to change any time soon. Bold, powerful, muscular and dark red, Lot 59 checks a lot of boxes, backed by one of the best cows in the NIO herd. You can see the look of his $210,000 father throughout his head and neck; a strong brow, masculine, and proud. Power, punch, and truly heritable performance are on offer here in NIO Mojave 5104.
This right here is a prime example of why I began with such skepticism about the RAAA database when NIO was importing Canadian red angus cows to start from. Lot 60 has performed among the very best bulls in the Niobrara offering. Yet, the database would tell you to expect the complete opposite. Bottom line, the data wasn’t there to crucify these cattle from the start like they did, and it was not accurate. They should have started around breed average to let the cattle then tell their own story.
Stepping off my soap box now… Haha This is a special bull. He has jumped through all the hoops and has an immensely powerful set of donor quality cows behind him. I’d keep every daughter. This bull does it all and makes your next calf crop better.
One of the youngest bulls in the sale, but UFFDA; does he have the look! The darkest shade of red, this Mojave son brings the elite-level look and phenotype that created the buzz around his father back in 2023. Structurally flawless, big ribbed and muscular, he just continues to get better with time. Backed by the Beauty 113Z cow family, in 2025, Lot 61’s maternal brother by Reputation sold for $16,000 to a progressive outfit in Oklahoma. In a short period of time, 1207 has made a big impact!
