BLACKWHITEFACEPAIRS

Welcome to our first production sale. For 5 generations our family has been situated in the western Flint Hills of Kansas. We have been raising registered Herefords since 1976 and have been selling private treaty since that time.

We have been friends with the Gustafson family for most of those 50 years and it just seemed like the right thing to do to go together and kick this thing off. Our cattle have always been raised with the commercial producer in mind since that is where we come from. We expect them to perform for us and we think they will do the same for you. For the past several years, we have been feeding out all of the steers and females that don’t make replacements. They are marketed through a local locker plant that we have owned an interest in since 1991 and also through Greater Omaha’s Hereford 1881 program. It has been a pleasure to meet so many great people through our association with Herefords over the years and we hope to meet many more through this sale venue.

This will be a learning process for us and we look forward to it. Once again, thank you for your interest in our cattle and we hope to serve your needs now and in the future. Feel free to call us any time to talk about the cattle and our operation.

We are proud and excited to invite you to our first production sale at the ranch held in conjunction with our good friends the Granzow’s. Nestled in the beautiful Kansas Flint Hills, my Grandfather, Gus Gustafson, began raising registered Herefords on this ranch in 1917 and we have continued to add proven genetics to the herd since 1971.

We have always let our cattle speak for themselves with the understanding they have to perform without pampering in these abrupt hills. We have utilized performance records from the beginning and have consistently been recognized as a Golden Breeder by AHA. We ultrasound every spring and have recently introduced Genomic testing in the herd. In addition, over the years we have participated in numerous AHA feed out programs and have been recognized for top performing steers in the feedlot. We believe the bulls offered in the sale are among our very best and represent our efforts to create uniformity, consistency and predictability in our breeding program. The bulls have been selected for performance traits, thickness, eye pigment, moderate birth weights, carcass data, and maternal strength. The herd is fully managed by our family consisting of myself, wife, daughter and granddaughter, therefore, a breeding priority is a gentle disposition. Our cattle have performed well in the show ring, however, even better in the feedlots and local markets.

Please come look over the cattle at the ranch and join us for lunch. If you are unable to attend in person, we look forward to you joining online.

Just getting a good start with 3248 and his progeny, but so far they look to be right for us and right for the times. The calves come easily and grow fast. Plenty of depth and thickness. We can’t wait to see how these females work as cows. Your chance to buy some of the first progeny as fall calves and a replacement heifer. Owned with Gustafson Herefords.

GRANZOWFALLYEARLINGBULLS(LOTS14-22)

Our fall yearling bulls are not creep-fed as calves. They are weaned in late April or early May and then summered on grass until fall with some supplement in the late summer/early fall. Brought in usually in October, they are wintered on grass hay and a 14.5% supplement. They will be BSE tested before the sale and their vaccinations will be up to date. They should be ready to go. We are learning about scurs and have noted them in the footnotes. They have all been DNA Genomically Tested. A supplement sheet will be available online before the sale with updates on weights, BSE and other appropriate information.

Another really nice made 206 son. The 984 cow is a real long-sided, longhipped cow that is out of our HH Advance 0132X X Sensation 028 son that we bought with Marshall Ernst at Stuber’s. He should work well on heifers with his birthweight and EPD lining up well.

YW 1032 459 is out of a bull we raised, 206K (215Z X 8020), that we lost way too soon. On the bottom side, he is out of a very productive cow line here that includes 3027 and Harland. His maternal granddam is the 672 cow that also has a fall-calving 3-year-old in the sale. Productivity, predictability and function all represented here.

The 2-year-old bulls are weaned in late October or early November and weaning weights are taken then, not early. They are wintered on grass hay and never more than 10 pounds of a 14.5% supplement. Summered on grass with supplement in late fall. Wintered on grass hay and the same 14.5% supplement. They will be BSE tested before the sale and their vaccinations will be up to date and ready to go. He is very long-sided and thick as well. His dam, 824, has left a mark here and 8138 sure won’t hurt any of that. A maternal sister is in our replacement pen, so you would also have a crack at her on sale day.

These Stardance calves have been very popular around the country and for good reason. Here is one that is long, thick and has a great look to him. His 10-yearold Anchor dam has been a top producer here. Don’t miss this opportunity.

GRANZOWFALLPAIRS(LOTS44-47)

These fall calving pairs are also from the heart of the herd. We feel confident that they will go from here and produce the kind of cattle that the industry needs. Good producing females all the way back and from our top sires. Remember that our calves are not creep-fed and these pairs have been running out just like all the others. They will come on strong when grazing season hits.

159 is another really good 9164 daughter that is out of a very high-producing cow out of CO L1 Domino 106Y. And below that, pretty quick, is our old JA L1 Domino 9217 that worked very well here and in many other herds. That results in a very nice maternal pedigree. She follows that up with her CL 1 Domino 3248 1ET heifer calf that could go on and be a top producer in many herds. Her registration number is 44715635. Sells safe in calf to CL 1 Domino 3248L 1ET.

We really hate to see any of these 9164 daughters leave. They are the foundation of our herd, but sometimes you have to let a few of the really good ones get out there. 259 is a good one. She has two full sisters in the herd and we used a full brother as well. So here you go. Good uddered, extremely feminine, long-sided and productive. As an added benefit, there is a really nice CL 1 Domino 3248 1ET bull calf at her side that will work anywhere. This 3248 on 9164 mating looks to be really good. His registration number is 44715646. Sells safe in calf to CL 1 Domino 3248L 1ET.

356 is a really nice first calf heifer out of CO L1 Domino 693D 1ET, a bull that did a great job for us. She goes back to Sensation and 0132X on the bottom side to fortify her maternal side as well. She is milking well and has a nice black brockle face heifer at side that will surely have high value as a commercial female these days. She sells safe in calf to CL 1 Domino 9164G 1ET.

COMMERCIALPAIRS(LOTS4-50)

The 2-year-olds will sell together as a package of one Lot. All the 2-year-olds calved in the middle of February and have Angus-sired heifer calves at side.
