HOW TO PREPARE YOUR MIND AND BODY FOR MARATHON SEASON B Y JULIA N BI S QUER T 10

W
ith the London Marathon, Belfast Half Marathon and Southampton Marathon all just around the corner, marathon season is in full swing. By this stage, the hard work is largely done. The long runs are in the bank, the mileage has peaked, and tapering is beginning. But this final phase, and what you do immediately after race day, can make a huge difference to how you perform, and how quickly you recover. Because finishing a marathon
is not just about fitness. It is about preparing your body to tolerate 26.2 miles, and then helping it bounce back.
The Final Weeks: It is Not About Doing More One of the biggest mistakes runners make before a marathon is trying to squeeze in extra training at the last minute. More miles. More sessions. More intensity. In reality, this is where less becomes more. Your focus should shift to maintaining consistency, not increasing load; prioritising sleep and recovery; keeping runs sharp but controlled, and avoiding anything new or high risk. You are not building fitness now. You are protecting it.
Pre Race Movement: Stay Loose, Not Fatigued In the final week, mobility work can help keep you feeling fresh but this is not the time for aggressive stretching or pushing new ranges. Think dynamic, controlled movement rather than long static holds.

Before Runs and Race Day: Focus on Activation
is where gentle, targeted stretching can support recovery.
1. Leg Swings (Front and Side to Side) loosen hips and hamstrings while keeping movement dynamic.
Top Stretches for Runners
2. Walking Lunges with Rotation opens the hips and activates glutes while engaging your core.
2. Hamstring Stretch helps restore length after repetitive stride patterns
3. Calf Raises (Slow and Controlled) prepare the lower legs, which is crucial for absorbing impact over long distances.
3. Calf Stretch (Straight and Bent Knee) reduces stiffness in lower legs and Achilles
These movements help switch on key muscle groups without draining energy.
Post Run and Post Race: Where Stretching Matters More After running, especially after a marathon, your muscles are fatigued, tight, and under stress. This

1. Hip Flexor Stretch targets the front of the hips
4. Glute Stretch (Figure 4 Position) relieves tension through hips and posterior chain 5. Quad Stretch supports recovery of major working muscles Hold each for 20 to 30 seconds, keep it gentle, and avoid forcing range, especially immediately after the race.
P H Y S I O TH E R A PY
Race Day: Respect the Load A marathon places huge demand on the body, not just muscles but joints, tendons, and the nervous system. Pacing is key. It is easy to get caught up in the atmosphere, particularly in major events like the London Marathon, where adrenaline can carry you through the early miles. But going out too fast is one of the most common causes of late race breakdown. Run within yourself early. Your future legs will thank you.
Recovery: Where the Real Work Begins Crossing the finish line is a huge achievement but recovery starts immediately.
The First 24 to 48 Hours 1. Keep moving gently, e.g. short walks 2. Hydrate well and consistently 3. Prioritise protein intake 4. Expect stiffness and fatigue
Avoid the temptation to do nothing at all. Light movement helps circulation and reduces stiffness.
The First Week After 1. Reduce running volume significantly 2. Swap runs for low impact activity such as cycling or swimming 3. Continue light mobility work 4. Focus on sleep and nutrition Your body is repairing muscle tissue, restoring energy stores, and calming the nervous system.
The Bigger Picture Many runners rush back into training too quickly. But a marathon is not just another long run, it is a significant physiological stress. A good rule of thumb is to give your body time to fully recover before chasing your next goal. The fittest runners long term are not the ones who push through fatigue, they are the ones who respect it.

hen people set out to get lean, the conversation usually revolves around calories: eat less, move more, repeat. While energy balance does matter, it is only part of the picture. If your goal is to lose fat while keeping or even building muscle, protein is not just helpful, it is foundational. At its core, getting lean is about improving body composition, not just dropping weight on the scale. That means preserving muscle mass while reducing body fat. Protein plays the central role in making that happen. Firstly, protein is the building block of muscle tissue. When you train, especially with resistance workouts, you create microscopic damage in muscle fibres. Your body repairs and strengthens these fibres using amino acids derived from protein. Without enough protein, that repair process is compromised. The result is that you risk losing muscle along with fat, which ultimately leads to a
softer, less defined look even if the scale is going down. Secondly, protein helps protect your metabolism. Muscle tissue is metabolically active, meaning it burns calories even at rest. When you lose muscle due to inadequate protein intake, your resting metabolic rate can drop, making fat loss harder over time. In contrast, maintaining muscle through sufficient protein keeps your metabolism more resilient, which is critical during a calorie deficit. There is also the satiety factor. Protein is more filling than carbohydrates or fats, helping you stay satisfied on fewer calories. This matters more than most people realise. Hunger is one of the main reasons diets fail, and protein can be a powerful tool in keeping cravings in check and adherence high. Another often overlooked benefit is the thermic effect of food. Protein requires more energy to digest, absorb, and process compared with carbs

and fats. In practical terms, this means you burn slightly more calories just by eating protein rich foods. It is not a magic trick, but over time, it contributes to the overall equation. So how much protein do you actually need? While exact requirements vary, a solid guideline for those training regularly and aiming to get lean is roughly 1.6 to 2.2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. Spread this intake across meals to maximise muscle protein synthesis throughout the day. Quality and consistency matter just as much as quantity. Lean meats, fish, eggs, dairy, legumes, and high quality protein supplements can all play a role. The key is building a routine where hitting your

protein target becomes automatic rather than an afterthought. It is also worth addressing a common mistake: prioritising protein only after a workout. While post workout nutrition is useful, your body does not operate in a narrow anabolic window. What matters more is your total daily intake and how evenly it is distributed. In the end, getting lean is not about extremes, it is about precision. Calories set the direction, but protein determines the quality of the outcome. If you want to look strong, defined, and athletic rather than just smaller, hitting your protein target is not optional. It is the difference between weight loss and true transformation.

Think of them as tiny “messenger molecules” that tell your skin and body how to behave.
Peptides for the skin Using peptides in skincare has 3 key benefits: • Improves skin texture • Reduces the appearance of wrinkles • Supports collagen production This helps slow early signs of ageing, prevents fine lines from worsening, and improves overall skin quality.
3. Reduce wrinkles (Botox-like effect) Some peptides relax facial muscle movement slightly. Helps soften expression lines like crow’s feet and forehead lines. 4. Support repair & healing Help repair sun damage and environmental stress. Can improve pigmentation, acne scarring, and uneven tone.
Peptides can be found in:
5. Boost elasticity Support collagen + elastin production. Skin feels more supple, with less sagging.
• Skincare (serums, creams)
Peptides for the body
• Supplements (less proven for skin)
Peptides also act as signalling molecules in the body, influencing processes like healing, hormones, and metabolism.
• Professional treatments (e.g. injections in some clinics) Important: They are NOT a replacement for treatments like Botox, but with consistent use, they can deliver great long-term results. How do peptides anti-age the skin? 1. Stimulate collagen production “Signal peptides” tell your skin to produce more collagen by activating repair processes in the dermis. Skin becomes firmer, plumper, and wrinkles appear reduced over time. 2. Improve skin barrier They strengthen the outer skin layer, helping retain moisture. Especially helpful for dry skin, eczema, and dermatitis.
Important: Many uses are still experimental — there’s a lot of hype online. Potential benefits 1. Muscle growth & recovery * May support lean muscle growth * Can improve recovery after exercise 2. Better sleep * May improve sleep quality * Can support deeper, restorative sleep 3. Fat loss & metabolism * May increase fat breakdown * Can help regulate appetite Results vary a lot.

HEALTH
4. Cognitive support * May support memory and focus * Possible neuroprotective effects 5. Injury healing & inflammation * May help tendon, ligament, and muscle recovery * Can reduce inflammation Strong evidence is still limited. Summary Peptides are promising in anti-ageing and longevity. They can support skin health, recovery, and overall ageing processes. But: * Evidence is still developing * They are NOT a quick fix * They work best alongside the basics: sleep, hydration, exercise, diet, stress management, and good skincare

F I T N E S S MAGAZINE
The Silent Gym There was a time when gyms were loud in more ways than one. Weights clanged, music played, and conversations happened naturally between sets. “How many sets have you got left?” “Need a spot?”
T E C H N O LO GY “One more rep.” These were small interactions, nothing major, but they mattered. Now you can train for 90 minutes without saying a single word, and most people do. It is not hostile or intentional. It is just silent.
The Technology Bubble The modern gym experience is perfectly engineered for isolation. Headphones go in before the warmup even begins. Programmes live on apps, sets are tracked on screens, and rest is timed by watches. There is no need to ask anyone anything. Your workout is planned, your rest is dictated, and your progress is recorded. Everything you need is already in your pocket, on your wrist, or in your ears. Technology did not just enhance training; it removed interaction from it.
It’s Not Just the Gym This shift did not start with fitness. Look around and it becomes clear that we do not communicate like we used to. We avoid phone calls, order through apps instead of speaking, and sit next to each other while scrolling through separate digital worlds. The gym is not the cause of this change; it is the mirror. It is simply a place where the shift becomes impossible to ignore, because interaction
used to be part of the process. Now it is optional, and most people opt out.
The Socially Awkward Athlete It is not that people do not want connection, but that we have become less comfortable with it. Eye contact feels like an interruption, asking for a spot feels like an inconvenience, and starting a conversation feels unnecessary. So we default to silence. Headphones are not just for music anymore; they are a signal. Do not disturb. Do not engage. Do not break the routine, even when nothing is playing.
The Death of Shared Effort There is something missing from modern training, and it is not data, structure, or efficiency. It is energy — the kind that comes from other people. The push from a stranger watching your last rep, the nod of respect after a hard set, and the unspoken competition that makes you lift slightly heavier all used to be part of the gym experience. Now motivation is internal or digital: a number on a screen, a target to hit, a notification to close. But numbers do not cheer for you, and a watch cannot spot you.
CHESHIRE
F I T N E S S MAGAZINE

TE C HNOLOG Y
More Connected. Less Together. We have never been more connected. Every workout can be shared, every run uploaded, and every stat compared. Platforms have turned training into a network. But connection is not the same as presence. You can have hundreds of people view your workout and still not speak to a single person while doing it.
The Only Question Left Next time you train, pay attention — not to your sets, your reps, or your numbers, but to the room itself. Listen to what is actually being said. If anyone speaks at all, it is usually the same question: “How many sets have you got
left?” That is it. Not advice, encouragement, or conversation — just logistics. Communication in the gym has been reduced to necessity. We only speak when something is in the way, and everything else stays internal or digital.
Is This Actually a Problem? For some people, this shift feels like progress. There is no pressure, no judgement, and no unwanted conversation — just you and your workout. For beginners especially, this can feel safer, more controlled, and more predictable. There is value in that. Not everyone wants the old-school gym culture, and not everyone needs it. But something has still changed.
What We Lost Without Noticing We did not remove community overnight; we slowly engineered it out. Step by step, headphones replaced conversation, apps replaced interaction, and convenience replaced friction. Yet friction was where connection used to live — in the small moments, quick exchanges, and shared effort. It did not disappear dramatically. It faded quietly.
The Trade Off We gained efficiency, independence, and control over our environment. But in return, we lost something harder to measure: spontaneity, energy, and human presence. The gym became more personal, but also less social.

So What Now?
The Quiet Question
This is not about removing technology or forcing conversation. It is about awareness. Culture does not simply disappear; it is replaced. Every time we choose the screen over the room, the playlist over the person, and the routine over the moment, we shape what the gym becomes.
We have built the most advanced training environment in history — smart, efficient, and personalised. But standing in a silent room full of people, it is worth asking: did we make it better, or just quieter? We filled the gym with equipment, and emptied it of connection.

ost people in the gym are doing enough. They are showing up, training regularly, and trying to improve. But if you are honest, there has probably been a point where something has not quite felt right. Certain exercises never fully click. You are not sure what you should be feeling. And even when you get stronger, confidence does not always follow. That is what we see with a lot of people before they come to us at Dobie Optimum Fitness. It is rarely a lack of effort. More often, it is a lack of clarity.
Strength Is Not the Problem A lot of people assume the next step is to get stronger. Add more weight, push harder, do more. But strength on its own does not always mean you are moving well. You can be strong in a lift and still be compensating. You can progress but build it on poor patterns. You can get stronger and still not feel in control. We see this all the time. People come in already strong, but when we slow things down, there is something missing underneath it. Positions shift, muscles disengage, other areas take over.
So the issue is not strength. It is what that strength is built on.
What Comes First Before load, before progression, control needs to come first. Being able to hold position, move properly through range, and feel the right muscles doing the work. That is the foundation.
CHESHIRE
F I T N E S S MAGAZINE
33
ME N ’S F I T N ES S
Because once that is in place, strength builds in a way that actually transfers. Without it, you are just reinforcing the same habits.
Why Control Matters Control is what keeps everything where it should be. It is the difference between getting through a movement and actually understanding it. This is usually the turning point for clients. “I think I am doing this right” becomes “I can actually feel what is working now”. That is when confidence starts to build.
The Core Connection The core is often misunderstood. It is not just about visible abs, it is what links everything together. It helps you stay stable, transfer force, and keep your body in position while you move. When it is working properly, movements feel smoother and more controlled. When it is not, things feel unstable or disconnected.
34
CHESHIRE
F I T N E S S MAGAZINE
Slowing Things Down Take something like a glute bridge. Most people rush through it. But when you slow it down and focus on control, it becomes a completely different exercise. You feel your glutes working, you stay in position, and you understand what the movement is actually doing. “I have never felt that before.”
What This Looks Like in Practice In the gym this usually means changing how you approach training. Less focus on finishing reps. More focus on how each rep feels. Slowing things down, maintaining position, and stopping when control starts to slip. Most people think they are moving slowly. They are not. And that is often where things start to change.
ME N ’ S FI T N ES S
Load Has Its Place
Final Perspective
Once control is there, load becomes far more effective. Movements like the hip thrust do not change the pattern, they just increase the demand. More load simply shows how well you can control it.
At Dobie Optimum Fitness, the goal is not just to make people stronger. It is to help them feel confident in how they move.
If the movement is solid, it works. If it is not, it becomes obvious.
Because once that is there, movement improves, strength carries over, and training becomes consistent. Strength will always matter, but control is what makes it usable.
Why Progress Stalls For many people it is not a lack of effort. It is repeating the same patterns: rushing reps, losing position, focusing on getting through the set. Over time those habits limit progress.
A More Effective Approach Better results do not come from doing more. They come from doing things properly: better setup, better control, better awareness. Small changes, but they add up quickly.

Opening this May, Smile Society introduces a fresh approach to private dental care: unhurried appointments, tailored treatments, and a genuinely reassuring experience from the moment you walk through the door. Here, the philosophy is simple— the most important person in the room is the one in the chair.

The Hidden Cause of Tooth Decay: It’s Not Just Sugar… It’s Frequency While Smile Society is focused on delivering exceptional care, prevention remains at the heart of its philosophy. And when it comes to tooth decay, there’s one key message many patients still misunderstand. Most people believe sugar is the main culprit. But the reality is more nuanced—and far more important.
What Really Causes Tooth Decay? Tooth decay is not simply about how much sugar you consume, but how often your teeth are exposed to acid attacks.

Each time you eat or drink something containing sugar or carbohydrates, bacteria in your mouth produces acid. This acid weakens the enamel, and your teeth need time to recover between these attacks.
Why Frequency Matters More Than Quantity Frequent snacking or sipping—especially throughout the day—means your teeth are under constant assault, with little opportunity to repair themselves. Even small amounts of sugar, consumed regularly, can be more damaging than a larger amount eaten in one sitting.
A Modern Lifestyle Risk One growing trend dentists are increasingly concerned about is the rise in protein shake

consumption among gym-goers. Many of these drinks, often consumed between meals, contain hidden sugars and are surprisingly acidic. The result? A noticeable increase in patients presenting with multiple new cavities within just a few months, alongside sensitivity and visible enamel damage.
A Preventable Problem Left unchecked, this pattern can lead to fillings, root canal treatments, or even tooth loss. The good news, however, is that it is entirely preventable.
How to Protect Your Smile Simple changes can make a significant difference: • Opt for sugar-free or low-acid drinks • Avoid sipping beverages over long periods • Keep sugary or acidic drinks to mealtimes only
D E N TI S TR Y
• Rinse your mouth with water after consuming them • Maintain regular dental check-ups
A Smarter Approach to Oral Health At Smile Society, education is just as important as treatment. By helping patients understand the real causes of dental issues, the clinic empowers them to make better choices—and avoid unnecessary procedures altogether. Because a healthy smile isn’t just about how it looks—it’s about how it lasts.

’ve been a chef for the last 11 years. My journey started at 17 as a kitchen porter washing dishes, but even then I knew I wanted to become a chef.
While working in my first restaurant, I gradually started helping with starters, desserts, plating dishes, and prep work. It gave me a real insight into kitchen life and confirmed this was the career I wanted.
At 18, I joined The Chester Grosvenor Hotel to complete my professional cookery qualifications. Working in a Michelin-starred environment alongside 40–50 chefs taught me discipline, attention to detail, and how to perform under pressure. It was the perfect foundation for my career. After gaining experience in several restaurants — including becoming a head chef at 23 — I eventually moved into private dining full time. Five years later, here we are. What I love most about private dining is that no two events are ever the same: • Different menus • Different cuisines • Different guests • Different occasions Most importantly, I get to create something personal for every client.

BEFORE THE EVENT I usually recommend booking at least 1 month in advance. This gives us time to discuss menus, logistics, timings, and exactly how you’d like the evening to run. I can either create a completely bespoke menu or send over seasonal sample menus for inspiration.
ON THE DAY I arrive 1–2 hours before service, fully prepared and ready to go. Around 80% of preparation is completed beforehand to keep the evening smooth and stressfree, while key elements like meat and fish are cooked fresh on-site to order. Unlike restaurants, there’s no pressure or rush. If you want longer between courses to relax and socialise, the evening moves entirely at your pace.
THE FINAL TOUCH Once the final course is served, I clean everything down and leave the kitchen spotless — meaning
you can continue enjoying your evening without worrying about tidying up afterwards.
My goal is simple: To take all the stress away from hosting, so you can fully enjoy time with your guests while I handle everything behind the scenes.
WHY CHOOSE A PRIVATE CHEF? A private dining experience offers something restaurants simply can’t: • A menu designed specifically for you • Complete comfort in your own home • No noisy dining rooms • No rushed table turnarounds • More time with your guests The evening is entirely yours.

we also went to see the strongman section. Also couldn’t forget the Hyrox section and had to make a video.
There was also a kind of Comic Con convention going on at the same time at the NEC. So as we walked through, there were a load of gym rats standing next to all these nerds dressed up as their favourite cartoon characters which was pretty funny to see.
There were no kettlebells though, which was a bit surprising as every man and his dog is doing kettlebells nowadays.
We arrived at the expo and the place was buzzing. Halls were rammed, supplement stalls everywhere, blokes in string vests and girls in gym leggings trying to promote the brands they work for and sell pre-workout. Clothing brands, protein bars, the lot. I went round with my mates, filming content and we had a proper laugh about the latest fitness trends. They had a full gym setup right in the middle with machines, benches and racks, so obviously I had to get a few sets in (it would have been rude not to!). The bodybuilding stage was mental there, and the crowd was packed out for it. We watched a bit, then
We also saw some big names in the bodybuilding industry walking around, including Samson Dauda and Andrew Jacked who are two of the biggest names at the moment. Overall a successful and enjoyable trip with my mates. Loads of content banked and a fun day out having a laugh. Definitely be back next year. Andrew Jacked wins the 2026 Arnold Classic UK. to the stage once again. The competition began on Friday and continued into Saturday afternoon. Andrew Jacked went into the competition fresh off his victory at the 2026 Arnold Classic earlier in the month. The Nigerian-born star stunned the bodybuilding world by defeating a stacked lineup to win and capture the record-setting $750,000 firstplace prize. He went into Birmingham looking to continue momentum and did just that with another victory. Rising contender Martin Fitzwater also entered the show with growing momentum following strong finishes at the Olympia level. With names like Hassan Mostafa and Akim Williams rounding out the lineup, the Men’s Open contest could easily have turned into one of the most competitive battles of the spring bodybuilding season. ompeting in elite sport has always required commitment, stamina and pushing the body to its extreme. There is an assumption that becoming pregnant, having a baby, and stepping into motherhood marks the end of a woman’s elite career as an athlete. For a long time, athletes who chose to have families would disappear from start lines, podiums and rarely returned at the level they were competing
at. When someone did return, it was seen as an exception to the rule, rather than the norm. However, in recent years, there has been a growing number of female athletes challenging this view and showing that having a baby does not mean they have to sacrifice their career, and that it is possible to do both; be a mother and an elite athlete. Returning to elite sport at any stage after childbirth in itself is incredibly impressive, but some women across various disciplines have shown a remarkable speed of return to the top. After giving birth to her first child, Isla, in early 2007, Paula Radcliffe made one of, if not the most, impressive comebacks in marathon history. Less than 10 months after having her baby, Radcliffe not only ran the 2007 New York City Marathon, but won it! She crossed the finish line in a time of 2 hours, 23 minutes, and 9 seconds. Marathon running requires extreme aerobic fitness and endurance, which she rebuilt in less than a year. She also went on to place third in the 2011 Berlin

months, others after years. What connects them is resilience, strength, and passion for their sport. With growing visibility of postpartum comebacks, the narrative is shifting and what is seen as possible for female athletes continues to expand.
Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill, Olympic heptathlon champion, also returned to elite sport after giving birth in 2014. She won gold at the 2015 World Championships shortly after her comeback, saying motherhood gave her new motivation. Sophie Power, a British ultra runner, has also made headlines. She holds records including running over 226 miles in 48 hours and crossing Ireland on foot in record time. In 2018, she was famously photographed breastfeeding during the Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc race while still competing. She later finished the race running with her son and holding her baby. ootball’s most historic competition has once again come to a close, with this years semi finals having just taken place. The FA Cup is one of the most desired trophies in English football due to its vast history and the unpredictability around games which comes to light every year. Every team in England can enter and, therefore, have the chance to win the trophy at Wembley at the end of the season in May, with the final venue being just another reason why the competition is so special. The 2025/26 edition has been very exciting and has

provided thrilling games, impressive goals and underdog stories, including a historic, record breaking run from one of Cheshire’s own clubs. The FA Cup continuously provides exciting stories every year due to many factors. For example, for many, a Premier League drawing a lower league team may seem like an easy game. However, often away games can stump big clubs due to intense atmospheres, worse pitches and pressure of being a huge favourite. And as fans we love the magic of the FA Cup. A few recent examples are: Bradford beating Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea in the fourth round 4-2 in 2015, relegated Premier League side Wigan beating
Manchester City to win the competition in 2013, Lincoln City becoming the first non-league side to reach the quarter finals beating EFL and Premier League Brighton along the way and many more. The FA Cup consists of knockout games in which the teams are drawn from a hat to decide their opponents, along with who plays at home. Before the proper competition begins, there are six rounds of qualifying for teams that are part of the National League system, tiers 5-10 of English football, more commonly known as non-league. Teams in tier 6 (National League North and South) enter the competition with three qualifying rounds to play

and teams in tier 5 of English football (National League) enter with only one round of qualifying to play. Of these teams in the non-league system, 32 qualify for the competition proper, in which teams from the EFL’s lowest divisions (League One and League Two) enter to play against them. Therefore, the First Round proper consists of 80 teams and 40 head to head matchups. It is not until Round Three that teams from the top two divisions of English football, the Championship and the Premier League enter the competition, making it a round of 64 teams from that point onwards. Up until the 2024/25 season, a draw between teams resulted in a replay at the opposing venue to where the initial game was played, but this was controversially scrapped, mainly due to busy schedules for clubs and taking another game off the calendar. However, fans and some clubs argued 70

F I T N E S S MAGAZINE

against the decision, as for smaller teams playing two fixtures against a larger club it would benefit them massively due to revenue from tickets being split 50/50 in the competition. Instead of a replay, teams now play extra time followed by penalties if the deadlock has still not been broken. This change came to light recently as National League side Tamworth played against Tottenham at home in Round Three. Tamworth battled through 90 minutes and held Spurs to a 0-0 draw. Instead of going to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and potentially doubling their season’s revenue, the new rules meant the game went straight to extra time. Spurs brought on stars such as Heung-Min Son and Dejan Kulusevski and eventually ran away with a 3-0 win. For a non-league team, playing at a Premier League stadium could be the highlight of their club’s season or even history and this rule
makes it less likely, which is why the change has proven controversial. Six rounds take place from Round Three onwards as the teams are whittled down from 64 to just two who compete against each other in the final. The semi-finals and final are played at Wembley Stadium, the country’s most iconic venue and home to the England national team. This tradition has continued since the original Wembley opened in 1923. First taking place in 1871, the FA Cup was a proposed idea from the Football Association, the governing body for football in England. Specifically, it was secretary C.W. Alcock who believed it would be desirable for the FA to establish a competition in which all members of the association would be invited to compete against

each other for the trophy. Fifty clubs were eligible to enter, but only 12 chose to do so. In November 1871, the inaugural tournament kicked off and the teams battled to become the first winners of what would go on to become England’s most famous domestic trophy. Wanderers emerged victorious and lifted the first FA Cup. In the competition’s 155 year history, 45 different clubs have won the cup, with Arsenal boasting the most victories with 14. Manchester United follow closely behind with 13, while Manchester City’s triumph in the 2025/26 final moved them onto eight FA Cup titles. Blackburn Rovers are the oldest active winners of the competition, having first won it in 1884. Despite not having a club who has won the FA Cup, Cheshire still holds a unique place in the 72

competition’s history after this year’s edition. Macclesfield FC, based in west Cheshire, compete in the sixth tier of English football, the National League North. This meant they had to navigate three qualifying rounds before even reaching the First Round proper. They defeated Atherton Laburnum Rovers 3-0, Nantwich Town 2-0 and Stamford 1-0, with all three games taking place at home. Macclesfield then drew AFC Totton in the First Round proper and produced a stunning 6-3 victory before travelling to Slough Town in Round Two, where they secured another convincing 3-1 win. In Round Three, history was made. They drew reigning FA Cup holders Crystal Palace at home, with 117 league places separating the sides. Against all odds, Macclesfield shocked the Premier League
FE ATURE side with a famous 2-1 victory, setting a new record for the biggest gap overturned by the lower ranked side in FA Cup history and becoming the first non-league team to eliminate the reigning holders of the competition. Although their remarkable run ended in Round Four against Brentford, their achievements captured the imagination of football fans across the country and perfectly represented the magic of the FA Cup. Elsewhere in the competition there were more memorable stories. Brackley Town stunned Notts County in Round One, Boreham Wood enjoyed another impressive cup run and Port Vale reached the quarter-finals after upsetting Premier League opposition. Manchester City announced themselves as serious contenders with a ruthless 10-1 victory over Exeter in Round Three, while Wrexham shocked Nottingham Forest on penalties. The semi-finals brought four very different clubs together at Wembley. Manchester City faced Southampton, while Chelsea met Leeds United. Southampton pushed City all the way and even threatened a huge upset before Pep Guardiola’s side rallied late on to secure a dramatic victory and book their place in the final. Chelsea edged Leeds 1-0 the
following day to set up a blockbuster final between two of England’s most successful clubs. After another season full of drama, underdog stories and unforgettable moments, the FA Cup final finally arrived. Wembley Stadium hosted Chelsea against Manchester City in front of a packed crowd as both sides looked to add another famous chapter to their history. In the end, it was Manchester City who lifted the trophy and were crowned 2025/26 FA Cup champions. Guardiola’s side once again showed their quality on the biggest stage, overcoming Chelsea to secure the club’s eighth FA Cup title and cap off another hugely successful season. Yet despite City’s triumph, the 2025/26 FA Cup will be remembered for far more than just the winners. Macclesfield’s historic run, Port Vale’s journey to the latter stages and several unforgettable upsets once again proved why the competition remains so beloved. From non-league dreamers to Premier League superpowers, the magic of the FA Cup continues to thrive and ensures that every season brings new stories that will live long in football history.

ummer Starts Now: Inside AJMR Studio’s Game-Changing HIEM Body Sculpting Revolution
As the seasons shift and the days slowly grow longer, there’s a familiar thought that begins to creep in for many of us: summer is coming. While it may feel distant in the chill of winter or the fresh bloom of spring, the truth is that

the bodies we want for summer aren’t built in a rush—they’re created through consistent, smart choices made months in advance. At AJMR Studio in Crosby, that philosophy has never been more exciting or more achievable, thanks to the arrival of a powerful new innovation: HIEM body sculpting. This cutting-edge treatment is redefining what it means to tone, strengthen, and sculpt the body—

treated. It’s an intensity that simply isn’t achievable through conventional exercise.
The Future of Body Sculpting Has Arrived
Even better, HIEM allows you to treat two areas at the same time. That means you could be working on your abs and glutes simultaneously, or targeting thighs while strengthening your core—maximising results without adding extra time to your day.
HIEM body sculpting is not just another trend; it’s a breakthrough in non-invasive aesthetic technology. Designed to target muscle groups with incredible precision, this treatment uses highintensity electromagnetic energy to stimulate thousands of muscle contractions in a single session. And here’s where it gets even more impressive: each session lasts just 30 minutes, making it incredibly easy to fit into even the busiest schedule. Within that short time, your muscles are pushed to perform the equivalent of around 25,000 sit-ups, squats, or targeted contractions, depending on the area being
What truly sets HIEM apart is how it works. Unlike voluntary contractions you perform during exercise, HIEM triggers what are known as “supramaximal contractions”. These are deeper, more powerful muscle engagements that your body simply cannot achieve on its own. The result? Enhanced muscle tone, improved strength, and a visibly more sculpted physique.

At AJMR Studio, clients are already discovering how transformative this can be. Whether you’re looking to tighten your core, lift and tone your glutes, or strengthen areas that have been resistant to traditional workouts, HIEM offers a solution that feels both futuristic and incredibly accessible.
Why the Gym Isn’t Always Enough Let’s be clear—the gym has its place. Staying active, building strength, and maintaining cardiovascular health are all essential parts of a balanced lifestyle. But even with the most disciplined routine, there are limits to what you can achieve through exercise alone. Plateaus happen. Certain muscle groups can be difficult to isolate. Time constraints can make it hard to stay consistent. And for many people, achieving that final level of definition—the kind that really stands out in summer—can feel frustratingly out of reach. That’s where HIEM body sculpting steps in. It doesn’t replace your fitness routine; it enhances it. By working muscles at an intensity that’s impossible to replicate manually, it accelerates results and helps you break through those stubborn barriers— all in just half an hour per session.

Start Now, Shine Later There’s a saying that has become something of a mantra in the world of aesthetics and wellness: summer bodies are made in winter. It’s simple, but it’s true. The biggest mistake people make is waiting until late spring—or even early summer—to start thinking about their goals. By then, time is limited, and expectations can become unrealistic. Real, lasting results take planning, consistency, and a bit of patience. Starting your HIEM body sculpting journey in winter or early spring gives your body the time it needs to respond, adapt, and transform. It allows for gradual, natural-looking improvements that build over time, rather than rushed, last-minute changes. At AJMR Studio, the recommended starting point is a course of six sessions. This structured approach ensures that your muscles receive the consistent stimulation they need to begin developing and toning effectively. Most clients begin to notice visible improvements after completing this initial course—firmer areas, improved definition, and an overall more sculpted appearance.

No Downtime, No Excuses
At AJMR Studio, there’s a strong belief that everyone deserves access to treatments that make them feel confident and empowered. That’s why HIEM body sculpting is now more affordable than ever, opening the door for more clients to experience its benefits.
One of the most appealing aspects of HIEM body sculpting is how seamlessly it fits into modern life. There’s no downtime, no recovery period, and no disruption to your daily routine.
It’s not just about luxury; it’s about practicality. When you consider that each 30-minute session delivers the equivalent of tens of thousands of muscle contractions, the value becomes clear.
You can come in for a quick 30-minute session— even treating two areas at once—relax while the technology does the work, and then go straight back to your day.
Pairing HIEM with Laser Hair Removal: The Ultimate Summer Prep
From there, maintenance is simple. Occasional top-up sessions every few weeks help sustain and enhance your results, keeping you looking and feeling your best as summer approaches.
In a world where time is often our most limited resource, treatments like this offer something truly valuable: efficiency. You’re investing in your body without sacrificing your schedule.
Making Results More Accessible Than Ever Advanced treatments have often carried the perception of being out of reach—something reserved for a select few. But that’s changing.
While body sculpting is a major part of getting summer-ready, it’s not the only one. Smooth, hairfree skin is another key element—and just like muscle toning, it’s something that requires forward planning. Laser hair removal is most effective when started during the winter months. Why? Because the treatment works best when there’s a contrast between your natural skin tone and hair, and when the skin hasn’t been recently exposed to the sun. Starting now means you can complete a full course of treatments before summer arrives. By the time the warmer weather hits, you’ll be able to enjoy

Treatments like HIEM aren’t about changing who you are—they’re about enhancing what’s already there. They help you feel like the best version of yourself, and that confidence radiates into every aspect of your life.
A Personalised Approach at AJMR Studio No two bodies are the same, and no two goals are identical. That’s why every HIEM body sculpting journey at AJMR Studio begins with a personalised consultation. This is your opportunity to discuss what you want to achieve, whether that’s a flatter stomach, more defined arms, or a lifted, toned appearance. From there, a tailored plan is created to ensure you get the best possible results. The team at AJMR Studio is committed to providing not just treatments, but experiences. Confidence That Goes Beyond Appearance While the physical results of HIEM body sculpting are impressive, the impact goes deeper than aesthetics. There’s a powerful psychological shift that happens when you start to feel stronger, more toned, and more in control of your body. It’s easy to put things off. To say you’ll start next month, or when the weather improves, or when life feels a little less busy. But the truth is, there’s never a perfect time—only the time you decide to begin. Starting your HIEM body sculpting journey now means giving yourself the gift of time. Time to see results. Time to build confidence. Time to truly enjoy the transformation. And when summer finally arrives, you won’t be wishing you had started sooner—you’ll be stepping into it feeling ready, confident, and proud of what you’ve achieved.
Final Thoughts The arrival of HIEM body sculpting at AJMR Studio marks an exciting new chapter—not just for the salon, but for anyone looking to take their body goals to the next level. It’s innovative, effective, and designed to fit into real life. In just 30 minutes, treating two areas at once, and delivering the equivalent of 25,000

among runners, HYROX competitors and everyday athletes looking for apparel that performs both in and beyond the gym. “Velozia is built for people who value consistency over intensity,” says Carl Giles, Co-Founder of the brand. “Our products are designed to move naturally with the body. They should feel intuitive, responsive and supportive without distraction. Every detail is considered so the clothing enhances motion rather than restricting it.” At the heart of the new collection is Velo-Dri™, Velozia’s proprietary performance fabric technology developed specifically for high-intensity training environments. Each garment is engineered with advanced sweat-wicking properties, enhanced breathability and an ultra-lightweight feel designed to move with the athlete. The range has been tested with HYROX athletes and competitive runners, ensuring the products perform in real training environments rather than controlled lab settings.
The collection itself is organised around two complementary systems: performance and lifestyle. The Velocity range focuses on high-performance training and race-day readiness. Key pieces include a lightweight singlet designed for gym sessions, track work and competition, alongside compressive half-tights developed for HYROX, functional fitness and running. Built using the Velo-Dri™ fabric, the pieces deliver support, ventilation and freedom of movement for athletes pushing their limits. Alongside this sits the Performance Lifestyle range, designed for preparation, recovery and everyday wear. The clean-cut tracksuit is intended for pretraining routines and post-workout recovery, while the versatile Tri-Set pairing of t-shirt and shorts offers a flexible option for warm-ups, light training or casual use. The aim is to create apparel that transitions naturally between training environments and daily life. The second, Cadence, is a cooler blue-grey shade named to reflect rhythm, controlled effort and the steady tempo of consistent training. From 538 teams across the country at the start, it was Manchester City who came out on top — beating Brighton 4-0 at Wembley to lift the trophy and complete the first league-and-cup double in their history. Here’s how it all unfolded. The Adobe Women’s FA Cup was established in 1970 and has been a huge source of entertainment and opportunity for 56 years. This year, Chatham Town (a tier 4 side) and Oxford City (a tier 3 side) enjoyed unbelievable runs to reach the fifth round — going further than nine fully professional women’s teams in the process. Although the final four were all Women’s Super League clubs (the top level of English women’s football), each took a very different path to the last four.

Liverpool were the lowest-ranked side left in the competition, and they did themselves proud. In the semifinal, Brighton trailed Liverpool 2-0 but roared back through Manuela Vanegas and Madison Haley before substitute Nadine Noordam curled in a dramatic added-time winner to make it 3-2 and send Brighton to Wembley for the very first time. The other semi-final brought together two of the most in-form teams in the country: holders Chelsea and WSL champions Manchester City. Chelsea — six-time winners, and 3-0 victors over Manchester United in last season’s final — had battled past Crystal Palace, Manchester United and Tottenham to reach the last four, and moved the tie to Stamford Bridge for the first time in the

That win sent Manchester City into their first FA Cup final since 2022. Having already lifted the league title, Andrée Jeglertz’s side arrived at Wembley chasing a historic double — and with players like Alex Greenwood, Kerstin Casparij, Bunny Shaw and Vivianne Miedema, they were always going to take some stopping. learing the Air: Why Air Purifiers Are Becoming a Modern Home Essential.
Step into any modern home today and you’ll find a growing awareness around air quality. It’s no longer just about how a space looks or feels, it’s about what you’re breathing in every second. With rising pollution levels, increased time spent indoors, and greater understanding of respiratory health, air purifiers have quietly moved from luxury gadget to everyday essential.
96
CHESHIRE
F I T N E S S MAGAZINE
At their core, air purifiers are designed to remove contaminants from indoor air. These can include dust, pollen, pet dander, mould spores, smoke particles, and even microscopic pollutants that you can’t see but certainly feel over time. For many households, especially those in urban environments or with limited ventilation, this makes a tangible difference to daily comfort and long-term health. One of the most widely recognised benefits of air purifiers is their impact on respiratory health.
HE ALTH Y HO ME S
For people who suffer from asthma, allergies, or other breathing-related conditions, cleaner air can significantly reduce symptoms. High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters, for example, are capable of trapping particles as small as 0.3 microns capturing common triggers like pollen and fine dust. This can lead to fewer flare-ups, better sleep, and a noticeable improvement in overall quality of life.
effective at absorbing odours, gases, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released from cleaning products, paints, and furnishings. Another popular feature is real time air quality monitoring. Built-in sensors detect pollutant levels and adjust the purifier’s speed accordingly, ensuring optimal performance without unnecessary energy use. Some units display air quality through colourcoded indicators, while others connect to mobile
But the benefits aren’t limited to those with diagnosed conditions. Even in otherwise healthy individuals, prolonged exposure to indoor pollutants can lead to irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat, as well as fatigue and headaches. Over time, poor air quality may contribute to more serious health concerns. By continuously cycling and filtering the air, purifiers help create a cleaner, more stable environment that supports general wellbeing. Modern air purifiers also come equipped with a range of smart and practical features that make them more effective and user-friendly than ever. Many models now include multi-stage filtration systems, combining pre-filters, HEPA filters, and activated carbon layers. While HEPA handles particulate matter, activated carbon is particularly

quality of the air you breathe plays a direct role in how efficiently your body performs.
Noise reduction and energy efficiency have also improved significantly. Many purifiers now operate almost silently on lower settings, making them suitable for bedrooms and offices. Sleep modes, timers, and auto shut-off functions add convenience, while energy-efficient designs ensure they can run continuously without driving up electricity bills.
Cleaner air means better oxygen intake. When the air is free from pollutants and fine particles, your lungs don’t have to work as hard, allowing for improved oxygen exchange. This can translate into better endurance, reduced breathlessness, and more efficient workouts. On the flip side, polluted indoor air can subtly hinder performance, leading to quicker fatigue and reduced output over time.
Beyond health, air purifiers contribute to a cleaner home environment overall. By reducing airborne dust and particles, they help keep surfaces cleaner for longer and can even protect furniture and electronics from buildup. For pet owners, they’re particularly useful in managing fur, dander, and lingering odours, creating a fresher and more welcoming living space.
Air purifiers also support recovery. Sleep quality is a major factor in muscle repair and overall fitness progress, and cleaner air free from allergens and irritants can promote deeper, uninterrupted rest. Reduced inflammation from fewer airborne irritants may also help your body recover more effectively between sessions.
Air Quality and Fitness: The Overlooked Performance Edge While air purifiers are often discussed in the context of illness prevention, their impact on everyday fitness and performance is just as important. Whether you’re training at home, doing cardio sessions, or even focusing on recovery, the 98
CHESHIRE
F I T N E S S MAGAZINE
Perhaps most importantly, investing in clean air often delivers more consistent, long-term benefits than many high-end fitness purchases. Expensive equipment or supplements can only go so far if the environment you’re training and recovering in is working against you. In that sense, an air purifier isn’t just a home accessory it’s a foundational upgrade that supports every breath, every workout, and every stage of your fitness journey.
HE ALTH Y HO ME S
It’s worth noting, however, that not all air purifiers are created equal. Choosing the right unit depends on room size, specific concerns (such as allergies or smoke), and the type of filtration system used. Regular maintenance, especially timely filter replacement, is also key to ensuring consistent performance.
As we continue to prioritise healthier living spaces, air purifiers represent a simple yet powerful investment. They work quietly in the background, improving the air you breathe, supporting your respiratory health, and enhancing the overall comfort of your home. In a world where so much is beyond our control, having cleaner air indoors is one upgrade that truly makes a difference..

The Dorchester Hotel offers an all-encompassing guest experience, with many facilities on offer to enjoy during the course of your stay. There is the chance to unwind in the luxurious spa, to dine in one of the gourmet restaurants or to experience the legendary afternoon tea, which has been served at The Promenade since 1931. Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester is the only UK hotel restaurant to hold an impressive 3 Michelin Stars, giving guests the chance to enjoy unparalleled fine contemporary French cuisine whilst staying at the hotel. There are also further restaurants to choose from: the iconic China Tang which serves authentic Cantonese food and the modern European cuisine offered at The Grill. Afternoon Tea at The Dorchester is something of an institution in London, offering the finest pastries and cakes in the refined setting of The Promenade. It is little wonder that The Dorchester is so revered. Throughout decades, the striking surroundings of the hotel have proven to be a magnet for writers and artists renowned for their talent, amongst them former poet laureate of England, Cecil Day-Lewis (father of the great actor Daniel Day-Lewis) and novelist Somerset Maugham. The hotel still enjoys strong ties to the literary scene, and the prestigious “Foyles Literary Luncheons”, are still hosted there today. In the 1930s The Dorchester became a haven for creative geniuses, who found inspiration in the classically elegant surroundings. The hotel was the residence of choice for a host of political and military figures during the Second World War, who
found comfort in the building’s stoical reputation during this time of adversity. The iconic hotel even played host to Queen Elizabeth II when she celebrated her engagement to the Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh in 1947. A plethora of A-list actors, models and rock stars consider The Dorchester to be their hotel of choice when they are in London. Indeed, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton frequently stayed at the hotel throughout their time together. The hotel was purchased by the Sultan of Brunei in 1985 and now belongs to the Dorchester Collection, meaning it is the jewel in the crown of the famous hotel group. In the 1950s, theatrical designer Oliver Messel redesigned the hotel and the Oliver Messel Suite apartment is named after him, modelled after a Georgian country house style. In the late 1980s the hotel was renovated by Bob Lush of the Richmond Design Group at a cost of £75 million, ensuring that the hotel has kept its luxurious and timeless glamour throughout.

t’s that time of year again—everyone’s asking: “Pete, what hair trends are going to be big this spring/summer?”
Now, I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a fashion and style nerd. I keep a close eye on awards season and runway looks—but the reality is, what you see on the red carpet doesn’t always translate into everyday, wearable styles for the average guy.
142
CHESHIRE
F I T N E S S MAGAZINE
What I do is take inspiration from those highfashion looks and bring them down to earth— making them practical, low-maintenance, and easy to live with. So, if you’re after a fresh look this season, here are a few styles you can take straight to your barber:
MEN’S HAIR
MOD/MULLET – Jacob Elordi Soft, textured, and easy to manage. This cut works best when it’s done properly—get the structure right, and it practically styles itself. Just a small amount of product keeps everything in place without overdoing it.
SOFT BUZZ – Jake Gyllenhaal A more relaxed version of the classic buzz cut. It’s still short, but less harsh—no heavy scalp exposure. A skilled barber can create this using scissors or clippers, and a touch of natural product gives it a clean, effortless finish.
THE FLOW – Glen Powell Perfect if you want a bit of length without the hassle of long hair. It sits right in that middle ground—easy, natural, and low-maintenance. The
key here is working with your natural growth, not against it. Great for finer hair too, especially if you want to avoid showing the scalp.
OLD MONEY – Jamie Dornan This has easily been the most requested look lately, especially from guys in their 30s and 40s. It’s all about looking sharp without trying too hard— clean, well-groomed, and quietly confident. Think effortless style rather than chasing trends. There’s a clear theme running through all of these: softer, looser, more natural styles. Well-cut, but never overdone. Effortlessly cool. These are the kind of looks that work anywhere— whether you’re behind a desk, out at a gig, or grabbing a drink at a bar opening. Less is definitely more right now. We’re moving away from high-maintenance styles that need

B E AU TY deliver but also for their value for money. These are the staples I reach for time and time again — the ones that live permanently in my bag or on my shelf. From hair and skin to tan and makeup, these are the beauty essentials that help you look and feel your very best.
My Hair Re-Growth Ritual Hair loss is something people rarely talk about until they experience it themselves. For me, it arrived alongside my autoimmune condition, Hashimoto’s. I started noticing strands on my pillow each
morning and seeing far more hair than usual in the shower. It was unsettling, to say the least. But once I began speaking openly about it with clients in our salon ( Hairfields in Childwall ), I realised just how common it actually is. Hormonal shifts, stress, illness, post-partum changes and general life burnout can all play a part. Whatever the cause, thinning hair can have a real impact on your confidence and how you feel. Over time I’ve learned there’s no miracle cure — consistency is what really makes the difference. One routine I’ve remained loyal to is the Nioxin Scalp
& Hair Thickening System 4. The version I use is designed for coloured hair that’s dry or damaged and experiencing more advanced thinning, although there are different systems depending on your hair type. It’s a simple three-step routine: shampoo, conditioner and a scalp treatment. I tend to use it once a week, usually mid-week. The shampoo has a cool, minty sensation that leaves the scalp feeling incredibly fresh and clean. It’s fantastic for scalp health, although it doesn’t give that ultra-silky,

B EAU T Y glossy finish — which is why I like to combine it with other products. Daily scalp care has become a real must for me, and that’s where the Kérastase Genesis Serum comes in. I apply it each evening before bed, concentrating on my scalp, particularly around my hairline and temples where my hair has always been finer. The formula is lightweight, absorbs quickly and never leaves a greasy residue — even if you’ve recently had your hair styled. I’ll admit I was sceptical at first because it’s a premium product and I wanted to see real results before committing to it. But the improvement was clear. The regrowth around my roots was noticeably longer where I had been applying the serum. It’s definitely an investment, and you’ll likely get through a bottle each month, but the results speak for themselves. At the weekend, especially if I have plans, I switch things up and use the Kérastase Genesis shampoo and masque. This is my go-to routine when I want my hair to look its absolute best. The scent alone is beautiful. I use a small amount of shampoo and then apply the masque, leaving it on for as long as I can. It leaves my hair feeling soft, glossy and incredibly healthy, without weighing it down. While these products are also beneficial for the scalp, they’re more of a treat than an everyday staple, which is why I balance them with the Nioxin system during the week. Hair recovery takes patience — it’s never an overnight fix. But looking after your scalp and staying consistent with the right products can make a real difference over time. Your future hair will thank you for it.
Tan: My Go-To Glow If, like me, you’re not a fan of feeling pale, you’ll understand why a good tan is always part of my routine. Over the years I’ve tried so many different products, but only a handful have really earned a permanent place in my bathroom cupboard. A touch of colour instantly makes your skin look healthier and gives you that extra confidence boost — especially when you’ve got plans or a special occasion coming up. I’m someone who loves a holiday, but even when I haven’t been anywhere sunny people still ask where I’ve been away to. My natural skin tone is quite fair even though my hair is naturally dark, so having 148

a little glow really helps brighten my complexion. Even when I’m wearing makeup, a tan just makes everything look fresher and more polished.
B E AU TY For everyday colour, I like to keep things simple with Garnier Summer Body Gradual Tan. It’s one of those products that quietly does its job without any fuss. Because it’s a gradual tanning moisturiser, it hydrates the skin while slowly building a naturallooking glow. I apply it after showering most days, and it gives just enough warmth to the skin without looking obvious or overdone. It’s perfect for work, daytime plans, or when you just want a subtle boost.
Boots or Home Bargains, so I tend to stock up when I see it. My little trick is to pop on a shower cap to protect the hairline, lightly mist the face, and you’re good to go. I spray it on before bed, and by morning my skin has a soft, sun-kissed glow that evens out my complexion without clogging pores or feeling heavy.
When I want something a little more noticeable — particularly for weekends or if I have an event — I switch to the tinted tanning lotion from Vita Liberata. I apply it using a tanning mitt, and it’s genuinely one of the easiest formulas I’ve used. The colour is a beautiful golden tone rather than anything orange, and it blends effortlessly across
the skin without streaking. What I love most is how evenly it develops and fades ( plus it doesn’t smell!) — it never leaves the skin looking patchy or dry, which makes it great even if you’re not the most confident tanner. For my face, there’s one product I always return to: the Ambre Solaire self-tan spray in medium. I’ve been using it for years and it’s still my fav, nothing comes close! I normally apply it two or three times a week, and it often appears on offer in places like

B EAU T Y Preparation is just as important as the tan itself, and removing old colour properly is something I never skip. Before applying fresh tan, I always use the Rose & Caramel exfoliating tan remover with gloves. It’s incredibly simple — apply it, leave it on for about a minute, then rinse, and the old tan lifts away effortlessly. Your skin is left smooth, even and perfectly prepped, which makes a huge difference to how fresh tan develops afterwards. When you find products that are reliable, easy to use and give consistent results, tanning stops feeling like a chore and becomes something you genuinely enjoy as part of your routine.
Makeup Must-Haves — And a Liverpool Beauty Tip When it comes to makeup, I’ve always believed you don’t need a huge collection to feel put together. A few reliable staples that you trust and reach for time and time again can make all the difference. you when you purchase two products — which is perfect if you’ve got a night out planned or simply want expert help finding the right foundation shade or lipstick tone. It takes all the guesswork out of choosing new products and gives you the chance to see them properly applied before you commit. If I had to narrow my own routine down to three makeup products I genuinely can’t be without, these would be them. Everything starts with a good base, and for me that will always be Giorgio Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Foundation. It’s been a cult favourite in the beauty world for years, and it’s easy to see why. When I first heard it was being reformulated, I worried the texture might change — but thankfully it still delivers that same flawless finish. The formula is lightweight and radiant, giving coverage where you need it while still looking natural and skin-like. I wear
shade 6.5, which blends beautifully with my skin tone and creates that effortless, healthy glow. Once my base is done, I always move on to lips. A good lip liner instantly elevates any makeup look and helps keep everything looking neat and defined throughout the day or night. I love the Maybelline lip liners with hyaluronic acid, and my favourite shade is On It. It’s the perfect everyday nude —

balanced between pink and brown so it works with almost any lipstick. The formula is creamy, comfortable to wear and never drying, making it a great everyday staple. To finish the look, I reach for a lipstick that my friends constantly ask about. The Yves Saint Laurent Love Shine lipstick in shade 202 is one of those products that feels as good as it looks. It’s incredibly hydrating, gives a beautiful glossy finish without being sticky, and still manages to last surprisingly well — even after food or drinks. Every time I wear it, someone asks what shade it is, which tells you everything you need to know.

ith spring in your step, let’s talk designer shake-ups. Bottega Veneta and Chanel are calling it a day! 80s fashion is back and loud flower power prints are everywhere. Strong shoulders are back and colour-popin capri pants, once known as pedal pushers, are being teamed with wind funnel neck jackets in the coolest colours at Saint Laurent. Coloured dresses over knits, Brussels and giant bows – it’s a total showstopper! 2026 is in the mix.
FAS H I O N / S T YL E Bows and leathers, Saint Laurent 26 collection is my favourite this year. The crisp cotton poplin blouse with its unmistakable Parisian edge is an icon outfit. It features exaggerated shoulders, a low-cut front and a giant bow. I love that the bow can be played around with as shown above. The 26 biker jacket in the most beautiful conker tone has balloon sleeves and fierce shoulder padding. Paired with a columned pencil skirt with an elegant edge, it’s a total knockout!

Prawn Toast Bao Bun. One of the best things I’d eaten all year! The mix of textures, with the crisp bun and soft prawns was unreal. The Lamb Kebab with yogurt and mint was so tender, full of flavour and was beautifully presented.
FOOD
The Cod Loin with crispy cheek and satay was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and without a doubt the best cod I’ve ever tasted. The satay complemented the dish perfectly. The Creedy Carver Duck with pancakes was a complete masterpiece, beautifully presented with tiny saucepans. They were really fun to make, and even better to eat!

And dessert. The smoothest Chocolate Mousse with olive oil, Maldon salt and pistachios. The mix of flavours was divine, and such a surprise. What I love about Open Restaurant Group is how it bring its food to life. I love hearing how its food is made and where the ingredients come from. And meeting the chefs is a rare opportunity which I am always incredibly grateful for. It is very clear to see that each dish is created with love and passion. The service from the team was faultless, warm and professional, with glasses never left empty and always time to make you feel like you are the only person in the room.
