Local golf club fundraise for Marie Curie Hospice MARIE Curie have been nominated as charity of the year at Woolton Golf Club for 20182019. The Partnership, which started back in March has seen some fantastic fundraising efforts from the club so far and there are plenty more events planned for the remainder of the year. So far the club have raffled off the Presidents car parking space, held a Tea Party and a dinner. Fiona Marsden, the Lady Captain and Robert Owen, the President came into the hospice to present the first donation to the charity. Fiona Marsden, the Lady Captain at the Golf Club said “I’m aware of the fantastic job Marie Curie does and that it’s fully deserving of the support of the golf club. “I wanted to raise funds so that they can continue with the excellent work they do in providing care for people living with a terminal illness and their families. We are lucky to have the Hospice in our local community.” The £1170 donation that Marie Curie received from the golf club will help the charity to continue providing it’s vital
services in the local community. For every £20 raised Marie Curie can provide one hour of nursing care to a person living with a terminal illness. Local Marie Curie Fundraiser Jessica Herrington said “I’d like to say a big thank you to the Woolton Golf Club for nominating Marie Curie as this year charity and to all the members of the club for the generosity and really getting behind the fundraising so far. Marie Curie are extremely grateful for the support of local organisation like the Woolton Golf Club as it means we can continue to provide care and services to the community.” The Golf Club are planning a Fashion show later this year, amongst other events to help continue fundraising for the hospice. n If you’re interested in nominating Marie Curie as Charity of the Year or would like to find out more about our services or fundraising, please contact Jessica Herrington on 0151 801 1405 or Jessica.Herrington@mariecurie. org.uk.

Rooms on the move By Stephen Guy
ARCHITECTURAL salvage involves recycling bits of old buildings – and sometimes whole structures – and moving them elsewhere. This continues to this day but at one time it was very big business, particularly with old British buildings being pillaged on a huge scale. Much of the historic material went to the United States. Thankfully since about 1970 there has been much greater protection of our heritage. More than 1,500 great historic houses were demolished and their interiors dispersed in the period after 1885. These include more than 135 early Tudor houses. At least 4,000 chimney pieces – elaborate centrepieces for many a lost room – were sold off as part of the vigorous trade in British interior elements. They were often snapped up by wealthy Americans such as William Randolph Hearst (1863 –
1951), the newspaper baron. With an annual income of $15 million, Hearst went on a massive spending spree, importing countless purchases into a fivestorey warehouse in New York. His buys included not only whole rooms but many artworks from shoe buckles to armour, furniture to paintings. Most ended up in his many homes. Thirty tons of architectural salvage even went down with
the Titanic. Sold to a wealthy American, the cache of old oak beams, doors and other material were shipped by a London dealer. For a graphic insight into how we once abandoned our heritage, visit the ruins of Sutton Scarsdale Hall near Chesterfield, Derbyshire. Visitors can walk through room after room of this stripped empty shell and see only stark stone walls and crumbling plaster. Some of the decorative features ended

up in the Philadelphia Museum. Until the 1950s Deysbrook Hall was one of the West Derby’s outstanding great houses. One of its magnificent rooms is pictured when it was used as a hospital. Unfortunately, the Hall was later occupied by the military and badly treated. Before it was demolished, several of the magnificent ceilings were removed and put into store in Liverpool where they remain packed in huge crates. They feature work by Alfred Stevens (1817 – 75), probably the finest draughtsman and decorative painter that England has ever produced. Stevens was assisted by three artists – they lodged at a nearby inn, thought to be the Derby Arms on the site of West Derby Medical Centre. n Join the West Derby Society at its next meeting 7.30 pm on Wednesday 19 September at Lowlands, 13 Haymans Green, Liverpool L12 7JG.

South rebuild for new season By Jim Stanway
AFTER a difficult close season in which South Liverpool FC lost many of their West Cheshire League first division winners squad, South start the new season with confidence after an influx of younger players hungry to retain the league championship. Having scheduled a very tough pre-season friendly programme involving five games against clubs from higher up the pyramid, the new look first team squad have acquitted themselves superbly with three draws, one win and only one defeat. In the opening game against Cymru Alliance highflyers Holywell Town, the match could have gone either way but ended goalless with South having two excellent chances to win the game in the dying seconds. The second match against Litherland Remyca, recently promoted to the first division of the North West Counties League, was a goal-fest in which South held the lead until the final seconds. Goals from captain Cameron Dalton and two from
the returning Sharif Yusuf saw an entertaining game end 3-3. Against North West Counties League second division outfit Ashton Town, another 3-3 draw ensued with two goals from the fleet-footed Sharif Yusuf although a 3-1 interval lead was thrown away in the second half. Against newly promoted Vauxhall Motors, South produced a battling performance and 2
goals from Carl Hill and Paul Lundon saw South hold a 2-0 lead until the last few minutes when the Motormen pulled one goal back. Despite hitting the post and crossbar South were beaten 2-0 by a powerful Bootle FC outfit, front runners for the North West Counties First Division title, but turned in an impressive performance. The final pre-season friendly saw
the team brush aside Liverpool Count Premier League team South Sefton Borough 5-2 with 2 goals on his debut for Danny Bulayima, 2 for Danny Ventre and one for Scott Corner. The reserves have played fewer friendlies but look in fine fettle. After a 3-0 defeat to Vauxhall Motors Reserves, the team have found their scoring boots with a 9-0 demolition of Helsby and a 4-1 win over Liverpool County Premier League Premier Division team, AFC Liverpool Reserves, with 2 goals by Neil Roach and Bobby Murphy and a double from Graeme Long, coming on as substitute for his first appearance for the club. The club will be moving to the new complex on Jericho Lane but completion of the facility has been put back to the end of October. n The club’s ladies team are looking for a manager/coach and anyone interested can contact club secretary Jim Stanway on 07566 248126 or email: stanway. jim@mail.com
Designers have done well with this Toyota model By Tim Saunders LONG journeys are the best way of putting a vehicle through its paces, I find. On a short jaunt seats have little chance to prove themselves and cruise control can’t usually be activated. So a trip to Bath for the futuristic Toyota CH-R should highlight strengths and weaknesses. For looks, this compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) scores highly. It has a chunky, masculine front and an eye-catching rear. A designer’s job is increasingly tough but they’ve done well here; even if it does look similar to the rather more staid Honda HR-V from the side. Both share the hidden rear door handles that mislead the eye into thinking it’s a three-door. The children don’t like this because they can’t reach them. They seem a little flimsy, too. Keyless entry is helpful but this only works when opening the front doors. To the driver of a 16-year-old Ford Fiesta where there are pleasingly few blindspots, the CH-R takes a bit of getting used to but thanks to the reversing
camera, life is not too difficult. I’ve booked parking on a driveway and it’s a fairly tight spot meaning that I can only park head on. If I want to reverse into the space I must reverse down the long driveway. I’m not brave enough to do this at night but I do tackle it with success in the morning. Nevertheless it does feel a bit cumbersome and the turning circle is larger than I would hope. Its high ride height is enjoyable, providing a good view of the road ahead – probably most noticeably on approaching Bath itself,
travelling from the top of the hill that takes you down into the city. Here there is a panoramic view of Georgian splendour. My wife wants to fold the central information panel away because it annoys her. And trust me, annoying her is not a good idea. That said the satellite navigation is easy to use and it works. But we can’t figure out how to turn the radio off to listen purely to the navigation instructions. Driver and front passenger get plenty of space but the overall dashboard design is a bit ‘boxy’. There’s a
bit too much black plastic for my liking and I’m not a great fan of the electric blue strip that runs across the dash. With its six-speed manual gearbox it is a surprise to learn that the engine is a 1.2-litre petrol unit. It seems to be quite efficient, though, travelling to Somerset and back to Hampshire on less than half a tank. Cruise control, which also monitors the distance of the car in front, braking and accelerating accordingly, aids frugality while the turbo boosts performance. Cruise is cancelled out at speeds below 25mph. When activated it is possible to change between gears without cruise control stopping. This is useful, some systems don’t work like this. There’s quite a decisive gearbox, too. n FACTS AT A GLANCE: Toyota CH-R 1.2-litre Dynamic Turbo Petrol Icon Price: from £27,095 0-60mph: 10.9secs Top speed: 118mph Power: 116bhp Economy: 44 to 47mpg Watch the video at www. testdrives.biz

Celebrity article – Ray Winstone By Tim Saunders SUCCESSFUL English film and television actor Ray Winstone is renowned for his troubled hard man roles. Most recently he has been working on a film about the Hatton Garden robbery with Michael Caine and Jim Broadbent, due for release this year. Aged 12, Ray joined the Repton Amateur Boxing Club. Over the next 10 years he won 80 out of 88 bouts. He was London schoolboy champion on three occasions, fighting twice for England. Boxing provided a firm grounding when tackling his acting career: “If you can get in a ring with 2,000 people watching and be smacked around by another guy, then walking onstage isn’t hard,” he told boxrec.com. Deciding to pursue drama, Winstone enrolled at the £900 a term Corona Stage Academy in Hammersmith. Little did he anticipate that this would be the start of a career that would see him becoming the darling of ITV. He landed his first major role in What a Crazy World at the Theatre Royal, Stratford and his allegedly poor singing and dancing in this production apparently led his usually supportive father to say “Give it up, while you’re ahead”! One of his first TV appearances came in the 1976 ‘Loving Arms’ episode of
ITV’s The Sweeney starring alongside John Thaw. He played a minor part as an unnamed young thug and was credited as Raymond Winstone. His role in Scum, the 1979 crime anda mould dramaCause aboutdamp life inside borstal pigeon holed problemfurther for your Ray into acountless roles as a tough or

violent man. However, he does have a softer side as seen in Martha, Meet Frank, Daniel and Laurence where he played a comic part. In Fanny and Elvis he played the romantic lead. But it was his portrayal of King Henry VIII in the 2003 hit ITV series that won him a whole new audience. It took him weeks of tough physical training to get in shape: “People always think of Henry as this fat bloke, but in his younger days he was very fit,” Ray told the Radio Times. “So I was on a special diet to get my weight down.” In 2005, he appeared opposite Suranne Jones in Vincent, the ITV drama about a team of private detectives. He provided the voice for Mr. Beaver in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Ray then appeared in Martin Scorsese’s 2006 film The Departed as Mr. French, an enforcer to Jack Nicholson’s Irish mob boss. Five years later Ray starred in The Hot Potato, a comedy thriller about two men who come into possession of a lump of uranium. The film, which is set in the East End of London in the 1960s, also stars Jack Huston, Colm Meaney and David Harewood as well as Ray’s eldest daughter Lois Winstone. In 2015, Ray played the role of ex-criminal Jimmy Rose in The Trials of Jimmy Rose, a three-part drama for ITV. Married since 1979, Ray has three children.

The Lottery winners... By Anton Valdemart
WILLIE and Fred were jubilant – they had scooped £5 million in the lottery using numbers based on their birthdays. They had known each other since primary school, living on opposite sides of the road in a drab district known as The Smellies because of its close proximity of a pie factory. Now it was time to push the boat out – literally. They bought a big yacht and entertained family and friends at the marina before going for a sail to the Isle of Man. The two, like countless others, had often talked about what they’d do with the money if they were successful. Willie’s choice was the yacht while Fred’s choosing was linked – as always – to his stomach. “I’m going to have lobster every day,” he announced. Willie didn’t expect his friend to make his dream a reality but it started when they celebrated the
win. Top caterers prepared a cold collation of fresh fruit, canapés and lobster washed down with champagne. Lobster was then permanently on Fred’s menu. He persuaded Willie to abandon life ashore and they moved on to the yacht permanently and their houses rented out. Fred said his contribution would be to supply the food. “We will live off the sea’s bounty,” he declared. Willie knew what this meant – lobster
morning, noon and night. Fred, a keen fisherman since childhood, caught them himself. The yacht – appropriately named Lottery – towed a rowing boat loaded with lobster pots. These were baited and dropped on lines to the rocky seabed where they lay among the sea urchins, occasionally examined by curious seals. The yacht hove-to off the Calf of Man and Fred eagerly collected his pots from the crystal-clear depths as puffins swooped overhead. Willie helped him haul them aboard the yacht watched by Dolly and Daisy, the friends’ devoted dogs. A huge covered tank had been constructed in the stern. The lobsters were carefully removed from the pots and placed in the tank to keep them alive ready for cooking. It was a year after the lottery win and Willie and Fred had got into a pleasant routine wandering around the Irish Sea. Then the
storm broke. Huge waves crashed over the yacht despite being anchored in a rocky cove. It went on all night. The Lottery pitched one way then the next, plunging and twisting as the sea boiled. Dolly and Daisy howled in their kennels. Willie sat smoking his pipe but Fred was down below being violently sick. He would have cheerfully died if given the option. His mind was filled with fiendish giant lobsters crawling all over him, their powerful claws tearing at his innards. Eventually the storm blew itself out and the yacht floated on a calm, glass-like sea. Fred looked wistfully into the tank. He carefully lifted each lobster, examined it closely... then threw the crustacean over the side. “I never want to see another lobster again,” he spluttered. n Read my next Strange Tale – I’ll Make You a Star - in the October Link.

A blanket approach to the giants... AN enormous picnic blanket is going to be created by youngsters across Liverpool and Wirral to form part of October’s Giant spectacular. Thousands of children from the two areas will become Dream Catchers as they prepare for Liverpool’s Dream which takes place from 4-7 October. Students, ranging from the ages of three to 16, will be encouraged to think about their own dreams – what their hopes are for their own future and that of their family and friends, what do they envisage for the place they call home, and what they dream will be their legacy for future generations. This will then inspire the design of an enormous picnic blanket which will form part of the show when it visits Princes Park and the New Brighton area. Those who have taken part in the creation will be invited to attend a picnic in October, and they may be joined
by a guest with a Giant appetite. As well as the picnic blanket, those involved will be invited to capture their dreams by designing their own t-shirts, football shirts or pyjama tops. These tops will be exhibited in a prime position in both Liverpool and New Brighton during the event, and will remain on display until the end of October.

Ditch the scales EVERY now and again I get a message from a client, feeling distressed, because they’ve not lost any weight or they’ve put weight on. Although they may be feeling a lot better within themselves, and they’ll list other benefits that they’ve had, they can be disheartened as they’ve not lost the weight they’d hoped. From my experience, when a client starts a program, or maybe if you’ve started some kind of exercise program, it can be pretty easy at the start to get an initial weight loss.
If, however, a client has been doing some resistance work with me, or maybe you’ve been doing some resistance work on a program, the weight loss can be minimal or in some cases can go
up a bit. Therefore, it’s vital (and I say this all the time) that you take your measurements at the start of a program. There’ll be times when your weight will fluctuate and it can start to affect your motivation towards your desired outcome. Keeping an eye on measurements will give you a truer reading on what’s actually going on with your body shape, while helping to keep you focussed and motivated towards your goal... So ditch the scales!

History in the making Young people get a blast from the past with city heritage trail LIVERPOOL’s young people are on a quest to unlock the secrets of some of city’s most iconic buildings. It’s a walk through the corridors of history to find hidden gems and long-forgotten stories… And while it may sound like the plot of a Hollywood movie, it’s actually all part of an exciting new project to find city’s very own Young Heritage Champions. Throughout this week young people aged between 14 and 19 will be taking part in a series of workshops, tours and practical sessions all aimed at giving them a greater appreciation of the city’s rich heritage. The Young Heritage Champions (YHC) project is being spearheaded by Liverpool City Council’s Mayoral Lead for Heritage, Cllr Alice Bennett who has recruited the young people from schools and youth groups. Cllr Bennett said: “This is a four day programme that will take the young people on a journey through the city’s heritage. During the sessions and tours they will be learning about the history of some of our most prestigious buildings. They will be looking at the architecture and design and learning more about the various artworks on display. We will also be giving them a chance to hone their photography skills by capturing the events on camera as well as their art and design skills.” “The young people will be encouraged to think of the future of the city for the next 100 years and how to preserve its heritage as we move into the future.” The week kicked off at St George’s Hall where the young time travellers will get a grounding on the stunning Minton Tiled Floor. They will also look at buildings at risk across the city to give them an understanding of
Lord Mayor of Liverpool Cllr Christine Banks welcomes the Young Heritage Champions to St George’s Hall. Pictured with the mayor are Youth worker Gill Deakin, Abbie Daniels, 13, Faith McCabe, 17, Lucy Nuttall, 14, Cllr Alice Bennett, Rebekka Hughes, 16, Daniel Hinnigan, 15, and Yaman Awaza, 15.
conservation and preservation. The week will include an introduction to Liverpool’s World Heritage Site, a look inside the town hall, St Luke’s Church and the Georgian Wellington Rooms, Mount Pleasant. The young people will be given the chance to contemplate the relevance and importance of heritage to their generation and look at how they would use their new found skills to re-design where they live. The young people come from all over Liverpool but all share a passion for their city. Heritage Champion Faith McCabe, 17, from West Derby, said: “I am really pleased to be taking part in this event. It’s a chance for us to find out more about some of the wonderful buildings and places in Liverpool. “Our heritage is something I think is often overlooked by young people but I think it’s really important that we learn all about it.” Whilst Yaman Awaza, 15, from Knotty Ash, added: “It’s a great learning experience. Not only will we be learning about the city but we will getting to grips with some new skills as well. It will be good to pass this knowledge
on to other people as part of our heritage champion roles.” At the end of the project the young people will be asked to compile their own portfolios of photographs, designs and writing. Each will then be presented with a special certificate by Deputy Lord Mayor of Liverpool Cllr Peter Brennan before being officially hailed as Young Heritage Champions. Cllr Bennett, added: “The reason I started this is because decision makers tend to be older and usually male who at the most come up with 15 year plans. This programme gives a voice to young people to help them think about how they can influence decision making and the shape of the city over the next 100 years. “Heritage is an area that is often overlooked for young people but we believe it is vital that they learn more about it and become passionate about the past. “Young people are the future of the city so it is only right that they become the custodians of its past.” n For more information on Liverpool’s World Heritage site visit: www.liverpool.gov.uk/

NHS mental health awareness tips
THE 10th September sees World Suicide Prevention, but what signs should you look out for to help yourself or someone else who could be experiencing mental health issues: n Feeling down n Stress n Anxious and panicky n Angry n Winter blues Try these six tips to help you be happier, more in control, and able to cope better with life’s ups and downs: Manage your stress levels If you have a lot of stress in your life, find ways to reduce it, such as learning a few timemanagement techniques or talking to your boss about changing your working hours. Introduce regular exercise and time to yourself. These are positive changes. Taking control of your time in this way can effectively reduce stress. If you have feelings of anxiety along with your stress, breathing techniques can help. Use humour and enjoy yourself Try to see the funny side of situations and you’ll often be able to cope better. Jokes have a way of making worries seem less important. Doing things that you enjoy is also good for your emotional wellbeing. Simple activities like watching sports with a friend, having a soak in the bath, or meeting up with friends for coffee can all improve your day. Doing something you’re good at, such as
cooking or dancing, is a good way to enjoy yourself and have a sense of achievement. Boost your self-esteem Self-esteem is the way you feel about yourself. The best way to improve your self-esteem is to treat yourself as you would treat a valued friend, in a positive but honest way. Notice when you’re putting yourself down, such as thinking, “You’re so stupid for not getting that job”, and instead think, “Would I say that to my best friend?”. You probably wouldn’t. Tell yourself something positive instead, such as: “You’re a bright person, you’ll get the next job”. Have a healthy lifestyle n Limit your alcohol intake – When times are hard, it’s tempting to drink alcohol because it “numbs” painful feelings. But it can exaggerate some feelings and make you feel angry or aggressive. It can also make you feel more depressed. n Choose a well-balanced diet – Making healthy choices about your diet can make you feel emotionally stronger. You’re doing something positive for yourself, which lifts your self-esteem. n Do some exercise – Even moderate exercise releases chemicals in your brain that lift your mood. It can help you sleep better, have more energy and keep your heart healthy. Choose an exercise that you enjoy. If it helps, do it with a friend or listen to music. Adults should aim for 150 minutes a week.
n Get enough sleep – Around seven to eight hours is the average amount of sleep an adult needs for their body and mind to fully rest. Writing a “to do” list for the next day before bed can organise your thoughts and clear your mind of any distractions. n Talk and share – Communication is important, whether it’s with a friend, family member or counsellor. Talking things through helps you to release tension, rather than keeping it inside. It helps strengthen your relationships and connect with people. n Build your resilience – Resilience is what allows you to cope with life’s ups and downs. Making something worthwhile out of painful times helps your resilience grow. Starting a support group to help others, or making something creative out of bad experiences by, for example, writing, painting or singing, can help you express pain and get through hard times. Do you need urgent mental health help now? See your GP if: n you’ve been feeling depressed for more than a few weeks n your anxiety is affecting your daily life The Samaritans helpline is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for people who want to talk in confidence. Call 116 123 (free) If you’ve had thoughts of self-harming or are feeling suicidal, contact someone you can trust immediately, such as your GP, or a friend or relative. Credit: NHS
World Suicide Prevention Day
French stuffed chicken recipe THIS traditional French recipe comes from the kitchen of chefs David and Bernard in Toulouse, who know a thing or two about great French cuisine and run cookery holidays with GoLearnTo.com to share their recipes and skills. Translated, ‘ballotine’ means a piece of meat that is stuffed with other meat and seasoned vegetables and then rolled, often tied to hold its shape. Not as elegant when you translate it actually but the taste makes up for all that. This roasted chicken dish is a great way to impress guests or put a new twist on a Sunday roast. Ingredients: 1 oven ready chicken @ 1.5kg. 1 clove garlic (chopped) Stuffing Sauce 170g onion 300ml demi-glace 200g minced pork 100g mushrooms (chopped) Sage & Parsley (chopped) 100g carrot 40g breadcrumbs 1 stick celery Salt & pepper 1 tsp tomato puree Mustard 140ml red wine Egg to bind Thyme
WORLD Suicide Prevention Day is held on the 10th September every year and is organised by International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and the World Health Organisation (WHO). Worldwide more than 800,000 people take their lives each year, while in the UK and ROI, more than 6,000 people die through suicide a year, an
average of 18 a day. Reaching out to people who are going through a difficult time can be a game changer. People who are feeling low or suicidal often feel worthless and think that no-one cares. Small things like hearing from friends or family, feeling listened to or just being told that ‘it’s ok to talk’ can make a huge difference. Credit: The Samaritians
100g onion (chopped) 25g dried wide mushrooms (chopped) 80g fresh wild mushrooms Bay Leaf Method: Bone out the chicken, make a brown stock with the bones, make up the demi-glace sauce. Place the dried wild mushrooms in a bowl, cover with hot water and leave to soften. Strain the mushrooms and reserve the stock (soaking liquid), chop the mushrooms. Prepare the stuffing, chop the onions, cook until soft and mix with the pork, herbs, crumbs and seasoning. Bind with egg. Spread the farce on the chicken, roll and tie. Roast the chicken 180c / gas 5 for approx 90 minutes, baste occasionally. For the sauce, sauté the onions, mushrooms, carrots, celery, garlic and the softened dried wild mushrooms until soft, add the tomato puree. Pour in the wine, port and mushroom stock and reduce by half. Add the demi-glace, bay leaf and thyme and cook out well. Strain the sauce, return to a pan, add the fresh wild mushrooms and season. Continue cooking the sauce until the correct consistency is achieved.

Ready for my work routine as summer is nearly over... HEY guys and welcome to September’s Life ‘n’ Style! Hope everyone had a lovely summer, I did but I am sooooo looking forward to the kids going back to school and getting my daily work routine back. Don’t get me wrong I love the odd lie in from time to time and even though I moan over the 6:30 wake up calls you do seem to get so much more out of your day. Over the summer we’ve spent a lot of time going on bike rides…and yes I bought a bike!!! Many people didn’t believe me but in-between the glitz and glamour lifestyle I do like to go on the bike tracks and venture out for the day. Luckily enough we had the weather for it. If you are looking for some gym or outdoor activity clothing then the Souluxe range from Matalan has so much choice. Here is a lovely little set I’ve been rocking recently. Starting with the Open Back Sports Crop Top which is priced at £10.00. This is a great base layer option in a lovely nude pink.
I teamed mine with these grey and pink Souluxe Capri Sports Leggings for £14.00 which can be worn with so many other items but I put mine with Souluxe Zip Side Sports Hoodie also for £14.00. This is the perfect throw-on and comes in a nude pink fleece and is extra comfortable for while you’re on the go! This looks nice even over a pair of jeans
I wore this for a little Saturday night dinner date but it’s one of those outfits that can be worn in the day with flats or pimped up with boots as I did of an evening.
and is part of the thicker range. All items are available in store or online at www.matalan. com Whilst I’m on the subject of keeping fit something that I have been loving this month is the non-surgical booty lift. You might have seen this on the tv programme Celebs Go Dating or TOWIE and it’s a must at the minute with the celebs. I found this procedure on Instagram @the_perfect_peach_liverpool if you want to check it out and see some pictures. It’s really good for breaking down the fat cells and helping the appearance of cellulite. I’ve been having the front of my legs done, the backs and my bum lifted. I will do a full piece later this month on my blog so check that out where I will explain what it consists of and the costs along with a discount code for all my readers. September is always the hardest month fashion-wise in my opinion because it’s no longer summer but nor has winter set upon us. So I try to wear outfits that don’t look too skimpy but also not too heavy at the same time either. An outfit I wore recently from one of my fav’s online/Instagram shop @ trussellas_boutique is the Gianni playsuit which is priced at £40.00.
LIFE ‘n’STYLE
– with JADE AINSWORTH www.jadeainsworth gossip.co.uk
Lastly my other outfit, again from Trussella’s, the Lenni maxi dress which is priced at £80.00. This comes in a few different colours and patterns. Being a pink and animal print lover I had to go for this one.
I also bought a blue patterned one for my aunty for her birthday which she absolutely loved so there is a style and colour to suit all ages. Check out their Instagram page for the full range. That’s it from me and I will see you all next month mwah!! x

WIN TICKETS TO... A NEW stage play based on the best-selling book by acclaimed Twopence To Cross The Mersey author Helen Forrester is to receive its UK premiere in Liverpool. By The Waters Of Liverpool is being staged at the Liverpool Empire from Wednesday, 3rd October to Saturday, 13th October 2018. The play follows the smash-hit success of Forrester’s Twopence To Cross The Mersey and is being brought to audiences by the team behind both the musical and stage play versions of the award-winning true story. At seventeen, Helen had fought and won two bitter battles with her parents; the first to educate herself, the second for the right to go out to work. Her parents are as financially irresponsible as ever, wasting money while their children still lack adequate food and clothing. But for Helen, things are looking up as she begins to make new friends and develop some social life outside the home.
In 1939, now aged 20 and with Britain on the brink of war, Helen has never been kissed by a man. That is until she meets a tall strong seaman, and falls in love. By The Waters Of Liverpool has sold more than a million books. Now this is your chance to see it come to life on stage in this exciting new stage play adaptation. n WIN TICKETS to By The Waters Of Liverpool at the Liverpool Empire Theatre 3rd October. Why neutering is important... NEUTERING your pets can be really beneficial to their long term health. It is known as castration in males and speying in females. Your dog or cat will have a general anaesthetic and be home to you the same day. ■ Male cats are less likely to roam as far and get into fights. Castration also stops strong smelling urine and spraying that entire male cats produce. We recommend this from 5-6months old. ■ Female cats are very good at getting pregnant, even when very young! For this reason we recommend speying at 6months old. They will also be protected from cancer and infections in these organs. ■ Male dogs can develop testicu-
lar and prostate problems as they age which can be very severe, including infections and cancer. We can castrate at any age from 6 months old, but in large or giant breeds we recommend waiting until they are fully grown. If your dog is nervous, castration can make this worse so a consultation with a veterinary surgeon is recommended. ■ Female dogs are at high risk of mammary cancer (breast cancer) and life-threatening infections in the uterus (womb). Speying at 6months old (or 12-18months in large/giant breeds) will prevent these problems. It is an old wives tale that dogs need to have a litter! The Vet Liverpool, L11 1BQ
Ted – this dog loves playing catch!
Cat of the month – Meadow sweet LET us introduce Golda. This lovely lady’s elderly owner was no longer able to look after her. With no other family members to care for her she was brought into the rescue. She’s a beautiful, lady about 10 years old just wants a home to feel secure in, it’s very stressful in a rescue environment. She is micro-chipped and sterilised. Can you offer her a forever home? Please call our Rescue on 0151 494 0470 or 07745 167170. With many, many thanks to The Link for their continued support of our charity in helping us to find homes for stray and abandoned animals in Merseyside. We couldn’t manage without you. MURRAY is an 18 month old Crossbreed and he is a happy little fellow who hasn’t had the brightest start to his young life. He’s a little over a year old but has had a few homes already, and is looking for a family who can offer him stability. He’s a friendly lad who can be a little shy at first, but some gentle handling will make sure you are firm friends. Murray absolutely loves toys and will play with them for hours, and loves to carry them on his
walkies too! Murray needs a child free, adult only home. He can be quite vocal when he sees other dogs, but soon calms down, although he doesn’t like them to get too close. His unstable life so far means he will need adopters who are willing to help him build confidence and take things slowly, including paying a few visits to him at the centre. ■ Dog Trust Merseyside Call 0300 303 0292 8am to 8pm Mon-Fri and 9am-5pm Sat and Sun www.dogstrust.org.uk

A1 TAXIS Boss buoyed by 480 7777 Stoneycroft’s DOWNLOAD OUR APP NOW RECRUITING KNOWSLEY funding success LIVERPOOL
ENGLAND Under-19s Head Coach, Paul Simpson, believes funding from The FA’s Retain the Game scheme could help to secure the long-term future of Stoneycroft.FC. The grant, which has been awarded to help aid the retention of adult male teams within grassroots football, will enable Stoneycroft to sustain their Open Age, Vets and Youth Team over the coming years. Retain the Game is a programme funded by The FA and delivered by the Football Foundation. It awards grants of £750 to existing grassroots football clubs to boost their financial sustainability and allow them to continue offering playing opportunities in organised football. Funding has been targeted at clubs that operate with two or more male teams aged under-17 and above, and either currently hold The FA’s Adult Charter Standard Award or commit to
attaining the award within the next footballing season. The strategy aims to encourage more clubs to strive for Adult Charter Standard, with research from The FA demonstrating increased levels of sustainability and player recruitment for teams with this award. Paul Simpson, England Under19s Head Coach, said: “It’s great to see The FA and the Football Foundation supporting participation in the adult male game at the community level. “Affordability has often been identified as a key barrier, so this grant will ease the financial burden placed on clubs and allow them to concentrate on providing access to competitive football. “It is very pleasing to see Stoneycroft taking advantage of this pilot scheme and ensuring that they look forward to a bright future, providing regular opportunities for local people to enjoy the benefits of playing our national game.”
& SEFTON DRIVERS CALL NOW FOR MORE INFO
Money invested as part of Retain the Game will go towards covering core costs - including matchday and training facility hire – first aid training and new Nike kit and equipment through a bespoke voucher. The new scheme has further bolstered The FA’s efforts to increase participation in grassroots football. Earlier this year, they also awarded grants of £1,500 as part of their Grow the Game programme, with particular emphasis placed on boosting the number of female and disabled grassroots football teams. Mick Titherington, Stoneycroft’s Club Secretary, said: “Running a Football Club has become an increasing challenge. At grassroots level many clubs have gone under and been lost to the game. For
others it’s a question of keeping their heads above water financially. “That’s why we are extremely grateful to the Football Foundation for this grant which will be used to purchase kit and equipment which we otherwise would not be able to afford”. He added “We have been in existence for 107 years and we want to continue to provide opportunities for people to play football at this level and it is pleasing to see the Football Foundation recognising the important part clubs like ours play in the future of the game in this country”. n For more information contact: Mick Titherington Secretary Stoneycroft FC Michael.titherington@ btinternet.com 07900915722

West Derby finished in 3rd place by 1 point after a highly contentious draw against bottom of the league Wigan (aided by several Golborne players) which in turn forced a semi-final game against Warrington. The semi-final started as a cagey affair with both teams unwilling to take any risks.
Warrington took the lead just before half time but were soon pegged back by Derby veteran Warren Gradden with a cool finish after a 1-2 off the Warrington Keeper’s pads. The game looked destined to finish a draw but with penalty flicks looming, Warrington stole the ball in the dying seconds and scored to win the game 2-1 and proceed to the final. West Derby were then scheduled to play Horwich in the 3rd/4th place playoff; Horwich however had suffered a heavy defeat to eventual winners Prescot and conceded the game to Derby sending the team for an early shower and an overall position of 3rd – a great result for the club with
those involved raring to go for the remainder of the summer programme. The club is now stepping
up its’ pre-season training as the first push back of the season is now firmly in sight on September 22nd.
