SECTION 2: RECOGNITION AND EXPANSION Fraternity and Sorority Recognition Each fraternity/sorority must also meet the following requirements for maintaining full recognition: • Must adhere to all rules and regulations maintained by the University, including but not limited to the Student Code of Conduct, the Greek Life Handbook, and the appropriate Greek governing council constitution and bylaws. • Must remain in compliance with all Standards of Excellence expectations and requirements. • Must maintain a minimum membership of at least five (5) individuals. Organizations falling below this number will be on probation and given an opportunity to increase their membership before losing recognition. • Academic Requirements: LIU Post will hold the recognized Greek organizations accountable to reasonable standards of academic performance. This will include minimum requirements for active members, new members and prospective members. Chapters/Colonies must maintain a cumulative and semester Chapter/Colony GPA of at least 2.5. All GPA are subject to review by LIU Promise. Chapter and community GPA will be published in semester grade reports. To be considered an active member of a fraternity or sorority, the member must be a full-time, registered, undergraduate student at LIU Post. • Must have a representative at each council meeting, respectively. • Must have a Chapter/Colony Advisor, as well as a Campus Advisor. A Chapter/Colony Advisor is an individual appointed by the appropriate national fraternity/sorority officials to serve as the primary advisor for the Chapter/Colony. The Campus Advisor is a member of the Faculty or Staff that serves as an additional resource for Chapters/Colonies. • Fully participate in LIU Promise required programs. • Must notify LIU Promise within forty-eight (48) hours of any membership status changes. • Must adhere to all University policies and procedures, as well as, all inter/national policies and procedures. University policy supersedes all national organization policies. In cases where national/umbrella organizations or executive governing bodies impose stricter guidelines (e.g., grades, number of members, etc.), the stricter of the two will prevail as long as the University policy will not be violated or compromised. • A student cannot be the Vice President of Recruitment, Recruitment Chair, or New Member Educator or its Chapter/Colony-equivalent, of their organization and serve as an executive board member on a governing council(s) concurrently.

Privileges of Recognized Organizations: Recognized Chartered Organizations and Recognized Interest Groups or Colonies, who are in good standing with LIU Promise, may enjoy the following privileges: 1. The ability to reserve locations on campus for events, meetings, conferences, and programs, in accordance with LIU Promise’s policies. 2. Access to advisement, educations, training, and support from LIU Promise.

3. Approval of event flyers for posting and distribution for on-campus events. 4. Access to the Greek flyer board in Hillwood Commons. 5. Member and Chapter/Colony participation in recognition events, including the Greek Awards Banquet, Student Leadership Receptions, Greek Sing, Greek Formal, Greek Week, Honor Societies, etc. 6. Inclusion of their organization in all relevant LIU Promise publications. 7. The ability to represent the Chapter/Colony at Meet the Greeks, Post Goes Greek Day, Greek Sing, Greek Week, Council Events, Admitted Students Day, Open Houses and Orientation. 8. Access to table reservations in Hillwood Commons Lobby for fundraising, event promotion and recruitment. 9. The ability to recruit and educate new members in accordance with the University’s New Member Education policies and procedures. 10. Ability to display organization flag in Hillwood Commons East/West Cafeteria. 11. Ability to decorate an organization rock outside of Hillwood Commons. Please note that these privileges are contingent upon good standing with LIU Promise and the regional/national office of each individual organization. The Chapter/Colony presidents of organizations not in good standing for any reason will receive written notification by email from LIU Promise.

For a variety of reasons, there are unrecognized Greek Organizations at LIU Post. These organizations cannot hold events, meetings, or act in any way as a recognized organization. Student Organizations cannot co-sponsor events or programs with these groups. Active student organizations that co-sponsor events or programs with unrecognized organizations will be held accountable. Individual students and organizations will violate University policy if they join and/or affiliate with these organizations in any way. Auxiliary Greek Organizations Auxiliary organizations to the main organization are not permitted (i.e., Little Brothers, Little Sisters, Sister and/or Brother Organizations, etc.). Such organizations open the University to increased legal liability, imperil the organizations with whom they are associated, and are contrary to University, National Panhellenic Conference and North-American Interfraternity Conference, Inc. policies.

Community-Based Chapters Long Island University – Post does not recognize student’s membership in fraternity/sorority community-based Chapters/Colonies. It is not permitted for LIU Post students to join fraternity/sorority community Chapters/Colonies. Students are encouraged to explore membership in on-campus recognized organizations.

New Fraternity and Sorority Expansion Expansion to LIU Post is not automatic; the University must grant approval/permission before a new fraternity/sorority forms at LIU Post. The following criteria are the basis for consideration for expansion: 1. Long Island University may only recognize fraternities & sororities associated with a national umbrella organization such as the National Panhellenic Conference, National Interfraternity Conference, National Pan-Hellenic Council, National Association of Latino Fraternal Organizations, etc. 2. The University and/or specific council must be open for expansion/extension. 3. Consistency with the mission of LIU Post. 4. Evaluation of the submitted materials and determination of the national organization’s ability to implement its plan for colonization. 5. Students and/or national organizations who are interested in Greek Life expansion/extension should contact LIU Promise. 6. The University will not consider organizations currently suspended from campus. (Please visit LIU Promise for a complete list of suspended organizations). Un-recognized organizations that function outside the governing parameters of LIU Post are a detriment to recognized student organizations. Participation in sponsored activities of these groups gives them legitimacy, and thereby hurts LIU Post student organizations. Any non-recognized organization acting as a recognized LIU Post organization will be in violation of University Policies. Individual students who join unrecognized organizations and/or act as a recognized organization will be subject to sanctions as per the University Code of Conduct.

SECTION 3: MEMBERSHIP EXPECTATIONS Standards of Excellence The positive experience of being a member of a Greek organization is sustained through the management of a successful Chapter/Colony. The experience should reflect an obvious commitment to fraternal principles and should be compatible with the goals and objectives of the University.

Administrative Requirements

To earn the status of “Achieving the Standard,” each Chapter must fulfill all Administrative Requirements, on-time. Late documents may result in the Chapter/Colony’s ineligibility to earn the status of “Achieving the Standard.” Exact due dates will be distributed to Chapter/Colony leadership prior to the start of each semester. 1. Chapter/Colony Roster | Due at the start of each semester. Chapter/Colony Roster must be up-to-date on Experience Shark Nation at all times. Rosters must be emailed to the organization’s Primary Advisor. a. Membership List The membership list is the main component on the roster. Follow the template when filling out the form. Required information includes: members first/last name, cell phone

number, email, resident/commuter status, student id, Chapter/Colony leadership position, semester initiated, semester/year graduating. b. Chapter/Colony Advisor An active, involved Chapter/Colony advisor is a key ingredient to a successful Chapter/Colony. Each Chapter/Colony must have a Chapter/Colony advisor who either lives or works within the immediate metropolitan area, and who has the support of the inter/national organization. The advisor shall be an alumnus/a of the fraternity or sorority (unless a specific exception is granted by LIU Promise in conjunction with the inter/national organization), should have some form of active fraternity/sorority experience, and shall provide the Chapter/Colony and its membership with continuing advice and support. The Chapter/Colony Advisor contact information must be submitted as part of the Chapter/Colony Roster. c. Faculty/Staff Advisor The fraternity and sorority experience of our members is enriched when Chapters/Colonies become invested in the larger academic community. Of particular importance is developing relationships with faculty and staff who bring with them knowledge and skills that can add to the fraternal experience of members. To this end, all fraternities and sororities are required to have an involved faculty/staff advisor. Faculty/staff advisors must be employed by LIU Post. LIU Promise staff and upperadministration within the Division of Student Life and Student Success cannot be advisors. The Faculty/Staff Advisor contact information must be submitted as part of the Chapter/Colony Roster. *If the Chapter/Colony cannot identify a faculty/staff advisor, submit the roster as is, and notify the campus Greek Life advisor. 2. Copy of Certificate of Insurance/Liability (COI/L) | Due annually prior to expiration Please email your Greek Life advisor for your organization’s date, if you do not know it. Email the updated copy of the Certificate of Insurance/Liability (COI/L) to the campus Greek Life advisor prior to expiration. Each Chapter/Colony is required to submit a copy of the COI/L to remain active. If this is not submitted by the due date, the Chapter/Colony is automatically placed on interim suspension until the document is submitted. The COI/L must carry at least a $2 million liability insurance policy. 3. Anti-Hazing Commitment Form | Due each semester prior to the start of the Chapter/Colony’s NME Process All Chapters/Colonies must complete the online Anti-Hazing Commitment Form to reaffirm their commitment to having a hazing-free Greek community. The form must be completed by 100% of the Chapter/Colony membership. The form can be found online at https://liupost.presence.io/organization/greek-advisory-board. Chapter/Colony members must renew their commitment each semester that they are an active member of the LIU Post Greek community. 4. New Member Packet | Due each semester prior to the start of the Chapter/Colony’s NME Process Only organizations that wish to hold a New Member Process must submit their New Member Packet. Multicultural Greek Organizations must submit their New Member Packet at least 7 days prior to the anticipated start date of their New Member Process. All New Member Packets must be submitted online at https://liu-post.presence.io/organization/greek-advisory-board. Please follow all guidelines provided online. 11

The New Member Packet has various components. All requirements can be found on the submission online form. Required documents include: Ethos Statement, Organization Information, acknowledgement of new member education (NME) rules, Statement of Accuracy, and NME schedule. In order to have a New Member Process approved, 100% of the active members within the Chapter/Colony must have completed the Hazing Prevention Course online as well as sign the Anti-Hazing Commitment Form. New Members must complete the Hazing Prevention Course online within the first week of their NME Process. Bids cannot be distributed to any potential new members unless approved by LIU Promise. A new member education process cannot begin without the approval from LIU Promise. 5. Chapter/Colony Annual Report | Due annually prior to the end of the fall semester All Chapters/Colonies must email the completed document to the campus Greek Life advisor by the assigned due date. This document serves as the Chapter’s/Colony’s summary report for their progress in meeting the expectations outlined in their Chapter/Colony Management Plan over the course of the year. This is a summary report of how the Chapter/Colony met their goals in addition to serving as a reflection tool about these goals. With permission, Chapters/Colonies may substitute documents that they send as a summary report to their headquarters if that report covers items required in the annual report. Chapter/Colony Annual Report can be found online at https://liu-post.presence.io/form/standards-of-excellence-annual-report.

Attendance Requirements

While completing administrative paperwork is important, there are other responsibilities Chapters/Colonies have as part of the fraternity and sorority community. Sending representatives to appropriate meetings, programs, and events on-campus is also a significant component of developing a supportive community. To earn the status of “Achieving the Standard,” each Chapter must attend all Attendance Requirements. Absences may result in the Chapter/Colony’s ineligibility to earn the status of “Achieving the Standard.” Exact dates will be distributed to the Greek Community through the Greek Life Calendar, which will be distributed each semester. 1. Campus-Wide Recruitment Events LIU Promise and Greek Advisory Board host various events that bring exposure to the fraternities and sororities at LIU Post. All Chapters/Colonies must attend each event including the Orientation Campus Experience Fair, Meet the Greeks: First-Year Edition, Meet the Greeks, and Post Goes Greek Day. Chapters/Colonies must also participate in their Council’s recruitment events such as the Fraternity and Sorority Open House, Bid Day, etc. Chapters/Colonies must attend all events to get credit for attendance. If there are no members available to represent the organization, the Chapter/Colony must notify the campus Greek Life advisor as soon as possible to get approval. 2. Presidents’ Academy LIU Promise hosts a leadership retreat for all campus leaders and the governing council executive boards. Each Chapter/Colony and Council must send all Executive Officers to the

retreat – dates/times/locations will be determined and communicated to the organization prior to the event. The retreat will cover a variety of topics including University policies, Title IX compliance, sexual respect and consent, financial information, and more. 3. Hazing Prevention Course Must be completed by 100% of Chapter/Colony active membership prior to the start of the NME Process. Must be completed by 100% of Chapter/Colony new members within the first week of their NME Process. All active and new members must complete the Hazing Prevention Course. Chapters/colonies that do not comply with this expectation will not be allowed to host a New Member/Intake Process and the New Member/Intake process will be suspended immediately. The link to the Online Hazing Prevention Course shall be provided to Chapter/Colony leadership each semester. 4. Council & Greek Advisory Board Meetings To foster a strong community based on unity and support, the Chapter/Colony Presidents will be asked to attend all Greek Advisory Board meetings. If the Chapter/Colony President is unable to attend, they must send a delegate in their place. At these meetings, important information will be discussed, in addition to discussion topics chosen by the community leaders. 5. Monthly Meeting Each Chapter/Colony must complete at least one meeting a month with their Primary Advisor. The Chapter/Colony is responsible for scheduling these meetings and for completing all premeeting materials provided by your Advisor in advance. 6. LIU Post Community Events LIU Promise sponsors various large-scale programs that are open to the entire campus community each year. Chapters/Colonies are required to attend the Long Island Heart Walk and Take Back the Night. In addition, all Chapters/Colonies must host on-site fundraisers at both Large Scale philanthropy events hosted by LIU Promise. Exact dates for these required events and all other community events will be outlined in the Greek Life Calendar. a. Each Chapter/Colony is required to have at least one member serve on each event committee. This representative can be the same person; however, it is recommended to use different members for each event. In addition, the representative should be a member who is invested in the cause. The event committees are as follows: i. Take Back the Night Committee

Campus Engagement Requirements

Campus Engagement is a critical component of the LIU Post Greek Community. It allows for our members to showcase the best of Greek Life to the rest of campus while enhancing the experience of our members. To earn the status of “Achieving the Standard,” each Chapter must fulfill all Campus Engagement Requirements. Failing to meet these requirements may result in the Chapter/Colony’s ineligibility to earn the status of “Achieving the Standard.” All dates must be communicated with the Greek Life Advisor and Greek Advisory Board Chairs to be shared on the Greek Life Calendar prior to the start of each semester.

In order to make the programs meaningful, a minimum percentage of 40% of the Chapter/Colony is required to attend; however, it is recommended that at least 60% of the Chapter/Colony attend each program. Attendance is recorded in the Event Evaluation and is based on the Chapter/Colony’s current roster. Event Evaluation forms must be completed and submitted online for each program. This form can be found here https://liu-post.presence.io/form/fraternity-and-sorority-event-evaluation . Event Evaluations are expected to be completed within 1 week of the event’s occurrence. Events that do not have an evaluation on file will not be counted towards the organization’s annual report or Standards of Excellence Assessment. No programs are to be held after the last day of classes of the fall and spring semesters or during any semester breaks. Any individual program cannot count as both a Campus Tradition, Membership Development, and Community Outreach program. To ensure that our Greek organizations are fully engaging their surrounding communities, Chapters/Colonies are required to complete the following: 1. Campus Tradition It is the expectation of every Chapter/Colony to plan and implement at least 1 large-scale program each academic year that is open to the entire campus community in an effort to establish long-standing traditions. Campus Traditions are typically rooted in philanthropy; however, they can be based on any of the programming pillars listed below: a. Alcohol & Drug Education e. Multicultural Competency b. Community Service f. Philanthropy c. Health & Wellness g. Sexual Assault & Violence d. Faculty & Staff Outreach Prevention 2. Membership Development It is the expectation of every Chapter/Colony to develop the members of their organization. To do so, Chapters/Colonies are expected to hold at least 2 internal programs each semester. In addition, Chapters/Colonies are expected to hold at least 2 brotherhood/sisterhood events each semester. Membership Development programs can be based on any of the programming pillars listed below: f. Sexual Assault & Violence a. Academic Success Prevention b. Alcohol & Drug Education g. Parent & Family Engagement c. Alumni Engagement h. Personal Development d. Health & Wellness i. Values Clarification e. Multicultural Competency 3. Community Outreach It is the expectation of every Chapter/Colony to reach out to other key community stakeholders, including but not limited to, other Greek organizations, student clubs and organizations, and external philanthropies and service organizations in order to showcase the positive impact Greek Life has on its surrounding communities. Chapters/Colonies are expected to host at least 1 co-sponsored event each semester based on any of the aforementioned pillars.

Leadership Requirements

Leadership is one of the core values shared by all fraternal organizations. It not only displays our own worth and demonstrates the personal growth of our members, it also assists in the recruitment of new members. To earn the status of “Achieving the Standard,” at least 10% of active members of the Chapter must hold external leadership positions within the LIU Post Community (i.e. Resident Assistant/Orientation Leader, Peer Mentor, Greek Council Officer, Club Officer, etc.). Failing to meet these requirements may result in the Chapter/Colony’s ineligibility to earn the status of “Achieving the Standard.” This percentage is reported in the Chapter/Colony’s Annual Report found online at https://liupost.presence.io/form/standards-of-excellence-annual-report.

Philanthropy Requirements

Philanthropy is another core value shared by all fraternal organizations. Raising funds for important causes is a cornerstone of our Community. To earn the status of “Achieving the Standard,” the Chapter must raise and donate on average at least $50.00 per member, per calendar year. Scholarship Requirements

Scholarship is another core value shared by all fraternal organizations. Without being a student, we cannot be a part of Greek Life – and, we must uphold the same standard for continuing members that we do for potential new members. To earn the status of “Achieving the Standard,” at least 90% of Chapter membership is in good academic standing; no more than 10% of Chapter membership is on “Greek Academic Probation.” Failing to meet these requirements may result in the Chapter/Colony’s ineligibility to earn the status of “Achieving the Standard.” Members on Greek Academic Probation is provided to Chapter/Colony leadership prior to the start of each academic semester. This percentage is reported in the Chapter/Colony’s Annual Report found online at https://liu-post.presence.io/form/standards-of-excellence-annual-report.

Service Requirements

Service is the final core value shared by all fraternal organizations. Going out and doing good for others is what makes Greek organizations rise above the rest. To earn the status of “Achieving the Standard,” the Chapter conducts on average at least 20 community service hours per member, per calendar year. Standards of Excellence Rankings

Failure to earn an assessment of “Achieving the Standard” will result in restricted privileges. These expectations should not, however, negatively impact a student leader’s ability to achieve academically. Chapters/colonies with fewer than 10 members have the ability to propose reduced requirements if the burden of fulfilling the expectations has the possibility of negatively impacting students’ academic performance. Chapters/Colonies with less than 10 members must provide a detailed outline of their necessary adjustments to the Standards of Excellence Program to ensure that they are at least awarded the status of “Achieving the Standard.” The proposal must be submitted to LIU Promise at least one month before the Annual Report is due. At the conclusion of each calendar year, Chapters/Colonies will be placed in one of the following categories based on their performance in comparison with the Standards of Excellence Rubric. Council Membership Greek Advisory Board: The Greek Advisory Board (GAB) is the student-run programming and advisory board for the fraternity/sorority community and stands to promote Greek unity within the community and the campus community at large. All fraternities and sororities are required to be members of GAB and are represented by their Chapter/Colony President or their delegate. GAB is organized by the GAB Chairs who include the Presidents and Vice Presidents of Programming of the Panhellenic Association, Interfraternity Council, and Multicultural Greek Council. GAB organizes events such as Greek Sing, Greek Week, Greek Awards Banquet, Greek Formal, National Hazing Prevention Week, Meet the Greeks, and Post Goes Greek Day. Panhellenic Association: The Panhellenic Association (PHA) is the governing body of all Panhellenic sororities at LIU Post, and serves as the liaison between National Panhellenic Council (NPC) and LIU Post Greek Life. All sororities that fall under the NPC umbrella organization are required to be members of PHA. PHA is composed of an executive board and one representative from each member organization. At LIU Post, member organizations include Alpha Epsilon Phi, Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Zeta, Kappa Kappa Gamma and Sigma Delta Tau. The goal of PHA is to unite the member sororities and promote academic achievement in these organizations. PHA must follow all policies set forth by the University regarding governance and expansion. PHA also runs and regulates formal recruitment for its member organizations. Interfraternity Council: The Interfraternity Council (IFC) is the governing body of all fraternities that fall under the NorthAmerican Interfraternity Conference (NIC) at LIU Post, and serves as the liaison between NIC and LIU Post Greek Life. All fraternities that fall under the NIC umbrella organization are required to be members of IFC. IFC is composed of an Executive Board and one representative from each member organization. Student Code of Conduct LIU is committed to the advancement of learning and service to society. Its educational mission reflects a commitment to intellectual rigor, social justice, and active engagement of contemporary issues. These principals challenge students to strive for excellence, to become men and women in service to others, to integrate curricular and co-curricular learning, to develop talents through discovery and reflection, and to be concerned for the welfare of each person. To achieve these ideals, all students are expected to contribute, through their words, actions, and commitments, to the development and sustenance of a community characterized by respect, caring, responsibility, and honesty. These characteristics are essential to ensure the rights and privileges of all students and to preserve the integrity of our educational community.

Working together as a community, students, faculty, and administrators help foster an atmosphere that furthers the mission of the campus. Students are expected to adhere to the campus ethos. This expectation calls for behavior which demonstrates the five principles of the LIU Student Conduct: respect for oneself, respect for others, respect for property, respect for authority, and honesty.

Academic Policies Alongside fellowship, service, and leadership, scholarship is one of the core values of fraternity and sorority life. In addition, leaders of our Greek community described “education” as one of their community values. As such, LIU Promise greatly values the academic success of all Greek organizations and their members. LIU Promise compiles and distributes a Grade Report at the end of each semester to all recognized organizations. The Grade Report includes an average of all cumulative and semester grade-pointaverages (GPA) of the active members and new members of the respective organization. The Grade Report includes the Chapter’s/Colony’s cumulative and semester GPA in comparison to their respective Council’s average, as well as their ranking among the Council constituents. All active and new members must continue to meet the minimum cumulative and semester GPA requirements of LIU Promise and their respective organization. LIU Promise minimum cumulative and semester GPA requirement of all active and new members is 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Some organizations may require a higher minimum GPA. The higher GPA policy will apply. All active and new members that fall below the minimum semester GPA requirement will be deemed “At-Risk.” All active and new members that fall below the minimum cumulative GPA requirement will be placed on “Greek Academic Probation”. A list of At-Risk and Greek Academic Probation members from each organization will be distributed to their respective Chapter/Colony leaders. Active and new members on Greek Academic Probation are not permitted to: Participate in or attend Greek Life events including, but not limited to: All Recruitment Events, Sorority Bid Rally or Fraternity Signing Day, Meet the Greeks: First-Year Edition, Meet the Greeks, Post Goes Greek Day, Greek Formal, Greek Week, Greek Formal, etc.; • Hold a leadership position within their organization or on one of the community’s councils • Active and new members on Greek Academic Probation are not permitted to: Participate in or attend Greek Life events including, but not limited to: All Recruitment Events, Sorority Bid Rally or Fraternity Signing Day, Meet the Greeks: First-Year Edition, Meet the Greeks, Post Goes Greek Day, Greek Sing, Greek Formal, Greek Week, Greek Banquet, etc.; • Participate in or attend the organization’s New Member Education Program; or, • Hold a leadership position within their organization or respective Council. The participation of members placed on Greek Academic Probation in internal Chapter/Colony events must be decided by the Chapter/Colony. It is highly encouraged that those member placed on Greek Academic Probation not attend social events. All additional limitations of members on Greek Academic Probation, as well as the Chapter’s steps to ensure the academic success of their members, must be submitted with the Internal Academic Success Plan. In the event that members placed on Greek Academic Probation greatly impedes the organizations ability to recruit new members, the organization may appeal to LIU Promise to allow the individual(s) placed on Greek Academic Probation to participate in Recruitment Events. In addition, individual students placed on Greek Academic Probation may appeal. Appeals letters should be submitted via email to the organization’s primary advisor. Appeals should include any pertinent background information, a plan to improve GPA moving forward, and, any supporting documentation that the appellant deems necessary. Appeals are less likely to be granted for members placed on Greek Academic Probation in consecutive semesters.

Failure to Comply LIU Promise reserves the right and responsibility to take action against any Chapter/Colony/interest group not in compliance with University-related requirements. LIU Promise shall reserve the right and responsibility to levy sanctions as a result of non-compliance with requests for submission of required paperwork and dues to LIU Promise or either of the councils and violations of fraternal practices that are not otherwise violations of the University’s Code of Conduct.

Student Leadership Awards

LIU Promise hosts the Student Leadership Reception. Chapters/Colonies, as well as individual members, are awarded for their outstanding efforts towards advancing the Long Island University – Post FSL community. The online nomination form for all FSL Awards, including Individual Awards, Organization Awards, and Program Awards, can be found at https://liu-post.presence.io/form/fraternity-and-sororitylife-award-nominiation . It is the responsibility of the Chapter/Colony to apply for all awards online before the assigned due date.

It is important to note that only organizations and members of organizations that have earned the status of “Achieving the Standard” or higher, are eligible for Greek Awards.

Program Awards Descriptions Outstanding Collaborative Program of the Year | This award recognizes the organization that co-hosted the best collaborative program (with either another Greek organization, campus club or organization, or outside party) that exemplified the values of Greek Life. Outstanding Community Service Program of the Year | This award recognizes the organization that provided a service to the community and promoted a healthy relationship between the Greek community and the surrounding area. Outstanding Educational Program of the Year | This award recognizes an organization that showed an outstanding commitment to the continuous lifelong learning process of its members and the community through educational programming. Educational programs include alcohol and drug awareness, health and wellness, academic achievement, social issue awareness, etc. Outstanding Philanthropic Program of the Year | This award recognizes an organization who displayed the utmost altruistic behavior with raising funds to benefit a preselected either their national or local philanthropies, or other social causes. ("Best" does not necessarily equal the most funds raised). Outstanding Program of the Year | This award recognizes the organization that held the most successful overall program of the academic year in order to promote the values and image of the LIU Post Greek community. This can be a collaboration, community service, educational, philanthropic, or social program.

Officer of the Year | This award recognizes an individual for the accomplishments and commitment to their leadership roles and the supportive contributions for the success of their Chapter/Colony and overall FSL community.

New Member of the Year | This award recognizes an outstanding FSL member who has been initiated within the last year, and who is involved in not only his or her own Chapter/Colony, but also the FSL and campus community at large. Fraternity and Sorority Life Leader of the Year | This award recognizes individuals who positively represent their Chapter/Colony and the Greek community. Both a sorority and fraternity member can be chosen for this award.

SECTION 4: NEW MEMBER RECRUITMENT AND EDUCATION Recruitment/Intake Guidelines Recognized organizations are permitted to recruit new members and conduct new member education and intake processes. However, these processes can only be conducted during the fall and spring semesters. No bids or invitations of membership can be distributed during the winter or summer breaks, or during spring break. Interfraternity Council (IFC): At the beginning of each semester, the IFC holds an Open House where prospective members can learn more about and meet the men of each IFC organization. The Open House is not mandatory; however, it is strongly encouraged for any student interested in joining one of the IFC organizations that semester. Students can register in advance online (https://liu-post.presence.io/form/fraternity-and-sororityrecruitment-registration-form) or at the event. If a conflict arises, students should contact the IFC 24 hours prior to the start of the event atPost-IFC@my.liu.edu. Bids will be distributed during Fraternity Signing Day through LIU Promise. Students may receive a bid from more than one organization; however, they can only accept one bid. Any student who rejects a bid or does not receive a bid can receive a bid through Continuous Open Bidding periods of the same semester, or recruitment week of the next semester. National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) Each NPHC organization follows their own guidelines for recruitment/intake. NPHC organizations usually hold information sessions during each semester where they will explain their intake/recruitment process. Information sessions are advertised through flyers, social media and word of mouth. If a student is interested in joining an NPHC organization, fill out the interest form. A representative from the organization will contact the student with more information (https://liupost.presence.io/form/fraternity-and-sorority-recruitment-registration-form) Panhellenic Association (PHA): In the fall semester, the (PHA) holds a formal recruitment process that takes place on campus. Students interested in joining one of the PHA organizations must register either in advance (https://liupost.presence.io/form/fraternity-and-sorority-recruitment-registration-form ) or at the first event. Students must attend all recruitment events in order to be eligible to receive a bid. If a conflict arises, a conflict form must be submitted at least 24 hours prior to the start of recruitment. Students may be extended only one bid from one organization, which they can either accept or reject. Any student who

rejects a bid is not eligible to participate in the informal recruitment process in the spring semester; they must wait until the next formal recruitment to go through the recruitment process again. In the spring semester, PHA holds an informal recruitment process that takes place on campus. Students looking to join one of the PHA organizations must register online (https://liupost.presence.io/form/fraternity-and-sorority-recruitment-registration-form). Organizations can hold their own events throughout the week. Prospective students can choose which events to attend and do not have to attend all of them, however students are encouraged to attend as many as possible. Students may receive a bid from more than one organization; however, they can only accept one. Any student who rejects a bid or does not receive a bid can go through the recruitment process again in the fall semester.

New Member Eligibility In order to be eligible to join a Greek organization, students must be a full-time, registered student at LIU Post and have at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale. Some organizations require a higher minimum cumulative GPA. The higher GPA policy will apply. Students must also meet the requirements as outlined by each individual Chapter’s/Colony’s national/local offices. Exceptions:

1. New, first-year students may join a Greek organization if their high school GPA is above an 80% (2.5 GPA equivalent). 2. Transfer students may join a Greek organization if their cumulative GPA is above a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale from their previous institution. Transcripts must be submitted to LIU Promise from their previous institution before they can be approved for a bid invitation.

No bids (promise of membership) may be given out to a student before the student’s credentials are approved by LIU Promise. Organizations found responsible of bidding a student who has not been approved by LIU Promise will be subject to sanctions by LIU Promise.

New Member Education Policies 1. All New Member programs must not exceed 6 weeks. Upon completion, newly initiated members must complete appropriate paperwork in a timely manner, and be granted all rights & privileges of full membership. 2. All students must carry their Post ID on them at all times and must present said ID upon request by Public Safety, Administrators, Resident Assistants, or any staff member at LIU Post. 3. No New Member Activity that interferes with the academic operations of the University. 4. All students must properly identify themselves upon entry to a residence hall, each time they enter or exit. All students must be signed in to the residence hall if they do not live there. 5. No New Member activity may take place after midnight. 6. All New Member Education Processes must prohibit new members from the use, consumption, and being in the presence of alcohol and recreational drugs.

7. LIU Post has a policy of 24-hour courtesy hours. Excessive noise or disturbance is not appreciated. After 9pm, particularly on school nights (and 11pm on weekends), you may receive a sanction for noise violation. 8. No one who is not a current student at LIU Post may participate in any New Member activity, unless the organization receives written permission from LIU Promise. 9. Social probation is considered a form of hazing which is illegal in the State of NY. While one always has the right to choose to refrain from socializing, prohibiting communication is not tolerated. Individuals or organizations found to be practicing social probation or codes of silence will be sanctioned accordingly. 10. Wearing uniforms or “gear” of any kind is considered hazing, which is illegal in the State of NY. New Member pins are the only exception. Individuals or organizations found wearing or enforcing gear will be sanctioned accordingly. Special provisions will be made for probates/surfacings as needed. 11. Probates/surfacings must be scheduled with and approved by LIU Promise. 12. Any illegal activity whatsoever that is the “choice of the New Member(s)” is automatically considered the responsibility of the Chapter/Colony, and appropriate sanctions will be taken. 13. New Member activities must not interfere with a person’s personal living space, personal needs, sleep, health, hygiene, or academic, extracurricular or employment responsibilities.

New Member Education Form The New Member Education Form is an online document that must be completed AND approved by LIU Promise in order for an organization to undergo a New Member Education program.

Hazing Statement Hazing is an unlawful activity that violates the policies of LIU Post. Hazing humiliates, degrades and endangers the mental and physical health of individuals. Although hazing was originally associated with military groups and organizations such as fraternities and sororities, today incidents of hazing involve athletic teams, marching bands and almost any group or association on college campuses. Hazing is incompatible with the LIU Post policy of respect for all individuals and is absolutely prohibited. Hazing is: • Any beating or physical abuse • Forced wearing of clothing *except an official membership pin • Forced confinement • Forced eating or drinking • Forcing a person to be the object of malicious amusement, ridicule or verbal abuse • Binge drinking • Encouraging a person to not engage in personal hygiene • Sleep deprivation • Servitude • Sexual assault or nudity • Creation of excessive fatigue or stress • Abusive tricks designed to subject a person to ridicule

SECTION 5: Fraternity and Sorority Life Housing Fraternity and Sorority Life Suites LIU Promise provides Greek Life housing to the members of the Long Island University – Post Greek Community in an effort to highlight the community’s unity and fellowship. Greek Life Housing is located on-campus in the Gold Tower of the South Residence Complex (SRC). To participate, your organization must submit a registration form by the provided deadline each spring semester. All members participating in Greek Housing must abide by all University Policies, the Student Code of Conduct, and all Residence Hall policies. The online FSL Housing Registration Form is located at https://liu-post.presence.io/form/src-housingapplication. Once approved, organizations will be placed in suite by LIU Promise.

Requirements Greek Life Housing maintains all the same rules and regulations as traditional student housing, including alcohol, drugs, guest, noise, and other policies. Residents must choose a meal plan. Housing will be monitored by Resident Assistants. Non-Greek affiliated students may not reside in Greek Housing. Suite applicants must be members of a single organization.

Rooming Each suite contains 4 double rooms. Students have the option to buy-out the double room and will be charged a single rate. In order to participate, organizations must be able to fill one (1) complete suite. To fill a complete suite, organizations must commit at least 4 students from the single affiliation and must maintain at least 4 students within the suite throughout the academic year. LIU Promise may impose a maximum number of students who may reside in Greek Housing depending on space availability. If at any time during the academic year the number of students within the suite drops below 4 members, the organization must replace the empty space(s) or be subject to standard consolidation policies. Suite Layout Options Include: • 4 double rooms (8 residents) • 3 double rooms & 1 single room (7 residents) • 2 double rooms & 2 single rooms (6 residents) • 1 double room & 3 single rooms (5 residents) • 4 single rooms (4 residents)

SECTION 6: FINANCES Financial Information

Accounts All Recognized Organizations have an account with the University. LIU Promise oversees the account and its policies. Please note that it is the responsibility of the organization to keep accurate records of all finances and share them with the organization and newly elected executive board. Paperwork Student organizations must co mplete required paperwork in order to take money out of their account and/or purchase supplies with their University allotted money. All financial paperwork must be submitted to the Primary Advisor at least three (3) weeks in advance. Do not submit financial paperwork (including reimbursements) to another LIU Promise employee aside from your Greek Life Advisor. 26

Cashbox Cashboxes are available in LIU Promise on a first-come, first-serve basis. Recognized Organizations can sign-out cashboxes from LIU Promise. A student representative from the Recognized Organization must leave their ID card as collateral. Deposit all money into the organization account upon return of the cashbox. Please note that deposits may take at least 3 to 4 weeks to reflect in student accounts Prizes If your student organization has an event that gives out prizes, all winners need to complete the Prize Verification Form prior to receiving the prize. Submit the form to your Greek Life Advisor within two (2) business days of the event/drawing. Organizations must bring unclaimed prizes to LIU Promise for subsequent pick-up. Organizations who fail to submit completed Prize Verification Forms within the required timeframe will lose their privilege to award prizes. Prize Verification Forms can be found online (https://liu-post.presence.io/form/prize-verification-form) If an organization is suspended from campus or closed by the national organization, the University will absorb all remaining funds in their campus account.

SECTION 7: UNIVERSITY SUPPORT AND RESOURCES Student Organization Resources Mailboxes All recognized student organizations have a mailbox in LIU Promise. All mail is available for pick up at LIU Promise, located in Hillwood Commons, Third Floor. LIU Promise may also receive packages sent to the organizations. Please use the following mailing address: Name of Organization Long Island University – Post Hillwood Commons, Third Floor 720 Northern Boulevard Brookville, NY 11548 LIU Promise will notify the organization when a package is received. The organization will have two (2) days to pick up their packages unless the organizations makes other arrangements with LIU Promise. Flyers and Advertisement LIU Promise facilitates printing of all flyers for all recognized student organizations. • Student organizations must have flyers approved by their Greek Life Advisor. Flyers that have not been approved are subject to immediate removal. • Flyers must be requested at least three (3) weeks prior to the event to ensure ample time for advertisement. 27

Student organizations may print a maximum 100 flyers per event. (50 for Residence Halls, 50 for academic buildings) When requesting flyers please indicated the size, number of flyers, and if they should be in full color or black and white. Flyers should include the name of the organization, the name of the event, time, date, location, and contact information. Charges to Student Organization accounts based on the amount of the flyers. Flyers may not be posted in the Tilles Center. Flyers hung in Pratt Recreation Center must be handed directly to the Recreation Sports Office. No student organization may hang flyers without permission.

Organization E-mail Each student organization will receive a LIU Post e-mail that should be checked on a weekly basis. The email address will be post-OrgName@my.liu.edu.

Student Organization (Campus) Advisors LIU Promise believes the advisor of a student organization is an integral part of an organization’s development and success. The advisor should bring excitement to the student organization. The advisor recognizes and supports participation in student organizations for its contribution to the educational and personal development of the students. The advisor should take an active role in the formulation of organizational policy through interaction with its members. **All Recognized Organizations must have an Organization Advisor. The advisor must be a full-time University faculty or staff member (excluding the Fraternity and Sorority life Staff in LIU Promise employees) and employed by the University for at least one (1) semester. It is every student organization’s responsibility to keep the advisor(s) fully informed and involved in all student organization matters. Selecting & Recruiting an Advisor Before approaching a potential advisor, keep in mind to find someone who: • Will have time to devote to your organization; • Will take the role willingly and seriously; and, • Has knowledge or skills related to the mission/purpose of the organization. When approaching your potential advisor for the first time, make sure you and they have a clear understanding of your organization’s purpose, and what requirements pertain to their role, duties, and time commitment involved. Be open and honest with the potential advisor about the types of activities in which the organization may participate and ideas they may have for future programs Allow the person a reasonable length of time to consider the decision. If possible, choose someone who shares some of the same interests as the organization, and with whom the leadership of the organization has previously interacted. The student organization has the right to remove) an advisor at their discretion. Role of an Advisor

By sharing both knowledge about the University and personal experiences, the advisor can assist the organization in the conduct of its activities. In addition, this fosters valuable and mutually rewarding cocurricular relationships between students and advisors. The relationship between an advisor and an organization will vary from year to year and individual to individual. However, the student/advisor relationship can be crucial to the success of the organization. The following list contains possible roles of an advisor. It is important the advisor and the organization communicate their expectations to each other. The advisor should be very clear about the things they will do, as well as those things they will not. Of course, the expectations will vary according to the needs of the organization and the advisor. • The advisor acknowledges and supports participation in student organizations for its contributions to the educational and personal development of students. • Advisors should work with student organizations but not dictate the group’s programs or activities. However, advisors should be frank in offering suggestions, considerations or ideas, and discussing possible consequences. • Inform your advisor about the plans and activities of the organization. The expectation is that the advisor will attend some meetings and will consult frequently with the organization’s officers. • The advisor should assist the group in setting realistic goals and objectives each year and should help the group evaluate its progress. • The advisor should have a thorough understanding of the organizations’ constitution and bylaws and provide interpretation when necessary. • The advisor provides a source of continuity within the organization and is familiar with the organization’s history. In addition, the advisor assists in making sure that officers of the organization understand their responsibilities, as well as, explaining the policies and regulations established for student organizations. • The advisor should be familiar with University policies and procedures and help the organization comply with them. This includes policies pertaining to student organizations at LIU Post, as well as rules and regulations governing LIU Post students. • The advisor may advise the organization in the exercise of responsibility, but will not have the power to control the policy of such organizations, except in situations where such policy violates established regulations of the University or the Inter/National organization. • The advisor should be aware of the general financial condition of the organization, and encourage good record keeping. • The advisor should help ensure that the organization’s activities justify expenditure of student’s time, abilities, energy, and funds. • The advisor may aid in the area of program content and purpose by helping students use their best judgment in selecting programs. • The advisor can encourage the organization to provide opportunities for educational and personal development for its members. • The advisor should suggest recruitment strategies, give direction to the group, and introduce new program ideas. • The advisor should discourage the domination of the organization by an individual or group. • The advisor should be aware of the liability issues (i.e. hazing, alcohol, etc.) and advise the organization to make reasonable and prudent decisions regarding these issues in planning activities. • The advisor should help in training new officers and help them develop their leadership skills.

The advisor should be prepared to deal with major problems or emergencies within the organization. The advisor should monitor group functioning and encourage members to fully participate, to assume appropriate responsibility for group activities and co-curricular commitments. The advisor should be available to meet with officers of the organization on a regular basis for advice and consultation. The advisor should be able to attend the group’s events and must chaperone the student organization to off-campus conferences/events. The advisor must be able to verify activities by signing any documentation required by LIU Promise. The advisor must positively promote the organization and should not speak negatively about the group.

How to Work With Your Advisor • It is best to meet with your advisor at least one (1) day before your meetings to go over the proposed agenda and topics for discussion. • Be open to suggestions and criticism from your advisor. Their knowledge, background, and experience will be helpful in developing solutions and implementing organizational procedures. • Consult with your advisor well in advance of all activities. The advisor has the right to refuse to endorse activities of the organization. • If an advisor cannot attend your meetings, meet with them after the meeting to brief them on what transpired. Advisors can be a great resource; take advantage of their experience and insight. The Organization’s Responsibilities to the Advisor Keep in mind the advisor is voluntarily associated with the organization. It is the organization’s responsibility to inform the advisor of the activities of the organization. • Notify the advisor of all meetings and events. • Consult your advisor in the planning of all activities. • Consult them before making any changes in the structure of the organization, or the policies of the organization, and before undertaking major projects. • Understand that although the advisor has no vote that they should have speaking privileges. • Remember the responsibility for the success or failure of the organization and its endeavors rests ultimately with the group, not the advisor. • Talk over any problems or concerns with the advisor. • Acknowledge the advisor donates their time and energy and express appreciation. • Be clear and open about your expectations for your advisor’s role. • At the end of each semester, evaluate your advisor and give appropriate feedback. Resignation or Absence of Advisor An advisor may resign at any time, but whenever possible and appropriate, the resigning advisor should give assistance to the organization in locating a new advisor. During the time that the organization is without an advisor, LIU Promise will assist the organization identify a new advisor. The advisor should turn over all organizational records, charters, etc., to LIU Promise. Notify LIU Promise in writing immediately if there is a change in advisors. Organizations that intentionally do not have an advisor will be immediately suspended and lose recognition with LIU Promise.

Greek Flyer Board The Greek Flyer Board is located in Hillwood Commons, between the double doors on the entrance on the side of the Great Lawn. This board is strictly for promotion of Greek organizations and events. Each organization is encouraged to submit a generic flyer to LIU Promise promoting their organization (with contact information) to fill any empty space on the board when you are not holding an event.

Greek Rocks Each Greek organization is given a rock to decorate with their organizations colors, letters and symbols. The rocks are located outside of Hillwood Commons on the academic side. Organizations may not choose a new rock unless it is approved by LIU Promise. Organizations are encouraged to redo/touch-up their rock at least once year OR at a time of the organization’s choosing.

Greek Flags Each Greek organization is provided with a flag of their letters and is displayed in the East/West Cafeteria in Hillwood. The flag is the property of LIU Post and not of the organization. If an organization is suspended, the flag will be taken down and stored in LIU Promise for future use if the organization recolonizes.

Image The organization should always hold their members to higher standard than that of the average college student. Members should always portray their organization and Greek life in a positive light. All programming, promotional items, flyers, t-shirts, etc., should align with the values of their organization and the Greek community.

Forms specific to Greek organizations are listed under the heading “Resources for Greek Organizations.” The LIU Promise Organization Hub is continuously updated. SECTION 8: GENERAL POLICIES Student Organization Conduct Policy Statement of Policy

In addition to the specific sanctions listed in the Long Island University Code of Conduct, a student organization and/or individual may face additional, or different, sanctions levied by LIU Promise for its conduct and/or conduct of one or more of its members. Authority LIU Promise is the authority that oversees the recognition process for all student organizations, including fraternities and sororities. LIU Promise reserves the right to take action upon any recognized organization or individual involved in a violation of departmental or University policies. Sanctions In determining the sanction for a student organization and/or individual, LIU Promise will consider the severity of the violation, the impact the violation had on the community, and the disciplinary record of the organization. Examples of disciplinary sanctions for a student organization or individual include, but are not limited to: 1. Fines The University and LIU Promise may assess a fine in conjunction with any other sanction. 2. Probation of a Student Organization and/or Member Probation is a period of review during which the organization/member must demonstrate the ability to comply with University rules, regulations, and all other stipulated requirements. 3. Deferred Suspension of a Student Organization and/or Member Deferred suspension of an organization/member is a period of review during which the organization/member must demonstrate an ability to comply with University rules, regulations, and other stipulated requirements. During the period of the deferred suspension, if the organization is responsible of violating another University rule or an order of a disciplinary body or administrative hearing officer, then the organization, its registration, privileges, and chapter status, are suspended. Members are subject to increased sanctions applied by LIU Promise. 4. Suspension of Recognition/Organization Privileges A student organization’s privileges, status, and recognition may be limited or suspended for a specified time. Upon the end of the suspension and before a group returns, students may submit a petition to LIU Promise, which demonstrates in a sufficient manner, the following: a. The issues leading to the organization's suspension have been remedied; b. Those wishing to revive the organization's status understand the University's policies and procedures and are willing to and capable of following them; c. The organization and its members have complied with the suspension, have not engaged in conduct aimed at ignoring or frustrating the suspension; and, d. Have committed no intervening violations of the Code of Conduct. 5. Terms of Suspension In the event of suspension of a student organization from the University, the organization may not do the following during the term of the suspension: a. Recruit members; b. Engage in social functions of any type; c. Use University buildings, facilities, property, and equipment; d. Use University resources, services, or funds; e. Participate or attempt to participate as an organization in any University event; or, f. Co-sponsor or participate as an organization in another recognized organization’s activities.

In a case where a violation has been found but no suspension has been imposed upon the offending student organization or individual, any one or more of the privileges set forth above may be suspended. 6. Removal from Leadership Positions LIU Promise may remove students from leadership positions if found responsible for improper actions or violation of University policy. Formal Complaint Process Initiation of a Case Against Student Organizations: LIU Promise may be referred a case from any source. Anyone filing a report should be able to provide supporting evidence that a violation of University policy has occurred. Conduct Policies Any action by a member of or members of a formally recognized (or one that has applied for membership) student organization, casting an unfavorable reflection on their respective student organization, or LIU Post as a whole, may be considered to be sufficient reason for a conduct case. LIU Promise conducts all cases. All conduct cases shall come under the heading of one or any combination of the following: 1. Violation of the Long Island University Code of Conduct. 2. Violation of the policies in the Student Organization Manual.

Event Planning and Policies Event Planning Student Organizations must adhere to following guidelines. Schedule all meetings and events in advance using the event request form found online https://liu-post.presence.io/form/event-registration-1 •

Submit all event/meeting/tabling requests at least Three weeks prior to the event date; no exceptions. Please be aware that every event is unique and this is a broad guideline. In some instances, an event will require more approval and materials, so plan accordingly and allow for even more time. Events funded by SGA allocations must be open to all students. Student organizations may not fund a departmental or University event (i.e. a student organization budgets may not fund a departmental banquet). Room Reservation Cancellations: If an organization needs to cancel a reserved space, contact your respective Primary Advisor at least three (3) business days prior to the event. If an organization does not cancel within the allotted time, the organization budget will be charged for the entire cost of the event. Repeat offenders may be ineligible to reserve a space for a future event or host any planned events for the following two (2) weeks.

Special Notes regarding the Pratt Recreation Center • Requests are approved on a first come, first serve basis, with the understanding that Athletics, Physical Education, or a contracted, outside vendor has priority.

Depending on the type of event, the gymnasium floor may need to be covered using a tarp. Tarping the floor takes three (3) hours, and the sponsoring organization will be responsible for all costs. Lights in gymnasium are either ON or OFF – they cannot be dimmed. Lights require 25 minutes to turn on. No balloons may be used in the Pratt Recreation Center during any events. Additional building staff may be required for events and the sponsoring organization will be responsible for all affiliated costs.

Suggested Vendors LIU Promise approves all vendors. Paperwork for all vendors is due at least six (6) weeks prior to the event date. Students and advisors do not have the authority to enter into a contract with any vendor. Vendor/speaker contracts must be facilitated with the organization’s Greek Life Advisor and LIU Promise. LIU Promise has recommends for vendors. These vendors are already on file and therefore, will make the event planning process easier. Please understand an organization may use any vendor; however, they will be required to submit necessary tax paperwork and information. Contact your Primary Advisor for more information. Off-Campus Programs Student Organizations may hold events off-campus, such as, service trips, Broadway shows, sporting events, etc. Student Organizations must notify their Greek Life Advisor if they are holding a program offcampus at least four (4) weeks prior to an event. Tickets for off-campus trips may be sold through the Campus Concierge. Contact your Greek Life Advisor at least ten (10) business days before sales begin with the following information: • Name of Program • Date, Time & Location of Program • Cost of Ticket • Ticket Limit • Transportation, if any

Off-Campus Trips Each student attending the trip must complete and submit the “Off-Campus Trip Conduct Agreement” and “Travel Waiver and Release from Liability Form” to their Greek Life Advisor. 34

Student organizations cannot host and/or fund off-campus banquets or dinners. Advertising and Marketing Opportunities Copyright Infringement It is illegal to download, distribute, or use any copyrighted material without the permission of the copyright holder. Copyrighted material includes, but is not limited to, music, videos, movies, software, articles, and other written information. This includes any information found on the internet, the library, or an individual student’s possession. Any individual student found using copyrighted material without the permission of the copyright holder will be subject to University disciplinary action, as well as criminal or civil action. The following are advertising resources for student organizations. Please contact your Greek Life Advisor for further assistance on implementing any of the below. • Flyers and posters boards • Activities Fairs • Interest Meetings • Chalking • Social Media • Campus Email • Campus TVs As outlined in the Student Handbook & Code of Conduct, advertisements cannot deface or damage university property. Advertisements that violate this policy will be removed at the expense of the Chapter/Colony. In addition, the Chapter/Colony will be charged for all repairs and the organization will be sanctioned.

Public Safety Policies Public Safety is responsible for securing the event by searching bags, checking IDs, monitoring the parking area, as well as other precautions. Once an organization has completed the program request, LIU Promise will indicate Public Safety needs. Please note that the Department of Public Safety and/or the Director of Student Engagement within LIU Promise may request Public Safety to be present at an event. In addition, an event’s size or purpose may require use of DSS Security (outside agency). Public Safety will be required during the following events: • Large events; • Concerts; • High Profile Entertainers, Public Figures, etc.; and, • Any event serving alcohol. Discuss Public Safety and security needs with your Primary Advisor. Student organizations are responsible for all security costs.

Guest Policy

General Guest Policy Students can host up to one guest (1:1) to any on campus activity where the guest policy is in effect. This is subject to change and at the University’s discretion. • LIU Post students must accompany their guests to the event or the guest cannot enter. • LIU Post students must accept full responsibility for their guest’s actions and behavior per the Student Code of Conduct. • Student guests must be at least 18 years of age. A parent/guardian must accompany a guest under the age of 18. • Upon entering the building all students and their guests are required to present photo identification (driver’s license, government issued photo identification or LIU Post I.D.) and may be subject to a magnetometer detector and bag search. • There will be no re-entry to a venue; all exits from an event are final. Advanced Ticketed Events The Guest policy is not in effect for ticketed events and/or campus community events. • Attendees must be at least 18 years of age unless approved by LIU Promise and Public Safety. • No one under 18 years of age may be present when alcohol is present at an event without prior approval of the Director of Public Safety or designee. • Photo I.D. is required for proof of age and attendee’s will be subject to all search procedures including magnetometer detection and bag searches. • If ticketed, guests must present a printed original ticket with the date and event listed. • Selling of tickets can occur at the Campus Concierge and/or at the door. • If any infractions occur, the organization is responsible. Note: The Department of Public Safety and LIU Promise have the sole discretion to alter the above regulations for any safety and security issue that may arise.

Food/Catering Policies Aramark Catering: If student organizations use Aramark to cater their event or meeting, they should submit the food order when reserving their room. Organizations can submit additional orders until ten (10) business days prior to an event by speaking to their respective Greek Life Advisor. Student organizations who do not order food through Aramark at least ten (10) business days cannot place an order. The student organization must have the allotted budget to purchase food. It is required to place all catering requests through the Catertrax system via their Greek Life Advisor or the LIU Promise Operations Specialist. Off-Campus Food: Student organizations can purchase food from an off-campus vendor. In order to cater an event outside of Aramark, the organization must provide LIU Promise with a Certificate of Insurance prior to the event. Please note that Aramark will NOT provide catering or supplies for events catered by outside vendors.

SECTION 9: LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES Honor Societies Applications for Gamma Sigma Alpha, Order of Omega, and Rho Lambda will be made available to all members of recognized Greek organizations in the beginning of each spring semester. All qualified applicants are encouraged to submit an application. Inductions for all three honor societies will take place towards the end of the spring semester. The online application link is https://liupost.presence.io/form/fraternity-and-sorority-life-honor-societies Gamma Sigma Alpha Gamma Sigma Alpha is a National Greek Academic Honor Society that recognizes Greek leaders who have achieved a high level of academic excellence. In order to be eligible to join, the individual must be a registered student at LIU Post, an active member of a recognized organization, have completed at least 60 credits, have a cumulative GPA of a 3.5 or above and be of strong moral character with no violations of University, Inter/National or governing council policy. New members are selected by LIU Promise’s selection committee. The membership fee for Gamma Sigma Alpha is a one-time payment of $65 and includes your membership certificate, pin and graduation cords. Order of Omega Order of Omega is a National Greek Leadership Honor Society that recognizes Greek leaders who have excelled in the areas of scholarship, leadership and service to both the Greek and campus communities. In order to be eligible to join, the individual must be a registered student at LIU Post, an active member of a recognized organization, have completed at least 60 credits, have a cumulative GPA in the top 35% of the Greek community and be of strong moral character with no violations of University, Inter/National or governing council policy. A maximum of 15 new members will be inducted each annually. New members are selected by the current Order of Omega active membership through a blind selection process. The membership fee for Order of Omega is a one-time payment of $65 and includes your membership certificate, pin and graduation cords. Rho Lambda Rho Lambda is a National Greek Academic Honor Society that recognizes sorority women who have distinguished themselves as leaders in the Greek and campus communities. In order to be eligible to join, the individual must be a registered student at LIU Post, an active member of a recognized organization, have completed at least 60 credits, have a cumulative GPA of a 2.5 or above and be of strong moral character with no violations of University, Inter/National or governing council policy. A maximum of 10% of the total sorority women at LIU Post will be inducted into Rho Lambda annually. New members are selected by LIU Promise’s selection committee. The membership fee for Rho Lambda is a one-time payment of $65 and includes your membership certificate, pin and graduation cords.

Conferences The Northeast Greek Leadership Association (NGLA) builds community among students from a variety of fraternal experiences, challenges members to align their actions with fraternal values, and empowers advocates to transform and improve their communities. Each year, LIU Post takes a select few,

nominated students to the NGLA conference. The conference provides Greek students in the northeast with leadership development skills on how to improve their Greek experience.

SECTION 10: PERIODIC REVIEW All aspects of this manual will be subject to review at the end of each calendar year and may be amended, expanded, or withdrawn as is deemed necessary and appropriate by LIU Promise. (Revised July 2021)
