Methodology: 0- Preparing the workshop. Active Learning. Prior to our lessons, we asked to the class teacher to include in the children routines, some homework related to Bedford Square. In groups, the children researched and prepared a presentation about their findings about Bedford Square. This first part of our project was fostering “active learning” 1- Teaching to observe&understanding your local area ( 2 hours) The workshop started with the children presenting their works about Bedford square We followed with a 15 min talk teaching to observe and enjoy architecture. 2- Field trip We took a walk and stopped by different buildings in Bedford Square, explaining facts and pointing out details in the architecture and decoration. 3-Drawing in class. Due to the rain we had to draw inside the classroom. We made a small presentation about the AA life adding old pictures and games to understand some changes in the square. Children used pictures to conform their own image or impression of Bedford square and their school Targets:Fostering observation, discover hidden treasures in the square´s architecture, learn that the city is in constant evolution, 4- My school in the future. After learning about contemporary architecture and a very brief introduction to types of school buildings, we set a free drawing session. How would you imaging your school and Bedford square in the future? 5- Collaging We printed out their drawings from the first and the second session. We gave a talk about using collages as a narrative technique. We introduced topics such as transportation, sustainable living, energy and had a final debate about their ideas for the future of this area Targets: Fostering creative thinking, imagination, expressing their own ideas trough drawings, writing and collaging.
