I am delighted to welcome you to Little Angel Theatre this season. We have a wonderful array of children’s theatre for all ages. For younger audiences we have two fantastic book adaptations – Julia Donaldson’s bouncy rhyming story The Flying Bath and David Walliams’ hilarious tale The Slightly Annoying Elephant. For slightly older audiences we have two outstanding original productions – Prince Charming, by Jenny Worton, a co-production with Perth Theatre, which tells the tale of a prince who just doesn’t want to get out of bed and Suffrajitsu, by Ruthie Boycott-Garnett, a co-production with Horse + Bamboo Theatre that brings to life the story of the martial arts women who protected Emeline Pankhurst and her fellow suffragettes. In addition, we have eight visiting companies performing on our studio’s stage this season – from a delightful immersive show for babies that considers what it was like in mummy’s tummy, to a show that focusses on both irrationality and rationality in family life for those aged 12 and over. Last season we successfully launched of our new membership scheme, rewarding our regular attendees, including early booking and discounts on show tickets – don’t miss out on these offers, visit our website for more information. We have also streamlined our philanthropic patron schemes. For every £2 we receive from box office income we need to earn another £1 to continue our vital community work. Any donations will be welcomed, and used to increase access to our programme. Our learning programmes continue apace, with holiday classes and after school clubs as well as more advanced adult learning opportunities. Don’t forget us when you are planning your office away day or special events. We offer a unique puppetry themed team building experience and our spaces are available for hire throughout the year.

Fine today ... can’t get out of bed tomorrow. That was three months ago. I’ve been in these pants ever since. It’s a lot of pressure being Prince Charming. There’s all those dragons to fight and kingdoms to save, not to mention being charming all the time. It’s enough to make anyone a little worried. Holed up in his bed, Prince Charming is making a list of his worries - from being struck by lightning or getting stuck in quicksand to the problem of his unfortunate name. Somebody needs to come to our Prince’s rescue.

Adopting an elephant at the zoo turned out to be a lot more than he bargained for as he didn’t realise the elephant would actually come to live with him silly boy! This hilarious story by comedian and author David Walliams is brought to life through puppetry.

Suffrajitsus assemble! Suffrajitsu tells the story of one young girl and how she learns that being small doesn’t mean you can’t change the world. Inspired by the real lives of suffragettes, this is the story of a movement that divided the nation. Suffrajitsus used Jiu Jitsu to protect themselves from arrest and police brutality, and ultimately helped win the fight to give women the vote! Combining original music, puppetry and some graphic novel style ‘Ka-Pows!’, Suffrajitsu shows you that you too can change the world, no matter who you are. There’s no guarantee of a rain free summer in London, but the sun always shines at our theatre. After a popular summer season in 2018, PC Bobby Beat and the gang return for more adventures this year. We’ve given a breath of salty sea air to Punch & Judy… Hang on, someone has stolen all the sausages!! Was it the crocodile with his gnashing jaw? The baby with her butter-wouldn’tmelt smile? Or was it someone else altogether? Little Angel by the Sea is a playful mix of sand play, a puppet show and making workshop – perfect for children. That’s the way to do it! An interactive puppetry experience, where the audience embark on a unique adventure, watching puppetry as well as making their own puppets. In Rise and Fall you’ll meet all manner of balloons from small floating moons to vast bouncing orbs. Forever expanding and contracting, balloons are free to float, fly and sway. Hold your breath and go sailing away. Rise and Fall is a poetic and intriguing performance for young audiences about holding on and letting go.

Sometimes it feels like the town is on the edge of the world. That’s mainly because it is. The Boy lives with his Grandma, forbidden from venturing beyond the shore, but the tall tales of the monsters in the deep only whet his appetite – he stares at the ocean and dreams. Can one unlikely friendship save the Town On The Sea from catastrophe? Join three shanty-singing fishermen as they weave a fishy tale of musical merfolk, menacing monsters and spectacularly bad town planning.

A funny, warmhearted and interactive rustic tale to make you squeal with laughter, bristling with puppets, live music and lots of joining in. Garlic Theatre entertain the whole family with beautifully crafted puppets, music and a garlicky French twist to the tale.

His family is largerthan-life; how did he end up being the only rational one? Above all, he is fed up with his vacuous, half-bovine father and seeks some explanation for such cruel and inhumane punishment. Maybe his father was turned into a cow in order to pay for a mistake made by someone in his family… Éthienne desperately needs to understand. He needs to figure out the all-powerful reason behind this life sentence he has been given in order to make sense of it all. Even if he has to invent the whole story himself.

Make a Play with Puppets in a Week Age 7–11 Monday 29 July – Friday 2 August 10am – 4pm, finishing at 4.30pm on Friday Do you love drama, craft or storytelling? Join us for a week and create your very own puppet and perform with it in a play at the end of the week. Work with a professional puppet director to devise a modern fairy-tale with a twist. You will have the chance to design and make your own character for the show, and learn to manipulate some of Little Angel Theatre’s professional puppets. Friends and family are invited to see the show at 4.00pm on Friday 2 August. All abilities welcome from practised puppeteers to completely new faces. £190/£130 concessions

PUPPETRY FOUNDATION COURSE
Spring term: Mondays 7.30-9.30pm, 14 Jan–25 March or Tuesdays 7.30–9.30pm, 15 Jan–26 March Summer term: Tuesdays 7-9.30pm, 23 April–18 June Designed for absolute beginners, this course is open to all those who have always wanted to have a go at puppetry but never had the opportunity to do so. Explore a variety of different puppet forms and learn the basics of puppet manipulation and making.
Please note that the same course is repeated on Mondays and Tuesdays in the spring term (10 sessions of 2 hours) and again in the summer term (8 sessions of 2.5 hours).

Designing and Making a ‘Theatre for One’ Thursdays 7.30–9.30pm 17 January – 28 March Inspired by her visit to Charleville International Puppetry Festival, puppet maker Judith Hope has created her own unique small transportable theatre which is perfect for festival performances as well as street/busking performances. You will work with Judith to make your own mini puppet theatre show in a box, complete with a peephole and soundtrack for your audience of one person (at a time) to experience a special performance for their eyes only. Create a cast of miniature puppets and changing sets and backdrops. Storytelling, presentation, staging and soundtrack guidance complete this exciting and unique course.
PUPPET SPACE
A place to catch up with old friends, patch up with enemies and discuss all things puppetry related, Puppet Space is our regular, free networking event in association with Puppeteers UK. You’ll meet core members of the Little Angel Theatre team as well as other artists, performers and producers with an interest in puppetry and animation. Free tea and biscuits are provided. All term courses cost £195 / £135 concessions and include a show visit. All courses break for half term in weeks starting 18 February and 27 May.

We can run in-school training for your team on the use of puppetry in educational settings, including making, performing and storytelling. We also run training sessions at the theatre; our next workshops for teachers is on 4 February 2019. Please contact us to book an INSET session in-house or find out more about our in house training.
COMMUNITY
We deliver a broad range of engagement programmes, working to ensure that we reach the diverse community that we are a part of, and that our doors are open to everyone. Examples of our work include a young parents group, community crafternoons and bespoke projects partnering with local organisations — get in touch to find out more.
CORPORATE TRAINING
Drawing on our extensive puppetry training programmes, we offer tailor-made, puppetry focused courses for business. Participants will discover the essential skills needed to bring puppets and objects alive, improving communication, team building and getting to know your colleagues in a whole new way. Delivered over half- or full-days; hosted at the Theatre or brought to your door this is something a bit different for your next team building session or away day. Did you know you could hire puppets from our archive? With a range including shadow puppets, pelham puppets and marionettes do get in touch to see if we can help with your project — if we don’t have what you are looking for in our collection, we may be able to help with commissioning bespoke puppets. Whilst our storage is limited we are always happy to consider donations to our archive, and look to demonstrate the finest examples of puppet making through our collection.
SPACE HIRE
Our original theatre on Dagmar Passage can accommodate 80 people and is the perfect venue for intimate events including performances, presentations and book signings.
