Lisa Heaney

Jen is a top producing listing and selling agent closing over $38M in sales over the last 12 months. She has worked in the Garden City market for 15 years and is a life-long resident of the village, making her a trusted advisor on property potential whether you are selling or buying.

Jen Sullivan
Here’s what Jen’s clients have to say about her:

Jen did an amazing job guiding my family and I through the process of selling my parents’ home of 52 years! She is extremely knowledgeable about the area and knows what clients are looking for when buying a home.
She was able to provide us with recommendations and names of companies that could help with various projects that needed to be done prior to listing the house. Knowing that we could count on and trust these companies, made the process so much less stressful.
Jen was available to answer any and all questions at any time. She truly goes out of her way! I appreciate how seamless the whole process was and how easy it was to work with her. She is very thorough and I am so thankful that she was the one to help and support us. I would recommend her to anyone buying or selling a home.”

This past August, the Garden City Public Library hosted its Tweens and Teens Summer Tiny Art Show. Students entering sixth through twelfth grades this school year painted pictures on miniature canvases during their summer break, with over 50 mini paintings being submitted. The resulting masterpieces were put on display outside the Library’s Tweens and Teens Room for Library patrons to enjoy before school started up again.

February 5, 2025, was World Read Aloud Day, and Garden City School District students celebrated with a variety of activities, such as booknark making (seen above), reading stories aloud together, creating virtual read-alouds for younger students, and listening to authors share thie stories virtually.

Garden City residents serving the community for 50+ years
“Maureen is an excellent realtor! She staged and sold my home very quickly. She is extremely knowledgeable, very responsive, super friendly and confident. I would highly recommend her and only use her going forward for any realty needs! Her negotiation skills are way above par. I was very indecisive and ready to quickly accept an offer — she was confident in her decisions and sold my house for more than I thought possible. I also love the way she came in and staged my house — it looked amazing!”

Hamantaschen are triangle-shaped cookies that have filling in the middle, usually fruit jam or poppy seed paste, and are made to mockingly resemble the ears of Haman, an advisor to an evil Biblical king who attempted to wipe out the Jewish people.

Garden City has been an unofficial “Tree City” from the beginning.
Garden City’s trees had their inception in Flushing. Prince’s of Queens was a famous nursery for several reasons: it was the first nursery that was commercial in the Colonies, (founded circa 1732) a full fifty years before the United States was formed. Also, President George Washington and Alexander Hamilton bought trees there. The Prince Nursery and Linnaean Nursery (a subsidiary) had 250 acres of tree stock that was from around the world. Most people back then preferred English gardens, so most of its inventory was from England, but also from France and as far away as Japan. It provided a variety of shade and ornamental trees and shrubs to buyers, as well as flowers.

He and his staff had 30,000 trees hauled here. Many were rare trees from Europe with some trunks as large as three feet in circumference. Garden City was starting to look like a “garden city” as Stewart had one hundred varieties of trees planted along the streets. They included oaks, lindens, beeches, magnolias, maples, ginkgoes and elms. To plant the trees many men and machines had to plough the tough, thick grasses to get down to the sandy, loamy soil, but within fifteen years Garden City was a pretty, shaded village.
The biggest problem for trees? Horses that were tied to the trees pulled on them, causing damage.

Friends of Music Mission Statement
Garden City Friends of Music (GCFoM) advocates, promotes, and supports music education for all Garden City students.
We aim to:
• Advocate for music education in the school district
• Support inclusive music education programs at all levels by raising revenue to provide state-ofthe-art music programs
• Provide financial assistance to families to rent instruments, and to fund school-sponsored musical events and field trips
• Purchase musical instruments and other equipment for student use
• Promote opportunities for our students’ to share their musical talents with the Garden City community
The Friends of the Garden City Public Library, established in 1952, was instrumental in the founding of our library. Its role is to support and further the library’s mission by funding services and resources not provided by tax dollars and raising awareness of the library as a vital community center.
Members of the Friends are volunteers who serve without compensation. Monies are raised primarily through an annual appeal letter, daily sales of donated books in a Friends area near the circulation desk, two full-day book sales/auctions each year, and occasional smaller book sales.
Patron-friendly opportunities are explored with the help of the Library Director and librarians. Currently the Friends funds programs for children, young adults, and adults: lectures, story times and craft activities, science classes, movie programs. Popular Museum passes, which waive entrance fees, include, among others, MoMA, the Frick Collection, the LI Children’s Museum, Old Westbury Gardens, the Intrepid Museum, the Nassau County Museum of Art, the NY Hall of Science, and the Cradle of Aviation.
For the year 2024-2025 the Friends donated over $60,000 to the library for programs, museum passes, movies, furniture, and so much more.
HelptheFriendsSupport theGCPublicLibrary
Without the financial support of the community, the Friends could not continue its work. We must look to YOU to support our work…
• Become a member through your donation. A solicitation letter is sent to all residents annually.
• Shop at our Book Sale area where shelves abound with gently used donated books in every genre for every age group at giveaway prices.
• Support our book sales, auctions, and bake sales which are advertised throughout the year.
• Become a volunteer.
Donations
If you are new to the community, we urge you to take advantage of all the library has to offer and also to become a member of the Friends. To our regular contributors, we extend a sincere thank you. Together we help our library continue its tradition as a dynamic resource for our community. How to donate…

STEAM programs are plentiful for children from toddlers to grade 5. Two summer reading clubs challenged children in preschool and grades K-5. Recent special programs included the Dancing Goldens, the Summer Reading Kickoff, and the Halloween Parade.
The Children’s and Young Adult Departments jointly host Tween activities such as games, crafts, and more. MISSION
Turning History into Action
The Garden City Historical Society is an essential community resource that welcomes, celebrates, and advances our community’s history by involvement and education.
Garden City has the largest cluster of historic structures of any community on Long Island. The Historical Society has been an outspoken and active participant in the campaign to save, and repurpose for community use, St. Paul’s School, a masterpiece of High Victorian Gothic architecture on the National Register of Historic Places and built by Cornelia Clinch Stewart in memory of Garden City founder Alexander Turney Stewart.
After the razing of the third Garden City Hotel, which had been designed by McKim, Mead & White and a destination for explorers, politicians, commu-

nity leaders and visitors from around the world, residents became outraged that local buildings were being torn down. This led to the formation of The Garden City Historical Society in 1975.
The Society actively fundraises and applies for grants to continue to restore its Museum building, which is listed on the National Register.
Thanks to the generous partnership with Vinny Muldoon, of Old World Quality Corp., the historically correct restoration of the entire facade is nearing completion.
The Museum is open for guided tours by appointment.

Church of St. Joseph 130 Fifth Street Garden City, NY 1150 (516) 747-3535
St. Joseph’s Respect Life Ministry was founded in 1973 following the Supreme Court decisions that struck down laws throughout our nation that protected the lives of preborn children. Over the past 49 years, St. Joseph parishioners and friends have participated in many projects and programs including special Masses, prayer vigils and novenas, baby showers and support to maternity homes for expectant mothers. We have hosted noted speakers and participated in many Marches for Life in Washington, D.C. – all in an effort to restore legal protection to the babies and to defend the sanctity of God’s gift of human life from conception to natural passing. Over the course of a calendar year, St. Joseph Respect Life Ministry provides parishioners and Garden City residents with many opportunities to be part of this wonderful culture of life ministry. We invite all to be part of our Respect Life Ministry. During a calendar year, there are many opportunities to join in this most worthy effort to build a Culture of Life in our society.
