The Village Board of Trustees, at its meeting on Monday, April 6, authorized a request from the Garden City Police Department to purchase software from Jacksonville, Floridabased company Urban SDK, “whose software will provide comprehensive speed and volume data for every roadway within the village of Garden City,” as noted on the meeting agenda. Urban SDK offers a proprietary data analysis, visualization and aggregation platform through geospatial AI, presenting communities with “actionable insights.” The license agreement, as approved by the Board this week, includes the following services: speed data, volume data, collision index, workflows and historical data. Before his presentation, Village Trustee Jessica Tai noted that gardening has become a very popular suburban activity. “You can do a little with just some annuals, and you can pace yourself – or you can do a whole garden with different varieties of flowers,” Tai said. Reilly began by discussing the importance of gardening in
maintaining and strengthening cognitive abilities for older adults, before transitioning into its social and dietary benefits. Gardening is considered therapeutic, as it helps reduce anxiety and stress while benefiting both mental and physical health. “Physically, gardening offers a powerful low-impact workout that improves strength, flexibility and Vitamin D levels. On Monday, April 6, the Garden City Village Board of Trustees held its 2026 reorganization meeting, with three trustees taking their oaths of office for two-year terms. Newcomer Gerard Smith, a first-time trustee and a 1975 graduate of Garden City High School, was welcomed by Mayor Edward Finneran before he was sworn in. Mayor Finneran introduced Trustee Vinny Muldoon, who hails from Galway, Ireland, as having the energy of “seven bulls and seven gorillas” and praised him for his commitment to the mission of the Village Board.
