At the Garden City Village Board of Trustees’ meeting held on Tuesday, February 17, Superintendent of Buildings Giuseppe Giovanniello explained that his staff had prepared the RFP (request for proposals) for the potential demolition of the St. Paul’s main building, following the announcement weeks ago by Mayor Ed Finneran that the village was pursuing information on the cost and viability of demolition. Mr. Giovanniello said that Village Attorney Gary Fishberg’s office was in the process of reviewing the material and verbiage contained in the RFP, and the expectation was that counsel would complete its review and approval by the following week (Feb. 23-27). He also shared updates on the Building Department’s review of paperwork concerning the buildout of Garden City Fire Station No. 2 at the corner of Edgemere Road and Stewart Avenue. Giovanniello and staff were sorting through and answering contractors’ RFIs (requests for information). “We are still awaiting executed contracts to come back so we can proceed with other necessary agreements. I believe so far the plumbing and electrical contractors have not submitted them yet, so hopefully we’ll have that soon. The timeframe is still providing for the project to begin by June 1st, hopefully sooner,” he told the Board. A third item he brought up was the new software the Building Department has implemented: Municity. This has allowed Superintendent Giovanniello and his team of building inspectors to work on revamping application materials, “to make it more user-friendly.” “We are implementing the online portal – our residents, applicants and contractors can actually upload their applications and information in the portal. The objective is making things work ‘paperless’ soon,” he said.
