Jericho resident celebrates 100th birthday

Drucker (D - Plainview) had the pleasure of sharing in the 100th birthday celebration of Mildred Sterns at The Bristal at Jericho on Sunday, June 22. During the festivities, Deputy Minority
Leader Drucker presented Mrs. Sterns with a Nassau County Legislature Citation in recognition of her forthcoming milestone birthday on July 9. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Mrs. Sterns cultivated a lifelong passion for music,
which she applied toward singing for the troops and spreading joy and hope throughout her life. She connected with many community members as she worked in her husband’s jewelry shop and was an active member See page 8

Free pool safety seminar on July 8
The Town of Oyster Bay and Catholic Health are partnering to offer residents a Free Pool Safety Seminar on Tuesday, July 8, at 1 p.m. at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park, located at 7800 Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury. Families are encouraged to attend as children under the age of 15 make up more than 78 percent of pool submersion injuries in the United States annually, with 67 percent of them including children under the age of three. Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino stated, “Nothing is more important than the safety of our children, and to improve pool safety we offer this seminar to with
the goal of saving lives through public education and awareness. We want you to have lots of fun in the sun while always be prepared to respond to emergencies.” Seminar attendees will learn from professionals about healthy swimming, basic first aid, hypothermia, cramping, drowning prevention, basic CPR (not certification), recreational water wellness and EMS ambulance education. Free summer concert series at parks, beaches The Town of Oyster Bay has announced the return of “Music Under the Stars” – a free summer concert series – which kicks off on Tuesday, July 1, and features a wide variety of genres ranging from country to rock. All concerts begin at 8 p.m. unless otherwise noted below. For comfort, residents may bring blankets, chairs and coolers. Performances are subject to change and will be held weather permitting.
