Town launches Back the Blue campaign

Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Councilman Louis Imbroto and Receiver of Taxes Jeffrey Pravato, joined by representatives of the Nassau County PBA, Detectives Association, Superior Officers Association and Correction Officers Association officials. In a powerful display of support for our law enforcement heroes, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board are launching a ‘Back the Blue’ Ribbon Campaign in recognition of National Police Week (May 10–16). This nationwide observance honors the brave men and women in blue who risk their lives to protect our communities, as well as those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Free blue ribbons are available for residents to show their support

to Back the Blue’by displaying blue ribbons on homes, businesses, storefronts, trees, and mailboxes. “This campaign is a powerful way to say, ‘thank you’ to the courageous men and women in blue who put their lives on the line every day,” said Supervisor Saladino. “At a time when law enforcement officers continue to face unfair criticism and even calls to defund the police, it’s more important than ever to stand up and show our gratitude.” “We are proud to live in the safest large suburban county in Ameri-

ca, and that’s because of the dedication and sacrifice of our police officers,” added Councilman Imbroto. “When you call 911—whether for a burglary, a health emergency, or to protect your family—our officers are the ones who answer that call. Let’s show them we’ve got their backs.”

OB Harbor Cleanup Day on April 18

The Town of Oyster Bay invites residents to participate in an Oyster Bay Harbor Spring Cleanup and Marine Education Day, scheduled for Saturday, April 18 (rain date: May 2) at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in Oyster Bay. Co-sponsored by the Friends of the Bay, the day offers volunteers – individuals, families, companies and organizations – an opportunity to give back to the environment by removing litter from the shoreline and below. “Marine Education Day features environmentalists and marine educators offering information on local wildlife, including encounters with some animal ambassadors, interesting ecosystem restoration projects, solutions to tackle marine pollution, a marine vessel restoration project and boat yard tour, and family fun activities,” said Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino. “This event is a great opportunity to help our environment while having fun and learning about our incredible marine ecosystem,” added Town Clerk Rich LaMarca. “From exciting wildlife encounters to hands-on restoration projects, this event is a fun and educational experience for residents of all ages.” Volunteers are invited to participate in the harbor cleanup, which will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The central meeting place will be Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park launching ramps and waterfront gazebo off of Larrabee Avenue in Oyster Bay. Additional locations for the clean-up include Stehli Beach in Bayville and Centre Island Beach in Bayville. Certificates are available upon request for students seeking to fulfill volunteer requirements. In prior years, harbor and beach cleanup events have resulted in 40,000 lbs of debris being collected by volunteers and town workers. Individuals and groups who are interested in registering for this environmental cleanup (pre-registration is not required) can visit www.oysterbaytown. com/volunteerform or call the Department of Environmental Resources at (516) 677-5943.
