Local officials, veterans and Boy Scouts, gathered to thank and celebrate the brave hometown heroes of the Town of Oyster Bay for Veteran’s Day. Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino stated, “We are the Land of the Free because of the Brave. At its November 4th meeting, the Syosset Central School District Board of Education discussed a potential regionalization of school districts, an idea currently under review by the New York State Education Department (NYSED). NYSED recently encouraged districts to complete a “Strengths and Needs” assessment this fall, participate in regional meetings, and discuss regional needs alongside other districts under the guidance of Nassau BOCES. In his report to the Board, Superintendent Dr. Thomas Rogers provided an update on NYSED’s Regionalization Initiative and shared information

from the November 4th New York State Board of Regents meeting in Albany. He referenced a document by Long Island Regent Roger Tilles, who requested amendments to clarify that districts would not be required to participate in regionalization involuntarily. Syosset’s superintendent noted that the amendments Regent Tilles presented were brought into consideration and back to the Board of Regents in December. “The State Board of Regents can not permanently adopt their regulation until their January 2025 meeting, and if they are presented with amendSee page 9
