The Division Avenue Marching Band was crowned state champions in their division. BY GARY SIMEONE It was a first for Division Avenue High School this past month as the school’s marching band was awarded the honor of state champions in their division (Small School 3.) The New York State Field Band Conference competition took place at the Carrier Dome at Syracuse University on October 29th–30th. Chris Rossi, band director

Plans for the Hicksville downtown revitalization project are back on track, with a revised set of budgeted projects. Five main projects are in the works after State and Town of Oyster Bay officials agreed upon a sum of $8.7 million in grant money for infrastructure improvements. The state will provide the money for these open-space projects in the vicinity of the Hicksville LIRR station. Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor, Joe Saladino, said that the projects were boiled down to five main after discussions between state and Oyster Bay officials. “We’re making dreams become a reality with these DRI (Down-

town Revitalization Initiative) projects, which the Town had applied for and were awarded by the state,” said Saladino. “These projects will enhance the area around the Hicksville LIRR station, with beautifully redesigned landscape areas, that will provide for a more efficient and safer downtown space.” The five projects included in the plan include upgrades to Festival Plaza, Station Plaza, the Underline, the Broadway streetscape and the Newbridge Road crossing. Upgrades to Festival Plaza, which connects the LIRR main hub and Station Plaza, will feature a new pedestrian walkway to connect residents and railroad See page 11
