HOMECOMING ROYALTY
Town honors sailing school, constables for saving child The Town of Oyster Bay recently honored Oakcliff Sailing, based in Oyster Bay, as well as several Town of Oyster Bay Public Safety Personnel for their heroic efforts that saved the life of a young sailor. The victim, a teenaged student at Oakcliff Sailing, was rendered unconscious after his vessel capsized and his lifejacket became entangled, holding him under the water. Oakcliff Sailing coach Dylan Whitcraft (not pictured) immediately sprang into action cutting the life preserver away, and pulling the victim onto the hull of the boat. Seeing that the victim was not breathing, Dylan began compressions as they were transported to the dock. Once at the dock, Dylan and the victim
were joined by Oakcliff Sailing Executive Director Dawn Riley, the Nassau County Police Department and Town of Oyster Bay Bay Constables Joe Rodgers, Sgt. Sam Ciccia, Sgt. Mike Rich, Mike Baumann and Taylor Plank who immediately provided medical assistance to the victim. The victim was transported in an ambulance with the Oyster Bay Fire Company No. 1 where he received oxygen and regained consciousness. “Had it not been for the expertise of all concerned, the outcome of this harrowing event could have been tragically different,” said Supervisor Saladino. “I commend you all for your exemplary ability to act decisively and courageously in the face of an emergency; your actions were lifesaving.”
Division High School crowned Joseph Pesco and Olivia Agunzo homecoming king and queen during festivities on September 17th. On hand to congratulate them were Superintendent Todd Winch, left, and Division Principal John Coscia.
Keeping oysters in Oyster Bay
Town of Oyster Bay officials and members of the Oyster Bay/Cold Spring Harbor Protection Committee joined together to celebrate another successful oyster gardening program. In what is becoming an annual demonstration of another healthy and productive summer, officials from the Town of Oyster Bay, Village of Laurel Hollow
and Village of Oyster Bay Cove joined with environmental groups and residents representing 150+ oyster gardens from the North Shore Oyster Gardening Program to clean and measure one final time before placing them in the nearby spawner sanctuary. Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino said, “The Town of
Oyster Bay is proud to work with our residents to keep the oyster in Oyster Bay, making sure our favorite shellfish is not just part of our storied history but a vital part of the Town’s future. The Town of Oyster’s own shellfish hatchery is adding to this effort by producing millions of clams and oysters annually See page 10
