Sand replenishment project underway at TOBAY Beach

Hicksville BOE honors outstanding students At the Jan. 22 Hicksville Board of Education meeting, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ted Fulton began his report by acknowledging 18 outstanding students for the following accolades: National Merit Semifinalist, National Merit Commended Students and those recognized through the College Board National Recognition Program. Hicksville High School senior Kim Widjaja was recently named a National Merit Semifinalist in the 70th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Widjaja is among approximately 16,000 semifinalists selected nationally from an estimated 1.3 million who entered the

academic competition upon taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as juniors. National Merit Semifinalists will have a chance to win a National Merit Scholarship this spring. They represent the top 1% of United States high school seniors and the highest-scoring entrants from each state. Four Hicksville High School students – Evan Chun, Om Doshi, Alyssa Garger and Aashritha Kilambi – were named Commended Students as part of the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. Engineers has been replenishing the shoreline through a dredging project off the Fire Island inlet. Contractors have worked around the clock to pump 90,000 tons of sand back to the beach, helping to safeguard the shoreline from storms and tidal surges while also protecting critical infrastructure, including the main

pavilion and access roadway. “Our shoreline has taken a beating over the past few years, as Mother Nature has been relentless eroding our beaches and putting our infrastructure at risk,” said Supervisor Saladino. “We all know how much TOBAY Beach means to our residents, See page 4
