Jericho Cares steps up for students

For one local organization and its many contributors and partners, the work to help ensure a successful transition — complete with needed supplies — has been ongoing throughout the summer. stylish new backpacks and sneakers to help children step into the school year with confidence. The organization’s Backto-School event, set for Sunday, August 30th, has typically helped outfit between 100 and 200 children each year, ranging from pre-K through age 18. Registered families attend the event to pick up sneakers and backpacks, and children can try on the shoes to make sure they fit. This year, Jericho Cares’
Back-to-School event will be held at New Apostolic Church, 145 Crossways Park Drive West in Woodbury, across from Men on the Move Storage. About 200 children are registered to receive school supplies; however, more could participate, as dozens of names were placed on a waitlist last month. Town plans LI Sound Exploration Day
In cooperation with the Long Island Sound Partnership, the Town of Oyster Bay will be hosting the Long Island Sound Exploration Day. The event will take place on Saturday, August 15, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in front of The Waterfront Center located at 1 West End Avenue, Oyster Bay. This ‘Celebration of Long Island Sound,’ also held in partnership with The Waterfront Center, New York Sea Grant, and NYSDEC, will host a schedule of events including a beach cleanup, boat rides, kayak tours, and bird walks, as well as all day activities such as fishing lessons, arts & crafts, science games, and more. adino stated, “Join us August 15th at the Long Island Sound Exploration Day for free family fun, hands-on science activities, and the opportunity to discover the beauty of our local waters. WWII grenade found in basement Nassau County Police responded to a Bethpage home when a resident discovered a possible explosive device while cleaning out her basement. According to police, at 10:53 am on Wednesday, August 5th a 60 year-old woman called police
to report finding the device. Arson Bomb Squad Detectives deemed the item to potentially be a WWII style grenade and secured the item prior to removing it. The device was removed to a safe location and destroyed.
