Sewanhaka earns honors at conference Sewanhaka Central High School District is proud to announce that 62 Career and Technical Education students represented the district at the New York State SkillsUSA Conference in Syracuse, earning top honors while competing against more than 3,400 students from across the state.

This year, students earned 12 state-level placements, including five first-place finishes, more than doubling last year’s total and building on the strong momentum from the regional competition. Award winners represented all five high schools, highlighting the broad reach of stu-

dent success across the district. Several students qualified for the SkillsUSA National Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Ga., in June. These accomplishments reflect the continued growth of the CTE programs, and the dedication of both students and staff. See page 5

The Town of Hempstead is looking for volunteers to participate in the Spring/Summer 2026 Storm Drain Medallion Program session. This program helps to raise public awareness and educate Town residents that anything entering our storm drains will eventually end up in the waterways or groundwater! Volunteers affix No Dumping and No Pet Waste medallions at storm drain locations in their local communities and mark these locations on provided maps. After a required training session, the program can be worked on at the volunteer’s convenience while following certain weather and temperature restrictions. All are welcome to participate! The project is a great fit for Scout groups, Scout or Award Projects, school/ community groups, family groups, and individual citizens - anyone who wants to give back and make a difference. The required training is offered online or in-person. An Online Webinar will take place on Monday, May 11th from 6PM-7PM, while In-person Training will be held on Saturday, May 16th from 10AM-11AM. Register for training at Storm Drain Medallion Training Registration.
