FP Memorial Day Parade, Ceremony to remember the fallen

SAFE BOATING CHECKS

Hempstead Town Supervisor John Ferretti (second right), Deputy Supervisor Dorothy Goosby (third right), and Councilman Dennis Dunne, Sr. (right), joined with Town Bay Constables to announce free safe boating checks at the Curtis E. Fisher West Marina on Saturday, May 23rd from 10 am to 2 pm. The checks will review safety equipment and registration documents. For an appointment please call 516-897-4100.

FPB, Sewanhaka school budgets pass

Floral Park - Bellerose

Voters in the Floral Park - Bellerose school district passed the budget in voting on May 19th by 638 yes votes to 302 no votes. Jennifer Wesolowski received 417 votes for an open seat on the Board of Education, beating Jacqueline Klein, who received 427

votes. A second proposition also passed, which would change the manner in which candidates for the Board of Education are elected. Instead of running for individual seats all candidates would appear together on the ballot and the top vote-getters would be elected.

Sewanhaka

Sewanhaka school district voters passed the district's budget with a vote of 2462 yes votes to 1019. Voters approved a proposition to use capital reserves for a variety of improvements with a vote of 2625 yes votes to 836 no votes.

Floral Park’s annual Memorial Day parade and ceremony, conducted by the Floral Park American Legion with the support and cooperation of the Incorporated Village of Floral Park, will be held on Monday, May 25. On Memorial Day we remember and honor the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the supreme sacrifice to protect our nation and to preserve freedom and democracy Floral Park is honored to have Ex Chief of Department of the Floral Park Volunteer Fire Department and U.S. Army veteran Kenneth B. Fairben as the parade grand marshal and guest of honor. Chief Fairben graduated from the U.S. Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia and became a qualified paratrooper. He went on to serve as a Non - Commissioned Officer in the 5Th Battalion, 68th Armor Regiment in Mannheim Germany. Chief Fairben joined the Floral Park Volunteer Fire Department in 1970, serving with honor and distinction for over 5 decades. His Son Keith

Fairben was a Lieutenant in Floral Park Volunteer Fire Department serving in the Reliance Engine Company. Keith was an Emergency Medical Technician with New York–Presbyterian Hospital. On 911 as a first responder Keith gave his life while helping the injured in the North Tower. It is on Memorial Day that we remember all those that gave their lives in the service of our Nation. Chief Fairben has our heartfelt thanks for his and his family’s service and sacrifice to our Nation and our Community. The parade will assemble on Elizabeth Street and start at 10:00 a.m. During the parade, The Floral Park Volunteer Fire Department and the Floral Park American Legion will place wreaths, and sound taps at the Vietnam Memorial located adjacent to the Reliance Fire House on Jericho Turnpike.
