Weedout and Easter Bunny visit Centennial Gardens BY ANN GRIBBINS, FPCS VOLUNTEER
On a beautiful, warm Saturday April 4th morning the Centennial Gardens in Floral Park had two events that were attended by many visitors. The first weed out of 2026 attracted over twenty-five volunteers. Helpers from John lewis Childs school, Sewanhaka High School, Floral Park, New High Park and other surrounding villages came to help clear leaves from emerging flower beds, some received community service certificates for their help. People of all ages enjoy the monthly weed out. It occurs on the first Saturday of the month through November. The volunteers meet at
the main entrance at 9 a.m., weather permitting, to help and to enjoy the gardens. Many of the Floral Park Conservation Society members helped with the weed out as well. The Easter Bunny came for picture taking, an event enjoyed by many children and adults. Flowers are blooming and the birds are enjoying their treats. What more could anyone ask for. How did the tradition of the Easter Bunny begin? An ancient European pagan tradition believed that the bunny represented new life in the spring. Tradition says that eggs were not allowed to be eaten during lent and, with the idea of new life, they could be eaten on Easter. GerSee page 4
