Water district plans large scale main replacements The Hicksville Water District (HWD) recently started a large scale water main replacement project in parts of the District’s southeast portion. The water mains in this area’s distribution system date back to the 1950s, and the HWD is determined to get ahead of any potential problems the current system presents by engaging in this infrastructure overhaul. Over the course of the year-long project, the district has planned the replacement of approximately 14,000 feet of water mains, 25 fire hydrants and 320 water services from the District's water main to the curb shut-off valve. “The Hicksville Water District’s foremost responsibility is providing our residents with the highest-quality water possible,” said HWD Chairman Nicholas Brigandi. “By staying ahead of our infrastructure needs, we help ensure that we can avoid any potential problems in our distribution systems before they become larger issues. We promise our residents to minimize disturbances and make this process as easy on them and their families as possible.” See page 11

The Town Board of Oyster Bay recently honored Bethpage High School's valedictorian Suchitha Channapatna and salutatorian Ruchitha Channapatna for their accomplishments. The Town of Oyster Bay board recently honored Bethpage High School’s 2022 valedictorian Suchitha Channapatna and salutatorian Ruchitha Channapatna, fraternal twins who graduated with grade point averages of 110.9 and 110.5 respectively. Bethpage High School Principal Nick Jantz and School Superintendent David Schneider joined the Town to congratulate the two bright, young scholars.

“While some siblings find themselves competing with one another, these two sisters have been each other’s support system throughout their entire lives,” said Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino. “Suchitha and Ruchitha are a tremendous source of pride for their family, community and all of us in the Town of Oyster Bay. We wish them continued success as they go on to help build an even brighter future together.”

Suchitha and Ruchitha were integral members of the Bethpage High School Regal Eagles Robotics Team, and played the flute. Both twins will attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the fall; Suchitha plans on studying mechanical or aerospace engineering, and Ruchitha plans on studying biomedical engineering.
