At a recent monthly networking meeting of the Hicksville Chamber of Commerce, the new ownership of Broadway Commons mall presented information about the future redesign of the mall. The meeting, held at Buffalo Wild Wings inside Broadway Commons, provided chamber members an opportunity to ask questions about the redevelopment project. The central Long Island shopping destination, located on Routes 106/107 will be transformed and transitioned into a new, outdoor-centric mall called “The Shops on Broadway.” This announcement was made by Kenneth Schuckman of Schuckman Realty Inc., as the new marketing team and ownership group deemed the redesign of Broadway Commons “Long Island’s Most Exciting New Retail Development.” The Shops on Broadway spans 68 acres in “the heart of Hicksville” is touted as presenting a turning point for retail development across the New York metropolitan region. For the first time in over 60 years the former Macy’s space was not under a lease with a retail tenant; it’s back in the landlord’s possession. That could help clear the path to demolishing the building, after environmental impacts per SEQRA are vetted. Schuckman said the first project involves removal of a few other retail store spaces on either side of the Macy’s, in order to “open up the parking lot.” In late October the mall’s See page 7
