Bethpage students have research published

Town of OB pools to open June 27th Town of Oyster Bay community pools will open for the season beginning on Saturday, June 27th. The Town of Oyster Bay operates five pool facilities, including Bethpage Community Park, Marjorie Post Community Park, Plainview-Old Bethpage Community Park, Syosset-Woodbury Community Park, and Tappen Pool at Tappen Beach in Glenwood Landing. “The warm, sunny days of summer are nearly upon us and all residents are welcome to join us for a swim all summer long,” Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino said. “Town Pool memberships offer families and senior citizens access to many great

The team of Matthew Tusa and Aryaan Khalfan and the team of Ritvik Saha had their work

peer-reviewed by credentialed scientists and published in the SSRN (Earth Science Research Network) journal. Tusa and Khalfan, who are both graduating seniors at the high school, had worked on a project that translates American sign-language into the English language. The two students had diligently researched

the topic since they were freshman. “We had looked at past experiments where a specialized glove was used to simulate hand movements and we wanted to work on something a little bit broader to help explore different methods America sign-language could be transSee page 6

Town blood drive collects 68 units

The Town of Oyster recently partnered with the New York Blood Center to collect 68 pints of blood at a recent Collection Drive at the Town’s Hicksville Athletic Center. These donations can save up to 204 lives. “Blood donations are critical in helping to secure necessary blood transfusions for patients in hospitals. As blood supplies

remain extremely low and the New York Blood Center recently announced an Emergency Blood Shortage, it is so important to help those in need and host these Blood Drives as often as we can,” said Town Councilwoman Laura Maier. “Just one pint of blood can save up to three lives.
