Eighth graders take “A Walk in Their Shoes” Hicksville Middle School eighth graders recently completed an engaging and meaningful World War II project in social studies class titled “A Walk in Their Shoes.” Through this assignment, students were challenged to step into the lives of individuals who experienced World War II firsthand, thoughtfully recreating their perspectives through journal entries,
letters and other personal artifacts. The goal of the project was to deepen students’ understanding of the diverse human experiences during World War II by encouraging them to analyze history through a personal lens. Rather than focusing only on major events and dates, they explored how war shaped the daily lives, choices, emotions and perspectives of ordi-
nary people around the world. Each student selected one historical role: either a German citizen living through Hitler’s rise to power, a Japanese American forced into an internment camp, or a U.S. soldier preparing to fight in the D-Day invasion. Students then researched their figure’s background and experiences See page 6

With the opening of Town of Hempstead pools just a few weeks away, the Town of Hempstead is making a splash with the unveiling of new pool passes for residents in the Levittown Pool District. The new modernized system, which will began being distributed on May 26, will provide a more streamlined program for local families and ensure that only district residents are permitted to utilize these pristine facilities. “As a lifelong resident of Levittown with great memories of enjoying our local pools, it is very important to me that the Town of Hempstead continues to offer a wonderful and memorable experience to current and future generations of residents,” said Town Supervisor John Ferretti. “We wish all residents a safe and fun summer at Town pools and throughout America’s largest township.” The new wallet-sized card will incorporate a QR code, allowing Town parks personnel to more quickly and efficiently verify residents who are part of the Levittown Pool District, incorporating: Acorn Lane Pool, Azalea Road Pool, Bluegrass Lane Pool, Carman Avenue Pool, East Village Green Pool, Levittown Parkway Pool, Slate Lane Pool, West Village Green Pool, and Wolcott Road Pool. Each pass can include up to 10 people. Recent pool improvement projects include new spray pads, with multiple spray features, new fencing, new concrete driveways, and new coping stones at Bluegrass Lane and Wolcott Road Pools; and new murals painted on several different pool building walls. Residents can apply to receive their new pass in-person at Levittown Hall (201 Levittown Parkway, Hicksville) between the hours of 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. For more information, please call Levittown Hall at (516) 933-6400.
