Hometown Heroes banner applications open
Two Levittown teens killed in OCR crash
Two Levittown 19-year-olds were killed in a crash which occurred on Old Country Road on Friday, January 23. According to Nassau County Police detectives, a 23-year-old male was operating a 2026 White BMW, westbound on Old Country Road in the vicinity of Sterling Place at 11:30 p.m. when he lost control of his vehicle, crossed over
into on-coming traffic and struck a tree and then a building. Police say that Alexa Duryea and Lindsey Parke, both 19 yearold residents of Levittown, suffered severe trauma and were pronounced dead at scene. The driver of the vehicle was transported to a local area hospital for evaluation and treatment. The investigation is on-going.
Free concerts at libraries during Feb. Town Councilman Steve Labriola distributes banners with local scouting groups. The Town of Oyster Bay has announced that the town now accepting applications for the 2026 Hometown Heroes Community Recognition Program. This cherished initiative honors the service and sacrifice of the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces – both living and deceased – who are current or former residents of the Town of Oyster Bay. Town Councilman Steve Labriola stated, “This Hometown Heroes Banner
Recognition Program allows us to show our deep gratitude to the men and women who have put their lives on the line for our nation. Their courage and dedication deserve our utmost respect, and this initiative provides a lasting tribute to their service. We are proud to bring this important initiative back to our communities.” The program features banners bearing the honorees’ names, ranks, photographs, and areas of
service. These banners will be displayed at selected park facilities throughout the Town of Oyster Bay in the months leading up to Veterans Day in November. To participate, individuals or organizations may sponsor a banner for $75, covering the production cost. No profit is made from this program. The Town of Oyster Bay has announced that the Distinguished Artists Concert Series will continue with free performances at local libraries throughout the Town. “The Distinguished Artists Concert Series provides free musical and dance programs for the enjoyment of our residents,” said Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino. “I encourage residents to take advantage of these wonderful performances offered by the Town for free at local libraries.” Scheduled performances for February include: • Blueprint Blue on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library – A tribute to the music of Steely Dan.
