Hicksville High School’s Repertory Company recently lit up the Charles “Chuck” Arnold Theatre with three performances of “Play On!” by Rick Abbot on Nov. 21 and 22. This laugh-out-loud comedy follows a theater troupe struggling to stage a production despite constant meddling from an overbearing playwright who insists

on rewriting the script. Act I captures a chaotic early rehearsal, Act II showcases a wildly uneven dress rehearsal, and Act III presents the performance itself where everything that can go wrong inevitably does. The playwright’s unexpected decision to deliver a speech on modern theater during the curtain call sends the show into a frantic, comedic finale.

Abbey Lane School cuts ribbon on library renovations New bookshelves and comfy seating are now available to the students of Abbey Lane Elementary School in the Levittown School District as the community cut the ribbon on a newly renovated library on Nov. 21. Third graders gathered in front of the library, and students Easton Sewitch and Kate Bennett held the red ribbon while administrators used giant scissors to signal the grand opening. Inside, students were greeted by dozens of books teasing their next literary adventure. They were treated to a guided reading session by Deputy Superintendent Dr. Beth Zirogiannis, who read “The Littlest Yak.” Abbey Lane’s library will be the center of many instructional lessons that help boost students’ love of reading.

Inside the library, students discussed the importance of reading.
