Wisdom Lane – students collected dozens of nonperishable items, including baking ingredients and Thanksgiving essentials like stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce. Aiming to earn points for their grade, sixth, seventh and eighth graders contrib-

Rotary, Chamber light up the night in Hicksville Once again, Kennedy Park was the site of the Annual Holiday Tree Lighting on Saturday, December 6th. The event was sponsored by the Hicksville-Jericho Rotary Club and the Hicksville Chamber of Commerce, who together coordinated the decorating of the park and the evening’s program. The attendance surpassed previously year’s numbers! Although Kennedy Park is undergoing a renovation, it still sparkled with twenty-two trees decorated by community organizations, and the addition of several new decorations provided by The Hicksville Chamber of Commerce. A giant Santa seated on the locomotive offered greetings to passersby. Large lighted ball ornaments were hung from the tree in the memorial plaza. Once again glow sticks were handed out to attendees by the Hicksville Chamber adding to the sparkle of the night! The evening’s program began with a welcome by Dr. James Bentson of Hicksville Chiropractic Office and the Hicksville-Jericho Rotary Club, who introduce several local elected officials Nassau County Legislators Rosemarie Walker and Town of Oyster Bay Councilwoman Vicki Walsh. The program opened with a flag ceremony performed by the
Cub Scouts of Pack 381 from Holy Family Church. Holiday cheer was added to the evening by a medley of Christmas songs performed by the Hicksville High School Chamber Singers, glittering performances from Ella Marie Dance Studio and caroling from the Girl Scouts of the Hicksville Service Unit. As always, the highlight of the evening was the arrival of Santa on a fire truck from the Hicksville Fire Department. Santa with the help of the crowd counted down to the premier lighting of the large fir tree in the center of Kennedy Park. The Park will continue to shine See page 7
