IN THE SPIRIT OF MANDELA DAY On 17 June 2020 the President made an announcement about the adjustment of level 3 regulations to include opening of additional businesses in the hospitality and hair & beauty industries. Conference and meeting facilities will also reopen for business purposes. In addition, non-contact sports including tennis, golf, among others will also be allowed under strict health measures. This means that more people will be returning to work. We are encouraged to continue to follow prevention measures to in order to flatten the curve. As a SETA, let us condemn the killing and abuse of women and children. We need to stand together against gender-based violence to defeat this social ill from our society. An important event for July is the Mandela Day on 18 July, which represents a time when people celebrate the life of former President Nelson Mandela by doing small acts of kindness for those who are less fortunate. In this issue we continue to celebrate the W&RSETA’s youth, check out page 4 to see who we have profiled this week. We also included the restructuring process update and the COVID-19 educational campaign.

Mutual Respect as the foundation of our relationships. It is important to demonstrate respect for each other as colleagues as well as to our stakeholders. STAKEHOLDER RECOGNITION Well done to our colleague, Mike (Provincial Manager: Mpumalanga), who received a raving recognition from stakeholders during the virtual SSP stakeholder engagement on 24 June 2020. Sarah Koster, owner of Mica said: “I just want to say Mike, you are remarkable. Whenever we call on you as stakeholders here in Mpumalanga you are always available and helpful”. Thank you for flying the W&RSETA flag high, Mike!

CELEBRATING THE YOUTH OF THE W&RSETA
Maria Mahlangu Maria Mahlangu is one of the rising stars from the W&RSETA’s Bursary Scheme.
The rise and rise of Maria Mahlangu continues and she is surely one of the young talents to watch.
She joined the SETA in 2013 as an Intern after the SETA decided to offer internships to some of its beneficiaries from the scheme. On completion, the interns were absorbed and Maria was appointed as a Project Administrator. In her quiet demeanour, Maria proved to be an asset to the SETA. She worked hard to move up the ladder and in 2014, she moved up to the position of Regional Coordinator. Maria has acted as a Project Specialist in the Regions Support Unit for almost a year. The ambitious young lady set her eyes on the top when she applied for the Team Leader position in the SETA’s second biggest region, GPN, which she assumed in January this year. While climbing the W&RSETA corporate ladder, Maria has also focused on her studies which she has pursued through the SETA’s Employee Bursary Scheme. She has completed her BTech in Human Resources Management from TUT and Project Management from Lyceum College.
Be proud W&RSETA for this remarkable achievement in a young person’s life.

OD process Our SETA is going through a necessary process of restructuring which has been initiated to improve our service delivery to our stakeholders and to enhance the working environments for employees. The process is beneficial for employees as it will ensure that the people are placed in positions that are aligned to their skills and expertise. It provides opportunities for growth and career advancement.

Other important issues ADVERTISING OF POSITIONS • Requirements for positions are in line with the role accountabilities. The SETA will accommodate employees within the parameters and clear guidelines for this process. • All positions that have changed by more than 30% will be advertised for all to apply, including those who are currently performing similar work. No promotions will be implemented because advertised positions are regarded as new positions. • In instances where the SETA does not currently have a specific skill, the position will be advertised both internally and externally. • Positions will be advertised for 5 days in order to expedite the appointments to ensure that we continue with the work of the SETA and to reduce uncertainty among staff. • Where there are employees who have not been placed on any available positions, the SETA Management commits to ensure that all employees are placed in suitable roles that are aligned to their skills through a consultation process.

Please note the secondment of the following colleagues: • David Maake (Provincial Manager: North West) will be assisting the HR department with the restructuring process until 30 September 2020; and • Joyce Mpongoshe (Manager: Rural Development and Cooperatives) has been seconded to to assist the SME Support team.
COVID-19 EDUCATIONAL CAMPAIGN Safety in the workplace As some collegues continue to work from the office, it is imporamt to note the following safety measures that must be followed at all times in the workplace:

• Your temperature will be screened each morning before you enter the office. If your temperature is above 39 degrees, you will need to go back home • Wear a mask at all times • Keep the social distance of 1.5m • Stay home when you are sick and seek medical attention if you have COVID-19 symptoms • We love each other from a distance for now – no handshakes or hugs • No crowding in shared areas including kitchens and boardrooms Report any safety and health concerns in the office to the COVID-19 Task Team on covid19@wrseta.org.za
