Welcome message from the Editor Welcome to the first issue of the new look of Insider; our internal newsletter.

After almost a year of absence due to delays with the appointment of a service provider, we are excited to reintroduce the newsletter which replaces the bi-weekly Let’s Catch Up mailers. While we are excited about the Insider, let’s remember that time is no longer on our side with only three weeks remaining to financial year - end on 31 March. Let us continue to put more effort into finalising the outstanding work in order to improve our current performance of 14.29%. This month, we celebrate 20 years of skills development since the establishment of the SETAs in 2000. We will be celebrating our 20year journey next week Friday, 20 March 2020. In this issue we bring you highlights on the Black Business Summit which was held on 4-5 March 2020. WC champions empowerment of women to run their own businesses
Congratulations to the WC team under the leadership of Lieza for the successful completion of the third programme with The Clothing Bank (TCB). The non-profit organisation focuses on creating self-employment for vulnerable, usually single mothers through a very unique programme which includes learnerships. Our partnership with TCB dates back to 2013 with over 1000 women who have benefited from the programme. TCB is marking 10 years this year and they are currently graduating 274 women who have completed the programme which includes our Informal Small Business Practice learnership. Over 150 women have already graduated in Cape Town and East London two other groups will graduate in Durban and Johannesburg in the next two weeks.

The COO spoke on behalf of the W&RSETA and congratulated the courageous women for the great achievement as some of them have completed their first qualification. Martha told the graduates and guests that the SETA supported the programme as it emancipated women to be active participants of the economy, thus reducing the scourge of gender-based violence.

Leaders engage on inclusive economic growth for
black
business
Their Picture of Leadership
The BBC brings together social partners including government to engage on topical issues around the growth of black businesses. This year’s summit was particularly important as the country deals with an ailing economy that is worsened by several issues including the energy crisis. The high profile summit was attended by government ministers, leaders of political parties and top business people. As the summit partner, we were represented by the COO in the panel discussion that focused on skills for the future. The CEO delivered a message at the gala dinner. Other speakers included the newly appointed Eskom CEO, the CEO of McDonalds and Old Mutual Chairman and former Finance Minister, Trevor Manuel.

W&RSETA constituent business organisation, the Black Business Council (BBC), convened its annual Black Business Summit on 4-5 March in Johannesburg.
The summit provided massive media mileage for the W&RSETA and allowed us to position the SETA as the skills development authority in the W&R sector.

Celebration
in Free State
The Free State regional office was invited to the General Education and Training Certificates (GETC) awards and certification ceremony on 28 February 2020 at Reitz. The awards ceremony was organised by the Free State Community Education College to recognise best performing lecturers in various learning areas as well as to certify learners who completed studies in various courses. Frans Mokale (TVET Coordinator: FS) represented the W&RSETA and gave an overview of the SETAs. He also committed the SETA will continue to engage and strengthen relationships with stakeholders and also to encourage them to participate in our programmes. Northern Cape State of the Province Address Senior colleagues as special guests of the Northern Cape Premier Dr Zamani Saul at his State of the Province Address on 27 February 2020 in Kimberley. The NC regional office has been working closely with the Northern Cape regional office on various programmes which has led to the SETA being recognised by the Premier.
