INFORMATION VOTE APRIL 2 Every registered voter in our community will be asked a very important Proposition Question on April 2, 2019 that will impact the programs and services for Lisle District 202 students. The Question was not put on the ballot by the District, but if the Proposition is approved by a majority of those who cast ballots, it will have a direct effect on the educational services that our District provides to our students.
WHAT IS THE PROPOSITION QUESTION ON THE BALLOT? Shall the amount extended for educational purposes by Lisle Community Unit School District be reduced from $19,062,127.15 to $17,155,915.00 for the 2018 levy year, but in no event lower than the amount required to maintain an adequacy target of 110%?

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE APRIL 2 PROPOSITION

The Impact is PERMANENT The School District’s Educational Fund levy would be permanently reduced from the current level by $1.2 million to a new “base” level of $17,155,915. The following year and each year after, rather than returning to the pre-proposition level, the Educational Fund would remain at the new “base” level and can only increase by the Consumer Price Index thereafter if the Proposition passes. The anticipated impact will result in a REDUCTION IN STAFF The Illinois Evidence Based Funding Model sets minimum or “adequate” staffing levels a school needs to function. A $1.2 million reduction in the Education Fund will require the District to consider staff reductions to offset the decrease in revenue and more closely align with the minimums set by the Model. The anticipated impact will result in a REDUCTION IN CURRENT PROGRAMS & SERVICES and will INCREASE CLASS SIZES Reducing the number of educators will require the District to eliminate or reduce some of the current programs and services, and increase class sizes. The Board of Education is considering reducing courses such as Advanced Placement/Honors, World Languages, Band, Choir, Art, and Career/Technical Education. The Reductions align with the MINIMUMS set by the EVIDENCE BASED FUNDING MODEL The Illinois Evidence Based Funding Model was designed to set minimums or “adequate” levels of funding a school needs to function. Why is the Proposition on the April 2 ballot? One aspect of the new Illinois Evidence Based Funding for Student Success Act allows voters to place a binding proposition on the ballot of school districts with an “adequacy level” of more than 110% to decrease property taxes for Educational Purposes. The Question was not put on the ballot by the District, but if the Proposition is approved by a majority of those who cast ballots, it will have a direct effect on the educational services that our District provides to our students.
How will the Proposition impact my property tax bill? The Proposition will permanently reduce the School District’s budget by $1.2 million. If the Proposition passes, the impact on homeowners’ property tax bill would be a reduction of approximately $67 per $100,000 in home value.
