Lindsay Malanga is a New York City educator with more than twenty years of experience in public education. She currently serves as the Executive Director at the Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health and Science Charter School, where she leads initiatives aimed at enhancing academic performance and promoting student success in the South Bronx. She began her teaching journey in her home state of New Jersey as a HEAD START educator. In 2001, she moved to New York City to teach at a public school in Brooklyn that was undergoing state-mandated reform. This experience motivated her to pursue leadership roles and deepen her impact on school communities. She later earned a master’s degree in School Leadership from Harvard University in 2004. Her career has included a range of positions in the charter school space, such as teacher, Dean, School Director, and Superintendent. In 2011, she led the dramatic turnaround of a charter school in Harlem, helping it rise from the lowest performance rankings to one of the top schools in the city. She managed a team of 40 staff members and worked closely with a student body of 270 to support this transformation. She continued to advance into senior leadership roles across charter school networks in New York City. In 2021, she became the Executive Director of a charter school network serving nearly 1,000 students, including many with special needs. She was responsible for overseeing all instructional, operational, and staffing efforts and managing a $32 million budget. Lindsay was the first in her family to attend college. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from New York University and received the Founder’s Day Award in recognition of her academic achievement. Her educational journey has played a key role in shaping her leadership values.
