BOARD OF TRUSTEES RECRUITMENT PACKET

Thank you for your interest in serving on the Lincoln Township Public Library Board of Trustees Trustees play an important role in guiding the library's mission and ensuring it remains a vibrant, responsive, and sustainable resource for the residents of Lincoln Charter Township, Royalton Township, Baroda Township, the Village of Stevensville, and the Village of Baroda.

As two long-serving trustees conclude more than a decade of dedicated service and prepare to retire in Fall 2026 and Spring 2027, the Board is seeking community-minded individuals who are passionate about libraries, lifelong learning, and public service. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of a library that serves as a center for learning, connection, and community engagement. Welcome!

ABOUT THE LIBRARY

Serves approximately 23,500 residents. Class IV Michigan library.

More than 17,000 cardholders

Over 110,000 annual visits

More than 180,000 items circulated annually

More than 12,000 people attend programs/events annually

Offers books, digital resources, programming, technology access, passport services, Library of Things, and community spaces

Employs a dedicated staff of 21. .

Time Commitment

Board members are expected to:

Attend monthly board meetings

Review meeting materials in advance

Serve on at least one board committee

Attend occasional special meetings and library events

Stay informed about library services and community needs

Board service is unpaid and voluntary.

Board Committees

The Board operates through standing committees that support governance and ensure effective oversight between meetings. Each committee is responsible for reviewing issues within its assigned area—such as finance, facilities, operations, community relations, and strategic planning and bringing recommendations to the full Board. Committees also serve as liaisons with the Library Director to support informed decisionmaking and alignment with the library’s strategic goals.

Board Meeting Schedule

Regular meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the library.

Board Bylaws

The Library Board Bylaws establish the framework for how the Board of Trustees conducts its business and fulfills its responsibilities to the community. The bylaws outline the Board's purpose, membership, officer duties, meeting procedures, committee structure, and governance practices They help ensure transparency, consistency, and accountability in Board operations while supporting effective stewardship of the library's mission, resources, and services. Board members are encouraged to review the bylaws regularly and refer to them when carrying out their duties.

Lincoln Township Public Library Board of Directors Nominating Procedures

1. The Board Committee has prepared an application form for use in the Board Member Nomination process.

2. The application form will be available for all persons wishing to apply or make a nomination. The form is included on the next page or may be obtained on the Library’s website at www.lincolnlib.org or by contacting Director, Joelle Wake at jwake@lincolnlib.org

3. The Board Committee will review all applications submitted, schedule interviews as appropriate and prepare recommendations of Board candidates for approval by the full Board.

4. Prospective Board applicants will complete a tour of the agency and observe a board meeting in action, after which a vote on board membership will be taken.

5. All nominees will be informed of their status upon completion of the process. Note: It make take two months to complete the process outlined above.
