A Cathedral for All
Pentecost, the feast we celebrate this coming Sunday, is often described as the birthday of the Church, the moment when people from many nations and languages heard the good news in ways they could understand. In that remarkable event, diversity was not erased but embraced. The Holy Spirit drew people together not by making everyone the same, but by enabling difference to become a source of unity, understanding and shared purpose.
That vision continues to speak powerfully to us today. Here at the Cathedral, being inclusive is one of the seven values underpinning our 2030 Vision and Strategy. Inclusion is not simply a policy or aspiration; it is a reflection of the Gospel itself. The Church is called to be a place where every person is welcomed, valued and able to flourish, regardless of background, identity or circumstance.
Pentecost reminds us that God’s Spirit is active wherever barriers are broken down, and communities are strengthened through compassion, listening and mutual respect. In a world too often marked by division and exclusion, we are invited to build a community shaped by generosity, hospitality and hope: a cathedral for all people, rooted in faith and open to the world.
As we celebrate the feast of Pentecost this year, I invite all of us to reflect afresh on what it means for us to be truly inclusive. Pentecost calls us not only to welcome difference, but to recognise in one another the image of God and the gifts of the Spirit at work. Each of us has a part to play in building a community where all feel seen, heard and valued. May this feast of new beginnings renew in us a deeper commitment to listening well, acting generously and ensuring that this Cathedral continues to be a place of belonging, grace and hope for all.

Stillpoint
This is a time of guided silent prayer to be still and aware of the presence of God. We meet in the Longland Chantry from 9.15am to 9.45am on the following Mondays: 11 May, 1 June, 6 July, 7 September, 5 October, 2 November, 7 December
The Feast of Corpus Christi
The feast of Corpus Christi, which celebrates Christ’s institution of the Eucharist, falls on Thursday 4 June. All are welcome to join us at any of our services on that day, including: 5.30pm - Festal Evensong 7.30pm - Sung Eucharist, Procession and Benediction. This year we will process to St Paul in the Bail.
Choral Mattins
Choral Mattins is held once a month on a Sunday at 9.30am. The next Choral Mattins service will be on 7 June
Ecumenical Procession in Honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The Dean and Canon Eddy Jarosz, Parish Priest of St Hugh of Lincoln Roman Catholic Church, will lead a procession from Our Lady of Lincoln Church, Cabourne Avenue (LN2 2HE) to the Cathedral on Saturday 23 May. The procession will begin at 2pm. All welcome. Clergy and servers are invited to robe. Contact the Dean for further details.
Community
Cathedral Librarian
It is with great pleasure that we are able to announce the appointment of Dr Aya Van Renterghem as Cathedral Librarian. Aya comes to us from Queens’ College in Cambridge, where she is currently the Special Collections Librarian and prior to this Aya worked at John Rylands Library in Manchester.
Aya joins the Cathedral at an exciting time as she will oversee the reopening of the Wren and Medieval Libraries and will also play a key part in the development of LARC, the Lincoln Archives and Research Centre, as we seek to open up our historic treasures to wider audiences and become better known as a place for academic research.
We are especially grateful to the Lincoln Record Society, which has contributed to the funding of this post through the Nigel Burn bequest. We look forward to welcoming Aya as she starts her new role in July.

We are delighted to welcome Phoebe Maris to the Cathedral community as Special Collections Librarian in Exchequergate Arch. If you see Phoebe, do say hello and give her a warm welcome.
Cathedral Chat

Look Who’s Back!
After five years, we’re delighted to welcome back over 85% of our Library Volunteers as we continue preparations for reopening. It’s wonderful to have them back on the team!
A programme of training days is being planned, alongside the development of helpful new resources to support volunteers in their roles.

Lincoln Cathedral Community: Summer Visit - LCCC
Saturday 11 July
You are invited to join us on our annual Summer Visit, which this year is to Stow Minster.
We will meet at the Minster at 10.30am, where tea & coffee will be available, followed by a guided tour of this historic church, after which we will enjoy a BYO picnic lunch together. Finally, Dr Johanne Gregory, a local historian and one of our cathedral servers, will talk about the history of the area. We anticipate that the visit will end around 2.30pm, but there will also be an opportunity to visit St Edith’s at Coates.
This event is free to attend, and donations at the Minster would be appreciated. So that we can give our hosts at Stow Minster an idea of numbers, please email lccc@lincolncathedral.com or talk to Andrea Paterson after a Sunday morning Eucharist or on 07742 526860.

Minibus Driver Vacancy
We have an exciting opportunity for a mini-bus driver to join our team at the Song School. You’ll help transport junior members of the Cathedral Choir to and from the Cathedral and their school during the working week, and occasionally to drive the choir to concerts in the county. Viking lecture at Stow Minster
Saturday 13 June, 4pm
In the sublime setting of Stow Minster, Dr Johanne Porter will share her research and insights into our Viking history. Afterwards, enjoy refreshments, see the Viking graffiti, and speak with a guide about the history of this ancient church. There will also be updates on the progress made towards setting up a Friends of Stow Minster as an Action Group is launched. For parking on the day, look out for the signs and marshalls. Spring is Magic Family Crafts
Tuesday 26 to Friday 29 May
Connect with nature and set your imagination free with our Spring is Magic family crafts, where we’ll have a variety of activities on offer, including:
• Wildflower Seed Bombs – Make your own wildflower seed bombs to throw onto the wildflower meadow.
• Clay Nature Print Bowl – Craft a clay bowl using leaves, seeds and flowers collected from the garden.
• Make a Clay Woodland Creature – Design and make your own clay creature to take home.
• Spot the Squirrel Garden Trail! – See if you can spot 9 cheeky ‘Squirrels’ in the Dean’s Green.
All our crafts are included with your Cathedral admission and will be available from 10am to 12.30pm and 1pm to 3pm each day.
Botanical Bounty Exhibition
Monday 15 June to Sunday 21 June, 10am to 4pm
Lincolnshire Textiles is a longestablished group of textile and embroidery enthusiasts from across the county. ‘Botanical Bounty’ brings together a rich variety of work inspired by the natural world. Leaves, flowers, seeds and organic forms are explored through traditional embroidery, mixed media and experimental textile techniques. While some pieces draw on established traditions, others push materials and processes in new directions, demonstrating how textile practice continues to evolve.
On Sunday 21 June the exhibition will be open from 1pm to 3pm.
Concert
Saturday 20 June, 7.30pm
Join the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra for their summer concert, featuring the Classic FM Hall of Fame 2025 favourite, Piano Concerto No.2 – Sergei Rachmaninoff and Symphony No.3 –Camille Saint-Saëns.
This concert will be conducted by Aric Prentice and lead by Becky Taylor.
