A Musical Tour
It was an extraordinary privilege to be part of the chorister tour to Boulogne, Canterbury and Rochester from 10th to 12th June. The 3.30am start on Friday was soon forgotten as the excitement of the trip and the sugar rush from the contents of chorister rucksacks took over! Our first stop was Dover, where we caught the ferry to Calais and then it was a short coach journey to Boulogne-sur-Mer. The choristers were giving a concert in St Nicholas’ Church in the centre of town, but we were the guests of the Anglican Chaplaincy, whose priest is Teena Twelves (the mother of two former Lincoln choristers). Small world! After food and a rehearsal, the choristers delighted the French audience with their repertoire. If you get a chance, ask Mr Makinson about the organ he had to peddle!!
The next day we returned to the port and sailed back to Blighty and thence to Canterbury where we received a warm welcome. We met up with their boy choristers, were treated to a tour of the cathedral and then sang Evensong together. After burning off some excess energy at PGL in Ashford, a good night’s rest and a hearty breakfast, we headed to Rochester to join the cathedral for the Sung Eucharist on Sunday. After lunch in the castle grounds, we headed home to Lincoln.
We were all tired but satisfied with a job well done. The young people were such good ambassadors for our cathedral. It struck me that they really do embody our cathedral values. In their relationships with one another and with their responsible adults; in how they related to the people who hosted us; and their approach to what was asked of them, they are:

• Accountable
• Proactive to change.
I was very proud to say that they were Lincoln choristers!

Stillpoint
This is a time of guided silent prayer to be still and aware of the presence of God. We meet in the Longland Chantry from 9.15am to 9.45am on the following Mondays: 6 July, 7 September, 5 October, 2 November, 7 December
Anniversary Celebration
On Sunday 21 June, we will celebrate Aric Prentice’s 25th anniversary of music-making at the Cathedral.
The celebrations will include a special orchestral Evensong at 3.45pm, at which our wonderful Cathedral Choir will be joined by former members who have sung here over the past quartercentury. The service will include the world premiere performance of an anthem by Philip Moore, commissioned by the Cathedral to mark this occasion. We are very grateful to the two donors who have made this possible, and are delighted that Philip will be joining us for the service.

Threads - Exhibition and Lectures
From Friday 3 July to Monday 31 August, we’ll host Threads Through The Bible, an astonishing display of textile art inspired by parts of the Bible by talented Artist Jacqui Parkinson.
During its stay, our Chancellor Kevin Walton will be hosting two lectures which look deeper into the books of Genesis and Revelation. The first is on Saturday 4 July at 3pm, and will explore the order and beauty of Genesis 1, asking what it teaches about our precious world and ourselves as human beings.
The second will take place on Saturday 29 August at 3pm and explores what kind of writing Revelation really is, how its first readers might have understood it, and how we might make some sense of its vivid imagery, mysterious symbols, and coded language.

Volunteer Week
Volunteer Week 2026 was a wonderful celebration of the people who give so generously of their time, in sharing their passion, skills and enthusiasm to support the life and mission of Lincoln Cathedral. Over the week, more than 344 volunteers and staff attended various activities and events. The Wickham Room was witness to countless conversations, the sharing of ideas and experiences and the consumption of many a ‘sweet treat!’
Thank you to all those who gave talks, shared their expertise, and helped make the week such a success. We are equally grateful to all those who attended, participated and supported the programme. Together, you demonstrated the strength of our volunteer community and the vital contribution volunteers make to our Cathedral every day.

Book Group: The Universal Christ by Richard Rohr
Our next session will be held on Wednesday 8 July, from 4pm to 5pm, in the Wickham Room, and we will be discussing Chapters 5-7. Everyone is welcome to join (you don’t need to have been at the previous sessions to come along). Copies of the book can be purchased in the Cathedral Shop.
The
Friends of Lincoln Cathedral Talk Series
Tuesday 30 June 2026 5pm-7:30pm
The Friends invite you to join us in the Chapter House for a fascinating talk by Judi Jones, entitled “It Really Did Happen Here!... Historic Events and People in Lincoln Cathedral Chapter House.” It will be followed by a glass of wine or soft drinks, and nibbles.
Places are limited. Please email friends@lincolncathedral.com by Monday 22 June to reserve seats. The talk is free for our own members, Cathedral volunteers or Cathedral members. For other guests we suggest a donation of £10, which can be made on the night.
Future talks will be on Wednesday 22 July, at 5pm, by Cathedral archaeologist Jonathan Clark, and on Wednesday 21 October at 2pm, by Dr Richard Fisher, Honorary Research Fellow of the University of Bristol.
Cathedral Chat
Cathedral Chat is working its way to the final meeting on Thursday 2 July before it finishes for the summer. Until then you can continue to join Rowena, our Canon Missioner, at our welcoming table at the Cathedral Café on Thursdays from 3.30pm to 4.40pm.
LCCC Summer Visit
Saturday 11 July
Join our annual Summer Visit, which this year is to Stow Minster.
We will meet at the Minster at 10.30am, where tea & coffee will be available, followed by a guided tour of this historic church, after which we will enjoy a BYO picnic lunch together. Finally, Dr Johanne Gregory, a local historian and one of our cathedral servers, will talk about the history of the area. We anticipate that the visit will end around 2.30pm, but there will also be an opportunity to visit St Edith’s at Coates.

Lincoln Symphony Orchestra – Summer Concert

Join the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra for their summer concert, featuring the Classic FM Hall of Fame 2025 favourite, Piano Concerto No.2 – Sergei Rachmaninoff and Symphony No.3 –Camille Saint-Saëns.

Threads Through The Bible
Friday 3 July to Monday 31 August
Threads Through The Bible is an astonishing display of textile art inspired by parts of the Bible.
Textile artist Jacqui Parkinson retells the stories in a vibrant combination of silks, paint, metallic leathers and gold leaf.
The exhibition includes 26 huge panels retelling the creation story from the first pages of the Bible and re-imagining the strange visions in Revelation – the Bible’s last book.

Lincoln Jazz Festival

Breaking not Broken: Ableism, the Church, and the Risen Body
Saturday 18 July, 3pm
A lecture by the Revd Canon Timothy Goode. Tim Goode is a Residentiary Canon at York Minster, and author of Breaking not Broken: Ableism and the Church after Constantine (published by SCM Press). Tim’s lecture will explore how inherited and contemporary notions of perfection have distorted our theology and the ways in which we express and live out our faith.
