Given a rectangular infill site that cuts through New York’s Highline, our task was to create our own program that caters to local residents and minorities.
Nourish integrates natural farming into New York City’s dense urban environment, providing fresh produce while educating the community on urban farming possibilities.
Designed with a focus on local Asian and Hispanic minority groups, the building features a locally-owned vendor market underground, a public grocery and café at street level, and private upper floors for cooking and urban farming classrooms. On these upper levels, teared greenhouse gardens grow local fruits, vegetables, and spices.
Serving as a hub for cultural connection and healthy living, Nourish invites residents to embrace multicultural practices and sustainable lifestyles.

Following the project outline for LSU’s upcoming health and research annex, Remedy focuses on seamlessly integrating public and private spaces through thoughtful views, orientation, and form.
The split-form design divides research (left) and education (right), converging at the northern end to create a symbolic arrowhead pointing toward LSU’s main campus. This orientation not only strengthens the building’s connection to the university but also embraces the views of the northern landscape, offering a retreat from the busier S Quad Drive.
At the entrance, angled walls and fanned paneling create a smooth transition from public outdoor areas to private indoor spaces. This paneling extends around the building, including the exterior classroom, strategically blocking distractions from S Quad Drive while enhancing focus on the quieter northern surroundings. The design fosters an “openly-private” experience—integrating with LSU’s campus while maintaining a distinct sense of seclusion.

ModuLoo reimagines the public restroom as a lively and inclusive community space. Located in the heart of Shoreditch, London, the project respond’s the the area’s dense network of nearby schools by combining a public toilet facility with an interactive playground.
Inspired by the modular forms of simple building blocks, the design translates play into architecture, creating bold, interlocking volumes that invite exploration and engagement for both children and families. Multiple entry points and open circulation paths ensure accessibility and safety for all users.
Constructed from treated and stained wood, photovoltaic roof panels, and rubber surfacing, ModuLoo embraces sustainability and warmth. It stands as a small yet impactful civic gesture, offering everyday utility, moments of joy, and a renewed sense of community connection.

Situated at the southern end of New York’s High Line, The Life Terrace is a tiered, multi-use park designed to address the city’s shortage of green spaces by prioritizing efficiency, cohabitation, and biodiversity.
Accessible via two main entrances—a spiraling ramp and a stair-ramp combination—it accommodates diverse pedestrian needs. The lower tier features an outdoor sculpture garden, while the upper tier provides sweeping views of the river and New York’s Little Island. Between them, the middle platform fosters environmental biodiversity with a freshwater pond, a man-made bat cave beneath, and pollinator gardens.
These platforms establish a hierarchy where people gather on the lower tier, nature thrives in the middle, and both coexist harmoniously at the top—a central gathering space for residents, with bats finding refuge below. Designed to be both inviting and functional, The Life Terrace echoes the comfort and accessibility of the High Line, welcoming all visitors.

For this project, we worked in pairs to analyze a COTE Award-winning building, evaluating how it successfully applies the 10 principles of design excellence: integration, equitable communities, ecosystems, water, economy, energy, well-being, resources, change, and discovery. Additionally, we were tasked with constructing a 1/2” = 1’-0” scale section model of the building.
Our selected building, The Kendeda Building, was completed in 2019 on Georgia Tech’s campus and received the COTE Award in 2021. Designed to foster environmental education, research, and public engagement, it is the first project in the Southeast United States to achieve full Living Building Certification. It sets a new standard for sustainability, proving that Living Buildings are achievable even in challenging climates.
The section we chose to analyze highlights the structural components of the solar roof and steel-cabled columns, emphasizing their role in sustainable energy use, integration, and structural discovery.
