Cathy Cash is more than a professor to the students here at Limestone, she is a friend. Always willing to give advice, listen, or offer a friendly smile, Ms. Cash contributes to the warm, familial atmosphere that exists at Limestone. A graduate of Limestone, Ms. Cash returned to her alma mater to teach. And the students who have had the privilege to know her are certainly glad she did.

It is seldom that Ms. Cash is found unengaged in conversation. Whether with faculty, staff, students, or visitors, Ms. Cash's kind words are for everyone.

Ms. Cash spends her spare time, what little there is of it, in her greenhouse, with her three lovable cats, and caring for her mother. Ms. Cash is a credit to society, to Limestone, and to her profession.

al COOl enceOle t CBS This Morning newscaster Jane Robelot took time away from her busy schedule to speak at Limestone' s December graduation. Robelot is a native of South Carolina and was a local newscaster at WSPA in Spartanburg before going to New York. Robelot, daughter of Limestone Trustee Tom and Dorothy Robelot of Greenville, was presented with an Honorary Doctorate of Journalism. Ms. Robelot received the Honorarary Doctorate " in recognition of her outstanding achievements in broadcast journalism and for her success as a role model, especially for young women," Limestone President Dr. Walt Griffin said. As a New York-based correspondent for CBS, Robelot received an Emmy Award for her coverage of the Yitshak Rabin assassination. She also reported live from the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. Two hundred and fourteen students graduated on December 14, 1996, most of them from the Block Program. Twenty one were Day students. Seventeen students received Associate of Arts degrees in Business, and the remaining 204 recei ved Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degrees.

The Block Program The Block Program is a non-traditional way to teach a traditional curriculum and has been successful at Limestone since 1976. It is a change in style, but not in substance. It is rigorously and continuously evaluated, and studies show that the program works well for our adult students. The distinctive format allows students time for in-depth study, research, and improved concentration. The Block Program is offered at 16 different sites in South Carolina. The Block Program divides a calendar year into 11 blocks, each lasting four weeks. One threecredit-hour course is studied intensively and completed each block. This allows the student to complete up to 33 credit hours per year. A student can complete a degree in the normal time--4 years for a Bachelor's degree or 2 years for an Associate's degree. Students may choose to take all 11 blocks or any number based on their schedules, rather than an entire semester. C lasses are normally held early in the evening on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday for twelve class sessions. I

SINGING S AINTS

The Singing Saints Show Choir stays busy performing on campus a nd in area high schools. Auditions held each year are open to all maj ors, and members are awarded scholarships. The 1997 tour included performances in schools and churches in North Carolina, Washington, DC, and the Baltimore, Maryland area. Nonsinging participants this year included Jason Tucker, drummer; Scott Jeffery, bass guitar; and Donnie Brown, sound technician.

MAY 1997 GRADUATION Limestone's Spring Commencement Exercises were held at four o'clock on May 3, 1997, in Fullerton Auditorium. Twenty students received Associate of Arts degrees, 66 received Bachelor of Arts degrees, and 92 received Bachelor of Science degrees. Honorary Doctorates in Public Service were awarded to O. C. Blackwood and Ruth Moss Easterling. Dr. Joginder S. Sandhu was elevated to Professor Emeritus status.
