In dedicating this year's Calciid, we, the Senior Class, have chosen an educator who for twenty-five years has been the embodiment of excellence, both academically and professionally. To borrow from an earlier dedication, "you have guided us 'Toward Light: our ultimate standard of scholarship and behavior at Limestone College." With the same capable hands that so deftly and so accurately find the right key every time, you have touched the lives of many. In your quiet, unassuming, and yet demanding way, you have opened the eyes and ears of countless students to the sweet song that is life. Your energy is seemingly w ithout bounds. Not only do you lend your talents to school-sponsored activities, but your work with the Arts Council and the Gaffney Little Theatre exemplify your dedication to a culturally enlightened community. For these reasons, and for others too numerous to mention, we, the Class of 1987, humbly and gratefully dedicate this volume of the Calciid to you, Mary Hempleman Simpson.

G. Frederick Payne became Limestone College's 14th president on June 1, 1986, and brought with him a wealth of energy and enthusiasm. One of his more outstanding attributes is his ability to interact with everyone on campus and in the community. Through his people-oriented abilities, Limestone has profited. Limestone is a better place because of his leadership qualities and his positive attitudes. His goals are clear and simple: Help make Limestone reach for excellence in everything. He wants Limestone to be among the finest of academic institutions in the Southeast. With the addition of President Payne and his family at Limestone, we can see the progress being made and through his help, Limestone is " on the roll ."

SNOWFEST '87 On January 22, 1987, we were blessed with 10-12 inches of snow. Classes were cancelled for several days and Limestone students celebrated with snowball fights, snow cream, football, a bonfire, and parking lot skiing. For some, the excitement of seeing this much snow for the first time was celebration enough.

LIMESTONE COACHES Limestone's Board of Trustees voted to add baseball to its Athletic Department in 1987-88, making the number of offered sports for students to eight. The school took the directive of the Board to have the best possible team, helped its own cause, and h ired ex-Major League great and future Hall of Farner Gaylord Perry as its coach. Perry joins a group of dedicated individuals who are concerned not only with athletic abilities, but the overall development of the individual. Every coach is very optimistic, enthusiastic, energetic and motivated. Keep it up coaches: you're on the roll. Drennon welcomes Gaylord Perry and the new baseball program Limestone.
