Radiology has been my home at LMHS. At the start of my career, I was employed at both hospitals here in Lima. Fortunately, I chose to work here. The people I worked with then (and now) always made me feel welcomed and valued. I have always been determined and have achieved most of my personal goals throughout my career. Most everyone knows that IR / Specials is where they can find me. I have gone through some life-changing events, but once again, fortunately, my LMHS family was there for me and my family. I cannot express my gratitude enough. Working at LMHS has been one of the best choices I have made thus far in my life.

Recently, she returned to school for her phlebotomy certificate to expand her role in the ever-changing health care arena, all while working full time. Sandy is very dedicated and loyal to LMHS! Congratulations on your 25 years of service. Sandy started out on COU and worked her way to 5 South where she is valued by all her teammates. She is a ray of sunshine each and every day she works, making it impossible to have a bad day. I don’t think she knows what a bad day is. Busy? Yes, but not bad. The joy and laughter she shares with her team is what you will also hear with her patients and their families. Her sense of humor can brighten anyone’s mood on any mood and any day. She gives 100% to her patients and is always willing to go above and beyond with any task. Sandy helps orient our new PCTs to the unit, providing guidance on taking care of our patients as if they were your own family members. She also ensures all office supplies are ordered and well-stocked. Sandy never let her health issues get her down. She is a breast cancer survivor and never let that stop her from doing what she loves doing—caring for others. You never heard her complain while beating cancer. She did what she had to do. Lima Memorial means home to me. It is my home away from home. I grew up here as an adult, and I have learned so many things during this time. It means close friendships, laughter and tears, good times and bad times and professional and personal growth. It also means seeing mankind’s goodness, even while witnessing some difficult times. But the most meaningful thing has been and continues to be learning what it means to be human—all our flaws and imperfections, judgements of others, acts of kindness and love that come when we least expect it. Witnessing the joy of holding a little one’s hand and the tears that drop when someone draws their last breath are all unforgettable moments from my time at Lima Memorial.

Brenda has held many positions within Financial Services while she was getting her RN degree. She uses those skills every day to help win appeals with our RAC denials. Her most recent role was moving into a Supervisor position and managing our Chart Auditors and Insurance Medical Records Requests team. She has learned a lot in her new role and brings calm to an otherwise very stressful position. In the past 12 months, we have seen an increase with insurance companies trying to find ways to take their money back. Under Brenda’s direction, her team has truly risen to this challenge. What Does Lima Memorial Mean to You?
Lima Memorial has meant a lot to me throughout the 35 years I have worked here in Facilities, but now it has a different meaning to me. I have had some surgeries over the last year and have had the chance to meet with our doctors, nurses and techs. I have been able to see everyone in the medical field in their element, as they are hands on in my illness. It has been remarkable seeing our team in action and how they have been able to help me as a patient. I have worked third shift here for many years, and the associates that I have met and worked with are some of the best people I’ve come across. There has never been a job that could not be handled, whether it’s dealing with a fire or being out of power. All hands work together to get done what needs to be done. It has been incredible to witness all of the expansions and renovations over the years, as well as the how those changes have helped others in our community. It has made working here that more rewarding.

Mark Hunlock has worked in the Facilities Management department as a third-shift Building Operator for more than 35 years. In that time, Mark has established very good relationships with his co-workers and staff from other departments. He always has a positive attitude and uses a caring and professional approach in any and all circumstances. Whenever Mark is asked to do something, whether it’s in his job classification or not, he’s always willing to go the extra mile to ensure our patients and staff are kept comfortable and safe during the night. Mark’s primary responsibilities include performing preventive and routine maintenance on items such as emergency lighting, fire extinguishers and the tube system. He also makes routine lighting, plumbing and mechanical repairs as needed. He works alone on third shift, so along with his Building Operator duties he also oversees the fire alarm system, boiler and chiller operations and HVAC systems. Mark also conducts third-shift fire drills for the hospital. While being the sole person responsible for keeping the campus running smoothly throughout the night can put a lot of pressure on an individual, Mark exceedingly meets that challenge every night and without complaint. He’s a true professional and a pleasure to work with. Thank you, Mark, for all that you do, and congratulations on 35 years of service!

Diann continues to prove herself daily as one of our most valuable cardiac trained nurses in the facility. She has spent her time perfecting her skill and knowledge base, benefitting our cardiac units over the years in CCU, HVU and most recently in the Procedural Care Unit. Diann delivers patient-centered care, always being a true patient advocate with the ability to visualize her care through the eyes of the patient. She thrives on great patient satisfaction while ensuring that she helps produce care in a manner that yields only high quality outcomes. Diann has been such a great influence, always willing to share her knowledge and act as a great resource when questions arise and guiding our less-experienced nurses in the right direction. She can often add comic relief for her co-workers on a busy day, as they love to experience her signature “raising of the brow” moments. Most of all, Diann has maintained a high level of respect from all physicians, associates and colleagues for her thoroughness and great attention to detail as she delivers outstanding, individualized care to her patients. This is a true testament of Diann’s commitment and dedication to the LMHS vision to provide the best care possible to each and every patient. Yvonne “Bonnie” White has been dedicated to her jobs here at Lima Memorial for more than 35 years. Bonnie started as a housekeeper in the Environmental Services Department. She then moved to the Material Management Department where she was for the majority of her time at LMHS. Bonnie came back to work as a housekeeper in 2018. Bonnie has always been a quality, key figure in all the positions she has held in the last 35 years and is always willing to give a helping hand. She is a proud mother, daughter, aunt, sister, grandma and friend. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, going on vacations and just living her best life. She is a dedicated church member and enjoys going to church on Sundays. Bonnie also enjoys going to the YMCA weekly. Bonnie says over and over, “got to keep moving.” Congratulations, Bonnie!

PRE-ADMISSION TESTING What Does Lima Memorial Mean to You?
LMHS has meant many things to me throughout the years. As a new RN, awe and wonder were my first impressions. I was in awe regarding my new colleagues and how much they knew about everything, and I wondered if I would ever get to that level of skill and knowledge. Over time, I have absorbed, observed and grew from the knowledge provided by many doctors, respiratory therapists, radiology techs, pharmacists, RNs, LPNs, aides, housekeeping and central supply team members. All have mentored me. Each individual has shared and taught me nuggets of their years of experience and education. Through the years, health care has evolved from simple to very complex with the addition of things like robotic surgery, wound care and interdisciplinary care with multiple modalities. The community embraced this change and grew along the way. After working at Lima Memorial and caring for our community, I am still in awe and wonder. I am in awe that many of my co-workers are family and feel like family, and I always wonder if I am being a good role model and mentor to new staff just like everyone was for me.

Although it is impossible to list all of the incredible accomplishments throughout Deb’s 40 years with Lima Memorial, I would like to highlight just a few. Deb started out as a floor nurse and has worked in many areas of the hospital. Deb was one of the first chemotherapy trained nurses in our community, assisted with the setup of Lima Memorial’s first inpatient oncology unit, was a founding member of the Northwest Ohio Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society and one of Allen County’s Nurses of Hope from the American Cancer Society. Deb served for several years as the Oncology Nurse Educator, assisted with the setup of the Cancer Institute Oncology Program and started several cancer support groups, including the “I’m Special” group, which was founded over 25 years ago and still meets today. Deb has been a great support and strength for thousands of patients and families in our community, truly functioning as a Patient Navigator before the term came into use. Since 2010, we have been blessed to have Deb be a part of the Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) Department, where she continues to touch the lives of thousands of patients every day, educating them about their upcoming surgeries and allaying their fears. Deb’s commitment to patient advocacy, attention to detail and amazing memory has made her a vital asset to our department and our hospital. Deb, thank you for being a wonderful friend, mentor and inspiration to so many of our associates over these last 40 years.

Barb has been a dedicated associate of Lima Memorial for more than 40 years. She is an asset to the Emergency Center as Unit Secretary. Barb has a great love of her family and especially likes the time that she gets to spend with her granddaughter. She has represented the department as Safety and Caring Coach. She is also active in the ED Professional Practice Council, striving to make the department better for all. I can always rely on Barb to show up and get the job done. What Does Lima Memorial Mean to You?
It means I have been able to work in a professional and family atmosphere. I work in Surgery as a patient care tech, and I am blessed to work for LMHS. We have caring people taking care of each other and our community. Every person is a very important part of the team and valuable in the operation of our hospital. The medical field offers many learning opportunities. I have lifelong friendships, and I get to meet new people all the time. I like to greet people in the corridors or on the elevator with a friendly hello, “have a nice day” and a smile, which is difficult to see in these times with all our masks. I enjoy the work I do and my co-workers. This is a great accomplishment, and I am very happy to have achieved my 45-year milestone.

As we look back on Rhonda’s 45-year journey with Lima Memorial Health System, we feel very blessed to call her a member of our team. Throughout her years in Environmental Services and Surgical Services, she has shown hard work and reliability with a kind demeanor. These character traits continue to make her a valuable member of our team, shaping he into an amazing person. When asking her peers about their experiences with Rhonda, they lovingly refer to her as one of the “Golden Girls,” and “if you need to find her, just listen for her whistling a tune.” They note her positive attitude is contagious and an inspiration to those around her.
